Development continues on New Line Cinema's adaptation of Activision's 'old school' video game "Space Invaders", into a live-action feature film, written by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner:
"Space Invaders" (1978) was created by Tomohiro Nishikado, manufactured, sold by Taito, Japan...
...then licensed in the US by the Midway division of Bally as an arcade game.
The title is noted as the first 'fixed shooter' game, earning points by defeating waves of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser.
Home versions and variations of the game are estimated to have grossed over $13 billion in total revenue as of 2016, making it the highest-grossing video game of all time.
Producers of the new film are Weed Roads Pictures' Akiva Goldsman and Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, with Warner Bros./New Line Cinema distributing.

Ben Zazove & Evan Turner Tapped To Pen ‘Space Invaders’ Film For New Line Based On Taito Arcade Game
Exclusive: New Line has enlisted screenwriters Ben Zazove and Evan Turner to pen a Space Invaders movie, inspired by the classic Taito arcade game, Deadline has learned.
No word yet on specifics, as to the story they’re spinning here. Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman will produce alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, with Greg Lessans & Rachel Wizenberg overseeing for Weed Road, and Matt Schwartz overseeing for Safehouse Pictures.
One of history’s most iconic arcade games, and one of the pioneering titles in the shoot ’em up gaming genre, Space Invaders tasks players with defending Earth from an alien invasion, shooting down waves of invaders moving across the screen before they reach the ground. Space Invaders‘ commercial success has been described as the catalyst for the golden age of arcade gaming in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3, episode 4, "Through the Lens of Time."
The latest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," called "Through the Lens of Time," sees the discovery of an impossibly ancient temple located underneath a mountain. Although its age is mind-boggling, the technology embedded in the temple still works. In order to gain access through its nostril-like entryway, Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) has to insert her hand into a blood-extracting device. Ancient temples, ineffable technologies, and blood offerings all give "Through the Lens of Time" a Lovecraftian feeling.
Inside, the crew find a series of small glowing glass orbs that contain something they can't identify. One of the orbs ends up bursting open, sending shards of glass -- and a mysterious energy of some kind -- flying into the eyeballs of Ensign Gamble (Chris Myers). Ensign Gamble's eyeballs are destroyed, but something...

Ever since news broke that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude with a shortened fifth season, fans have been eager to know what’s next for the franchise. As it turns out, co-creator Akiva Goldsman and co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers already have a new series in mind that would pick up right where Strange New Worlds leaves off. The potential project, dubbed Star Trek: Year One, would take place during the first year of Captain James T. Kirk’s five-year mission.
Goldsman has previously told TrekMovie that the finale of Strange New Worlds will show Kirk’s first day in command of the Enterprise, but he feels that there’s some wiggle room between that moment and Where No Man Has Gone Before, the first episode of The Original Series to feature Kirk. “Strange New Worlds ends on Jim Kirk’s first day of work as captain of the Enterprise,...

YA dystopian movie adaptations were a major trend during the 2010s. It all started with The Hunger Games movies in 2012, which, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, have made $3.3 billion at the box office and lived on even after the trend has died, with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes becoming a hit in 2023 and a sequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, set for 2026.
Other examples that found success include the three Maze Runner movies, based on the books by James Dashner, which made $949 million at the box office, and the three Divergent movies, based on the books by Veronica Roth, which, despite being panned by critics, made $765 million at the box office.
Other examples include I Am Number Four (2011), Ender's Game, The Host, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (all 2013), The Giver (2014), and The Darkest Minds (2018). Steven Spielberg even got in on the trend with Ready Player One (2018). However,...

Ken Foree plays an unforgettable role in one of the great movies ever made, the George A. Romero classic Dawn of the Dead (get it Here) – so it’s nice to hear (as reported by our friends at Bloody Disgusting) that the makers of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds decided to pay tribute to Foree in their recent, unexpected zombie episode! In the third episode of Strange New Worlds‘ third season, the crew of the starship Enterprise ventured to a planet that was overrun by zombie-like creatures – and this planet was called Kenfori! The Ken Foree reference even made it into the title of the episode: Shuttle to Kenfori.
Word of the tribute quickly made its way to Ken Foree himself, who posted on social media, “I know this is out there, but I wanted to share this with you as well. It’s an honor and...

Speaking to Variety, costume designer Bernadette Croft discussed the work that went into bringing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' recent murder mystery episode, "A Space Adventure Hour." During San Diego Comic-Con, Strange New World showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers talked to Entertainment Weekly about its boldest genre mashup yet and how long the process of puppet-ifying their show took.

Among Keanu Reeves’ most iconic characters is John Constantine. Constantine came out at a time when the superhero genre thrived in gritty and grounded storytelling, and John was the epitome of it, so now that the genre is at its peak, the announcement of Constantine II came as a delightful surprise for fans. Not only Reeves but also director Francis Lawrence and writer Akiva Goldsman are also attached to return. However, there is another writer who is aching to write a Constantine story—The Batman II scribe Mattson Tomlin.

Spoilers for episode 4 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 4, titled "A Space Adventure Hour," episode follow.
The newest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" — "A Space Adventure Hour," written by Dana Horgan & Kathryn Lyn — features the show going back to the past. Except, it's not a time travel episode. To test a prototype holodeck, LA'an (Christina Chong) crafts a murder mystery story set in mid-20th century Hollywood where she's the detective, Amelia Moon. And the suspects are the cast and crew of a space adventure series, "The Last Frontier," that's about to be canceled.
The episode has enough metatext to fill the whole Enterprise, because "The Last Frontier" is a clear stand-in for "Star Trek: The Original Series." However, the writers weren't just thinking about "Tos" when it came to "A Space Adventure Hour."

The conceit — thanks to replicator technology, holograms, and the suspension of disbelief — has given us a pipe-smoking Data playing Sherlock Holmes, Capt. Janeway starting a morally complex relationship with an Irish barman, and the creation of Vic Fontaine and his nightclub on Deep Space Nine.
Starfleet is in the early stages of developing the holodeck in the time of “Strange New Worlds,” and Season 3’s “A Space Adventure Hour” has the USS Enterprise beta testing the technology. The episode follows holodeck episode tradition, and in it, we see the cast take on new characters, new costumes, and more than a few wigs.
Anson Mount’s Capt. Pike tasks Christina Chong’s La’an to run the nascent program through the wringer to see how it holds up.

Mattson Tomlin, popularly known for his work on The Batman Part II, and the Game of Thrones spinoff series Aegon’s Conquest, is currently eyeing the dark, moody character of John Constantine. Yep, with an unflinching love for comic book adaptations and bold storytelling, Tomlin is hoping to work on Constantine 2.
The DC character was previously played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 action flick Constantine. Since then, the character has become a cult classic over the years. After all, who can get over Reeves’ chain-smoking, trenchcoat-wearing exorcist, who’s winning hearts for his cynical charm and apocalyptic adventures?
Therefore, after director Francis Lawrence blended biblical horror with noir vibes, and delivered a film that managed to earn a loyal fanbase—people have been begging for a sequel to this 2005 movie. So far, even Mattson Tomlin has expressed interest in the character. Now, let’s see if there’s any update waiting for us on this matter.

Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells have also been tapped to star, playing the two leads. Broadway duo Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells have been tapped to lead a new comedy series at Hulu, Deadline reports. Loosely based on the 1992 film Stay Tuned starring John Ritter, the series follows the pair as they become stuck behind a TV screen and are "forced to navigate their way through TV’s most binge-worthy obsessions." In addition to starring, Gad and Rannells will also serve as executive producers for the series, which has been created by Akiva Goldsman, Jordan Cahan (also showrunner), and Greg Lessans. The original movie starred Ritter and Pam Dawber, a married couple who found themselves stuck in a television for 24 hours. We can be friends if you remember Peter Hyams’ 1992 dark comedy Stay Tuned. The high-concept comedy starring John Ritter and Pam Dawber is a beloved cult classic about a husband and wife who are sucked into a hellish television set and must survive the gauntlet of twisted versions of shows in which they find themselves. Stay Tuned is a bizarre bit of fun from the early ’90s, and now Josh Gad is bringing it back! That’s right, folks! Get your remote controls ready, because Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells will star in a comedy series inspired by Hyams’ sadistic and satirical film, Stay Tuned, for Hulu.
According to Deadline, Stay Tuned is created by Akiva Goldsman, Jordan Cahan, and Greg Lessans, with Cahan set as showrunner. In addition to their starring roles, Gad and Rannells will executive produce alongside Goldsman and Lessans through Weed Road Productions, Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson & David Robinson,...

We now know that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' five-year mission is coming to an end in its upcoming fifth and final season. However, if the show's creators have their way, that won't be the last time we see the USS Enterprise and her crew. However, a spin-off is conditional on a discussion with Paramount's new owners, the conglomerate Skydance. The show's cast and crew discussed the situation with Collider's Steve Weintraub at San Diego Comic Con.
Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman revealed that a spin-off focusing on James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) taking command of the Enterprise has been discussed:
"We are really actually, in fairness, agitating to do a spin-off. You know, we would really like to go right into a show that takes place between Kirk’s first day on the job and when we get to The Original Series, which is where no man has gone before.

The Long Walk is the next Stephen Kingadaptation that's set for release. The dystopian horror film will land in theaters on September 12, 2025, and fans of the author will finally get the chance to see the story on the big screen after a lengthy period in development. Judging from the first look, The Long Walk is a faithful adaptation of the terrifying novel, which is something that doesn't always happen when King's work is brought to life. Director Francis Lawrence faced numerous challenges when he accepted the gig — not least the idea of subjecting his vision to King's approval.
Lawrence, also famous for his work in The Hunger Games franchise, spoke to Den of Geek about working on yet another dystopian teen-oriented adaptation of a famous book. "It's kind of impossible not to think of The Long Walk when you're working on something like The Hunger Games," the director admitted, but fortunately,...

Earlier this year, Star Trek fans got the disappointing news that Strange New Worlds would be ending after a truncated fifth season. The news was almost worse, but for the creative team behind the show, a promise made was a debt unpaid, and they worked to bring the series to a satisfying conclusion. They discussed the show's final season with Collider's Steve Weintraub at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con.
Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman explained how the six-episode fifth season — which is four episodes shorter than a standard Paramount+ Star Trek season — was a compromise with the network. "The original messaging from the studio as we were done, they wanted us to be done after 4." He went on to add:
"We had made a commitment to the fan base, and to the narrative, that we would get right up against Tos [The Original Series], like we’d about it, because there are a lot...

On Strange New Worlds, Wesley’s Kirk isn’t yet the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise (that seat belongs to Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike).

Fandom has always been an important aspect of Trek — the original show famously became a cultural force long after it went off the air after being canceled — and the showrunners made a point to give a nod to the fans.

The ensuing banter with the cast led to a Trekkie’s delight, a screening of the fourth episode of Strange New Worlds current third season, which doesn’t hit Paramount+ until next week. And...

Captain Pike has been turned into a puppet in the new teaser for the fourth season of “Star Trek: Strange New World,” which was shared with fans at San Diego Comic Con Saturday.

“Did you go to season four without me?” he adds.

Months after Practical Magic debuted on HBO Max, where it instantly became a favorite among subscribers, the 1998 fantasy pic has found another streaming home. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gilly Owens, it was released on October 16, 1998, and later landed on HBO Max on October 1, 2024, where it climbed to the #5 spot the following day. Even so, the film was not much of a success either critically or commercially, considering its worldwide earnings of $68.3 million against a $75 million budget and its rotten 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite flopping, the romantic drama has already received the sequel treatment, scheduled to premiere on September 18, 2026. As fans gear up for its arrival, Hulu plans to add the original to its platform starting August 1. The magical film will join numerous other classics also debuting on the same day, including 10 Things I Hate About You and another Bullock-starrer, 28 Days.

Una Chin-Riley may be Number One in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but in real life, actor Rebecca Romijn has a playful rivalry going with another Star Trek first officer. Romijn is revealing the one hilarious thing that her husband, Jerry O'Connell, won't let her forget.
Per ScreenRant, Romijn has some long-standing banter with O'Connell, who voiced the character of Commander Jack Ransom in Star Trek: Lower Decks. According to Romijn, there's one big difference between their characters that O'Connell enjoys reminding her of.
At the end of the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Ransom is promoted to captain of the USS Cerritos. This means that O'Connell's character outranks Romijn's character.“When Jerry thinks that he can outrank me, he never lets me forget it,” joked Romijn. “Let me tell you, he reminds me all the time that he outranks me.”

Rebecca Romijn mentioned that of all the storylines that are in Strange New Worlds season 3, she is excited for her character Una’s romance. Romijn plays Number One a.k.a. Una in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which had its season 3 premiere last week, two years after a cliffhanger ending at the end of season 2.
Strange New Worlds has been teasing a lot more time in the captain’s chair for Una in the upcoming episodes, and the actress has also been hinting at the same. However, when asked if there is anything more in store for Una in the upcoming seasons, Romijn said that a romance will be explored in the show (via Trek Movie).
We will see evidence of a romance for Una in season 3. And that was actually one of my most fun things to shoot this season.

Akiva Goldsman mentioned that the shortened six-episode final season of Strange New Worlds was actually a blessing, as previous Star Trek shows like Discovery did not get that luxury. Created by Goldsman, Strange New Worlds is currently on its third season, and the prequel series has to connect to Tos by the end of the show, handing over the Enterprise’s captaincy to James Kirk.
Goldsman mentioned that while Discovery had five seasons, too, it did not get an extension to tie up storylines properly. However, the Strange New Worlds team did not want a repeat of that, and hence, they worked with the studio to come to a decision that worked well for all (via Trek Movie).
Unfortunately, Discovery’s loss was our gain. So they basically said, ‘Look, we think we’re done after four seasons.’ And we said, ‘Hey, what about our whole ‘Let’s get the fans to the Tos era,...

Whenever Batman movies are discussed, 1995's "Batman Forever" often gets overlooked. For whatever reason, we don't like to talk too much about this star-studded blockbuster that made $336 million ($70 million more than the previous installment), contained groundbreaking CGI in the form of the first-ever digital stunt double, and successfully kept the Batman franchise afloat after Tim Burton's "weird experiment," "Batman Returns," went a little too dark for mainstream audiences. But we should.
I remember when "Batman Forever" debuted, and it was a big deal. The movie featured a new Batman/Bruce Wayne in the form of Val Kilmer, which, for anyone who'd grown up with Michael Keaton as their Batman, was a major change. Kilmer's Dark Knight arrived with an array of updated Bat-gadgets, too, including an undeniably cool Batmobile with an H.R. Geiger-influenced design. Tim Burton, who'd directed the first two films in the saga, was replaced with Joel Schumacher,...

As Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres its third season this week, it has become increasingly clear that the franchise needs someone like J.J. Abrams to lead it and mould it in his vision. The franchise has been led by multiple producers and showrunners from the beginning, but it finally needs some consistency in quality.
Paramount needs to hire a head for the franchise, as they have with Taylor Sheridan’s batch of shows. Beginning with Yellowstone, Sheridan has tapped into a demographic that other streamers have yet to dominate, and all the shows coming under his brand have been carefully curated by him, keeping most of them consistent in quality.

Taylor Sheridan began his tenure with Paramount with the neo-Western series Yellowstone. The show was a runaway hit, with the Succession-in-the-West type storyline resonating with viewers.

It’s Midnight Margarita time because Nicole Kidman is already casting spells from the set of Practical Magic 2. The Academy Award-winner has officially reunited with her Practical Magic (1998) costar Sandra Bullock — who is an Oscar winner in her own right — as production begins on the 2026 sequel. Kidman took to social media and shared a first-look video (below) of the two Hollywood A-listers hugging it out in the never-before-seen footage from the film. Kidman wrote via her Instagram post (below):
"The witches are back ✨ Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic"
Kidman reprises her role as the enchanting Gillian Owens, who is the sister of Bullock’s character, Sally Owens. Both actresses were reported to be in talks to return for the magical sequel over a year ago in the summer of 2024, and it was Kidman who revealed that "Sandy will be in it" only days after the news started...
