On Wednesday, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Csse) shared some details on its ever-expanding reach and upcoming original programming at the Iab Newfronts in New York. A month after launching a new advertising sales division known as Crackle Connex, Csse reports having an audience of over 80 million monthly active users, up 100% year-over-year.

“Trading Spaces” returned to TLC and brought the network’s largest Saturday night audience in eight years.

The premiere episode of the home design show was the most-watched show on TV across the entire night, with 2.8 million total viewers, besting the season premiere of the CBS drama “Ransom” and the HBO’s “Paterno” biopic starring Al Pacino.

The episode was preceded by an hourlong reunion special, which also won its timeslot with 2.5 million total viewers. Together, the two shows earned the Discovery-owned network its most-watched Saturday night block in since 2010.

Genevieve Gorder, beloved for both her innovative design as well as her quirky personality (and habit of working barefoot), became a hero to families across America as she redesigned their homes with TLC's Trading Spaces in the early 2000s. Fans couldn't have been happier when it was announced that Gorder would be returning to the series in 2018 after its 10-year hiatus, but a lot has changed for the designer since she's been on the show.

Any Trading Spaces aficionado will tell you the hit TLC show, which aired from 2000 to 2008, was just as much about the rotating cast of designers’ big personalities as it was about redecorating on a budget.

On Wednesday, TLC announced the lineup for the show’s forthcoming reboot after a 10-year hiatus, and almost every fan favorite from the original series is making a return. Joining host Paige Davis, who signed on in July, will be Doug Wilson, Genevieve Gorder, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Vern Yip, Frank Bielic, and Laurie Smith. Beloved carpenters Ty Pennington and Carter Oosterhouse will also be back.

When Atlanta-based interior design guru and Trading Spaces alum Vern Yip visits New York City, he stays at this tiny pied-a-terre high above Manhattan.

The final episode of season seven of Hgtv's Next Design Star picks up right where we left off last week; the final two designers, Danielle and Britany leave the judges table and return to the Designer's Lounge where they find mentor David Bromstad.

David's there to give them their final challenge: They will each create a fully-produced five minute pilot presentation of their own design show. They'll each work with a real family whose home both has two adjoining rooms that need their design help. They'll have three days to complete the design and pilot show, they'll have a full TV crew to work with, and a "fantastic design team." That's right, you've guessed it, each "fantastic design team" will be made up of their former competitors.

Two very capable, very personable, very talented ladies were left standing in the latest season of Hgtv's "Design Star." Danielle! Ultimately, Danielle's "Shop This Room" impressed the judges enough to order a new series, starting in August.

Her pilot showed her putting together a creative, inspiring space for a young artistic family. Her perky attitude was evident and a pleasure to watch. As Genevieve said in her criticism, "You just seemed like this effortless communicator. You brought the viewer into your design."

Brittany's "Picture Perfect Spaces" brought together a funky, personalized living room and dining room for her clients, complete with very sweet photos of their little boy. Genevieve loved her confidence, and Vern loved the fact that she...

We’re down to the final three, and this week, Britany, Hilari and Danielle meet up with mentor David Bromstad in a field, where’s he’s surrounded by yurts. David explains that in keeping with the Hgtv Design Star tradition of decorating untraditional spaces, (glass homes and tiny houses), the final three will design for a yurt. David explains that yurts are portable structure with round walls built on a wood lattice frame. They are originally from Asia and have been used for centuries.

The challenge is to turn their yurts into fantasy bedroom suites. They’ll have two days to complete the challenge, and they’ll have the help of some of Hgtv and Diy’s best known carpenters. Danielle is assigned Chip Wade, who I know from Curb Appeal the Block, but who apparently has his own show, Elbow Room. Britany will work with the “star carpenter” of Design on a Dime,...

The final four designers visit The Talk

Episode seven brings us to Marina Del Rey, where the final four designers, Mikel, Hilari, Danielle and Britany meet up with mentor David Bromstad and learn that for their next challenge, they’ll each bring their unique design point of view to a living/dining room space in a brand new condo. As an added twist, David explains that they’ll also be selecting a color to incorporate into their spaces in a meaningful way. They each reach into a paint bucket and select a color. Mikel picks green, Danielle selects blue, Britany draws yellow, and Hilari is left with red. After the judges’ negative reaction to her red-countered kitchen from last week, Hilari’s not too pleased to be working with red again. They have two days to complete the challenge and they will have assistance with painting and carpentry.

It’s the kitchen episode! Our six remaining designers meet up with mentor David Bromstad at a photo studio, where he introduces Hgtv Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Sara Peterson, who announces that the winning kitchen will be featured in an upcoming issue of Hgtv Magazine.

Sara tells them to be adventurous with color, because a colorful kitchen looks fantastic in photos. She further explains that “we want to be wowed by your styling tricks because finishing touches can make all the difference.” Stanley interviews that this is a sweet challenge because he’ll be able to put his artistic abilities to work. Episode four of Hgtv’s Next Design Star kicked off with the designers assembling for breakfast, where they realize their number is down to just eight, and then they head directly to a quaint suburban neighborhood where they meet up with mentor David Bromstad. David explains that this week it’s an indoor/outdoor challenge and they’ll be split into two teams to work on two adjacent homes. The homes have identical floor plans (open living/dining room), and the backyard of each home features a pool surrounded by lots of concrete. Each team will have the assistance of a handyman.

Using what was, I’m sure, a method of completely random selection, the producers have pre-assigned the teams. Kris and Miera, who got along so splendidly in last week’s challenge are with Danielle and Rachel in the Nitzkin home, while across the street are Hilari and Stanley along with Britany and Mikel,...

After the first two episodes of Hgtv’s Next Design Star, a few of my buddies were chatting about the show and thought it would be fun to have more people involved, so I e-mailed Dennis Ayers and asked if AfterElton would consider doing short recaps. He said "sure, why don't you do it?" Be careful what you ask for folks.

Dennis said I should assume that most people reading this have watched the show, and to stick with the highlights, which is what I hope to do. If you’re wondering which contestants are on team gay, I don’t know. In the first episode, both Luca and Stanley informed us that they have a wife or girlfriend at home. The other three male contestants, Kris, Mikel and Jordan (who was eliminated last week) didn’t discuss their personal lives in their introductory segments.

Team Gay's Karl Sponholtz is so close to being the next Hgtv Design Star he can smell it – and he got a good whiff of first season winner David Bromstad along the way, too.

"David smells amazing," Sponholtz said about the reality competition show's official mentor. "He loves to hug, and he smells really good when he's doing it."

Sponholtz, a Chicago-based designer for an architecture firm and freelance interior designer, didn't expect to find himself in the final two. Nonetheless, tonight he'll square off against fellow Chicagoan Meg Caswell for the Season Six crown in front of judges Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, and design queen Candice Olson.

Hgtv Design Star took a road trip to the Jersey Shore this week, but I’m pleased to report no hot tubs were befouled as the nine remaining contestants joined forces to renovate four bedrooms at a violently outdated bed and breakfast. In fact, the only part of the telecast that left me deeply disconcerted — aside from the ’80s leather sectional sofa in Meg, Mark, and Karl’s “before” room — was the presence of guest judge Kathy Ireland, who debuted a brand new language known as Cuecardanese.

Seriously, I can’t be the only one who got the bad chills...
