He was awarded the 1987 Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting for "Hunting Cockroaches" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
He was a playwright, screenwriter, and novelist who often wrote about the immigrant experience. He started out as a short-story writer.
In the early 1980s, he settled in New York when martial law was implemented in Poland. He did not return to Warsaw until communist rule was ended in 1989.
