He was originally cast as Jonas Wilkerson, overseer of the slaves at Tara, in Gone with the Wind (1939), but
died one month into filming. He was replaced by Victor Jory.
Performed in 16 Broadway productions from 1917-1934. Most notably he was
cast in the hit 1926 show, "Broadway" (as "Steve Crandall") that ran
for 603 performances at the Broadhurst Theatre.
