Though there is nothing to laugh about or love about sexism in real life, it is a character trait that keeps rearing its head in a bunch of characters, both old and new. Sometimes it is a deliberate choice by the writers, other times it is not quite as clear.

Still, as terrible as it is there are instances we find ourselves drawn to, or even sympathetic towards these characters. After all, what is good television if not good escapism, right? 

For that reason, we have compiled a list of a few of those characters who, though would be the cause of a lot of complaints to Hr in real life, are quite likable onscreen even if they are a bit problematic.

I’m not necessarily a big fan of artsy, slow-moving and dreamy motion pictures; most of them, instead of being honest or justifying their dream-like tone, end up being quite pretentious and empty. Thankfully, that’s not the case of Ari Gold’s “The Song of Sway Lake”. Mixing up energetic performances with a melancholy setting and a captivating story, the film manages to win over the viewer by sheer force of charm and quirkiness. In her final film role, “The Song of Sway Lake,” the late Elizabeth Peña delivers withering looks — equal parts disgust and dismay — to a variety of characters, all of whom ably deserve her scorn. A clunky, lurching affair populated by barely sketched individuals who seem to be competing for a most-intolerable prize, Ari Gold’s drama concerns a young man who returns to his grandparents’ lake house in search of a rare treasure, for reasons as thinly defined as everything else in this saga. Shot years ago (Peña passed away in 2014), and released more than 15 months after its below-the-radar Los Angeles Film Festival premiere, it should have remained on whatever shelf it’s been occupying.

Donald J. Trump has been nominated for two Primetime Emmys. They were back-to-back bids in 2004 and 2005 for Outstanding Reality-Competition Programme for “The Apprentice.” He lost both times to the team behind “The Amazing Race.” While Trump won’t be winning an Emmy any time soon, Alec Baldwin could prevail again for his uncanny portrayal of the Potus in various “Saturday Night Live” sketches.

Baldwin is defending his title of Best Comedy Supporting Actor. Last year’s win marked his third Emmy. He previously took home Best Comedy Actor awards in 2008 and 2009, both for “30 Rock.” In all, he has reaped 19 Emmy nominations. While three trophies from that many bids may not seem like a great return, Baldwin is clearly popular with Emmy voters. He was the first actor to be nominated (and win) for specifically playing a President on SNL.

All the other “SNL” nominees have contended for playing various characters on the show.

The Orchard has debuted a new official trailer for an indie film titled The Song of Sway Lake, a funky musical fable of sorts about a boy who tries to steal a rare vinyl record from his own family's estate. Rory Culkin stars in this as Ollie, and the cast includes Robert Sheehan, Isabelle McNally, Mary Beth Peil, Elizabeth Peña, Jack Falahee, Brian Dennehy, and Anna Shields. This is actually, strangely enough, supposedly a musical featuring vocal performances by Brian Dennehy, John Grant, and The Staves. The Orchard has acquired U.S. rights to Ari Gold’s drama The Song of Sway Lake, starring Rory Culkin, Robert Sheehan and Mary Beth Peil.

The film, which Gold co-wrote with Elizabeth Bull, follows a young man, played by Culkin, who sets out to steal a valuable, long-lost jazz record from his grandmother’s lake house, only to have his plan derailed by his accomplice, played by Sheehan.

The distributor plans to release the film theatrically Sept. 21 and on VOD and Digital HD on Sept. 25.

The Orchard has picked up Us rights to The Song Of Sway Lake starring Rory Culkin, Robert Sheehan and Mary Beth Peil after commencing talks in Cannes.

The distributor, hot off the heels of its North American acquisition of Directors’ Fortnight opener Birds Of Passage, plans a September 21 theatrical release followed by VOD and digital launches on September 25.

Ari Gold directed from a screenplay he wrote with Elizabeth Bull about a young man whose plans to steal a long-lost jazz record from his grandmother’s lake house is derailed when his accomplice falls for the matriarch.

The Orchard announced Wednesday that it has acquired U.S. rights to director Ari Gold’s “The Song of Sway Lake.”

Rory Culkin, Robert Sheehan (“Geostorm”) and Mary Beth Peil (“Dawson’s Creek”) star in the film, which follows a young man (Culkin) who plots to steal a valuable, long-lost jazz record from his grandmother’s lake house. His plan is derailed when his accomplice (Sheehan) falls for the matriarch.

The Orchard plans a theatrical release on Sept. 21, with VOD and digital HD to follow four days later.

The Orchard has acquired U.S. rights to the jazz-inspired drama “The Song of Sway Lake,” starring Rory Culkin, Robert Sheehan, and Mary Beth Peil.

“Sway Lake” is directed by Ari Gold (“Adventures of Power”), who co-wrote the film with Elizabeth Bull. Culkin portrays a young man who plots to steal a valuable, long-lost jazz record from his grandmother’s lake house. His plan is derailed when his accomplice (Sheehan) falls for the matriarch.

The movie will be released in theaters on Sept. 21 and on VOD and digital HD on Sept. 25. Producers are Gold through his Grack Films company, Michael Bederman (“Spotlight”), Allison Rose Carter (“American Honey”), and Social Construct’s Zak Kilberg. The film was executive produced by Garrett P. Fennelly and Anne Bernstein.

Kew Media Group launched the film to the international market at the Cannes Film Festival. The film will be continuing to tour international festivals this summer.

Titles include coming-of-age romance The Song Of Sway Lake and thriller Habit.

London-based Kew Media Group has added eight titles to its international sales slate for Cannes.

They include Who We Are Now, a verité drama about a woman who is released from prison and tries to regain custody of her son. Julianne Nicholson stars alongside Zachary Quinto, Jess Weixler and Jason Biggs.

Also added is The Song Of Sway Lake, a coming-of-age romantic drama about a man searching for the truth behind an old hit record called ‘Sway Lake’. Ari Gold is directing, with Michael Bederman, Zak Kilberg and Allison Rose Carter producing.

When Amazon decided to kick its original programming into high gear, they first turned to comedies. Transparent is the elder statesmen of comedy shows on Amazon and really in all of streaming. It's set the tone for the streaming service to be truly invested in some good TV comedy. The other streaming services have since followed suit but Amazon is always a good choice for good comedy. Whether it be through one of their originals, or something completely out of leftfield, Jeff Bezos' boys know you need to laugh.
