Vincent J. Roth has announced he’s returning as Surge in the third of his Surge Of Power movies. For those unaware, these things are highly campy low-budget superhero capers starring Roth’s character, which he claims is the first out gay superhero (we’ll take his word)…plus a variety of veteran actors with cult fanbases. The lineup for Surge Of Power: When There’s Smoke includes Nichelle Nichols (“Star Trek: The Original Series”) in one of her final performances, Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager”), Joseph Culp (“Fantastic Four”), Shannon Farnon (“Super Friends”), Michael Gray(“Shazam!”) and Bruce Vilanch (“Hollywood Squares”), all of whim were in the previous films. They’ll be joined this time by Tim Russ (“Star Trek: Voyager”), Sam J. Jones (“Flash Gordon”) and John Davey (Shazam!). Roth’s latest premiered at the Tarzana International Film Festival in August 2024, and he’s planning a three-city screening tour next.

Most sequels have a tough enough job just living up to their first movie, and this one would have had a big enough job just being a sequel to the original Shazam! What director David F. Sandberg’s first movie had was the novelty of the story of a boy having the power to just speak a magic word and finding himself in his now adult “ultimate form”, plus the power of being nearly Superman’s equal (some would argue even more), a fun novelty super hero movie. The story also had the subplot of young Billy Batson’s quest to find his mother after having been in foster homes his whole life, only to realize that the foster home he is in has provided him with the family he really needed by the end of the movie. In the end, he creates the Shazam family,...

In April 2019, DC and Warner Bros. gave us the quippy and jokey "Shazam!" Directed by David F. Sandberg and produced by Peter Safran — who together with James Gunn now helms the newly-christened DC Studios — the film was somewhat of an outlier among the darker films of the Snyderverse. Zack Snyder had established the main continuity of the (now defunct) DC Extended Universe with blockbuster entries such as "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
But "Shazam!" was a more lighthearted, less ambitious project, focused on a hero with much less cultural caché than DC's biggest characters. And it proved to be a hit. With a global box office take of $363 million and widespread positive reviews, "Shazam!" proved DC and Warner Bros. could do family-friendly films and be successful.
But just a month before it, Marvel Studios had churned out its latest in the form of the Brie Larson-starring "Captain Marvel.

Up until its recently-completed final season, each and every installment of "Peaky Blinders" has featured a big name actor in the role of the main antagonist. While Finn Cole's Michael Gray took the centerstage in season 6, throwing the Shelby family into turmoil as he finally came to blows with his estranged cousin Tommy (Cillian Murphy) in an epic power struggle, prior seasons carefully built up each standalone threat as a new headache for Tommy and his gang of Peaky Blinders to deal with. From Sam Neill's odious Inspector Chester Campbell to Adrien Brody's Luca Changretta, the Shelbys eventually managed to take care of every major obstacle in their path -- all except for one.
Sam Claflin's Sir Oswald Mosley, based on the real-life historical figure who whipped pre-wwii Britain into a fascist frenzy, has posed the most significant challenge to Tommy's grand plans. Brought together out of mutual benefit,...

It might be easy to think that "Peaky Blinders" is a rip-roaring gangster story, exploring the rise (and likely fall) of Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby as leader of the most fearsome collection of petty thieves and bloodthirsty criminals in early 1900s Birmingham. It certainly is that, to be sure, but that description doesn't quite manage to do justice to the collection of fascinating characters caught up in the wake of Tommy's ceaseless ambitions to grow his organization from the mud-soaked grime of horse racing to the upper echelons of political influence in Parliament. No, it'd probably be more accurate to call this popular (and recently concluded) show a family drama.
None know that better than Sophie Rundle, who has portrayed Tommy's sister Ada Thorne since the inaugural season. Initially wanting nothing to do with her brother's illegal activities or even the family name itself, Ada has since grown into...

This article contains spoilers for "Peaky Blinders" up to season 6.
"Peaky Blinders" is a family affair — in more ways than one — but this particular crime family has a definite head, and that is Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). Over the course of six seasons, "Peaky Blinders" juggled the comings and goings of many an ensemble cast member, including Joe Cole and his real-life brother Finn Cole, who played Johnny Shelby and his cousin Michael Gray. Yet both Coles were key players, and the character of Johnny had been with the series from the start, so fans were shocked when he went out in a hail of bullets at the beginning of season 4.
Joe Cole has since gone on to star in "Gangs of London" and the 2022 British TV miniseries "The Ipcress File," and it turns out Johnny's fate may have come as a result of the actor looking to spread his...

Before "Peaky Blinders" built to its thrilling climax in the final season, pitting Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby against his own flesh and blood Michael Gray (Finn Cole) in a power grab for the ages, the popular BBC series largely featured one primary antagonist per season -- often portrayed by established character actors or even big-name stars. Early seasons saw the street gang come up against the relentless Inspector Campbell. Soon followed Noah Taylor as mobster Darby Sabini, Paddy Considine's loathsome priest Father Hughes, Sam Claflin as fascist Oswald Mosley, and even Tom Hardy as sometimes-enemy, sometimes-ally, Alfie Solomons across the entire show's run.
"Peaky Blinders" took a turn, however, once Adrien Brody turned up in all his stereotypically New York/Italian glory as the formidable Luca Changretta in season 4. Vowing revenge on Tommy Shelby and his entire family for the brutal killing of his father, the mobster ended...

"Peaky Blinders" is part of a continuum of gangster movies and TV shows that dates back to the early 1930s when actors like James Cagney and Edward G. Robinson were making black-and-white films such as "The Public Enemy" and "Little Caesar." Even on television, "Peaky Blinders" was predated by prestige dramas like "The Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire," but one thing that set it apart from the bulk of its predecessors was its focus on a street gang in Birmingham, England, as opposed to the Italian mafia in America.
When Cillian Murphy donned his razor blade cap to play series protagonist Thomas Shelby in "Peaky Blinders," he was aware, as any actor would be, of those genre conventions, which "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas" helped popularize. Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the series finale of Peaky Blinders…: Before it debuts on Netflix on June 10 in the U.S. and other markets, period gangster epic Peaky Blinders‘ sixth and final season concluded with a feature-length episode on BBC One in the UK tonight. Created by Steven Knight, who cautioned me before the finale to “expect the unexpected,” Peaky went out in top and twisty form with operatic and Godfather-esque flourishes. Since debuting in 2013, and gaining a rabid global fanbase, the Shelby family is meeting its end as a TV series, however, Knight has confirmed that a movie is going to happen — and given how the finale played out, there is still much to explore.
So, how did this iteration wrap things up for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and the rest of the Birmingham crew? Throughout this season, we’ve been reminded of the words...

Warning: contains spoilers for Peaky Blinders season six episode three ‘Gold’.
In Peaky Blinders season six, Ada reluctantly steps into her brother Tommy’s shoes to run the company in his absence. She visits the Small Heath gambling den to issue orders to one of the gang’s soldiers. Go to Liverpool and deal with the union convener who’s organising the theft and sale of Peaky Blinders opium. Take Arthur with you, she says. When Ada’s questioned about the wisdom of sending junkie Arthur into a warehouse filled with opium, she says that it’s not Arthur going, it’s his reputation. “No-one would dare fuck with Arthur Shelby.” “But they would fuck with me?” asks the gang member. “Yes. He is Arthur Shelby. You’re Isaiah…who?”
Isaiah… Who?
He’s Isaiah Jesus, the son of Jamaican-born street preacher Jeremiah, who fought alongside Tommy, Arthur and John in France.

The Shelby family is returning for one last ride as the final season of Peaky Blinders is set to land on Netflix on June 10. Created by Steven Knight and starring Cillian Murphy, the hit series is set in Birmingham, England, and follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the fallout of the First World War. While the upcoming sixth season will be the show’s last, a spinoff film adaptation is in development and expected to go into production in 2023. Murphy reprises his role as family patriarch Tommy Shelby, alongside Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby Jr., Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, Natasha O’Keeffe as Lizzie Shelby, and Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons. However, one key character missing from Season 6 is Aunt Polly, played by Helen McCrory, who tragically passed away from cancer last April. “I think this...

No wonder he’s having seizures; Tommy’s last deal is next-level complicated. He’s intercepted President Roosevelt’s route to British and Irish fascists to undermine their goal of installing a fascist leader in Britain and ultimately ushering in the ideology of their “friend in Berlin”. To do it, he’s pretending to sell Churchill’s secrets to Jack Nelson in exchange for a spurious opium deal that he’s really doing with Nelson’s Jewish enemies in order to unseat the kingpin from his Boston throne.
If this final strategy comes off, Tommy will have snuffed out fascism, avenged Polly’s murder, made more money than God, and earned his escape. That is, if Michael Gray, a brain tumour or a gypsy curse don’t kill him first. And seeing as Tommy’s adopting a ‘keep your friends close and your...

Surprising as it sounds, it has been 889 days since BBC One aired the Season 5 finale of period gangster saga Peaky Blinders. What better tribute could Peaky Blinders pay to the character of Aunt Polly – and to the equally redoubtable Helen McCrory – than birdsong and fire and a portrait titled “Fuck Them All”? A portrait the eyes of which lingered in the sky at the funeral of the gypsy queen, watching over the sorry lot of them. The untimely death of McCrory from illness during the Covid-rescheduled production period necessitated a rewrite in which her character became a casualty of Tommy’s ambition. That deep loss was confronted head-on this episode, with a music-free funeral pyre and a vow of vengeance spoken into the flames.
This show’s always lived side-by-side with ghosts, omens and dreams. It’s set in a world where the walls between life and death run thin. So Polly’s gone and yet not gone. Tommy still talks to her. And...

As DC are putting out their digital first offerings so fast and furious, I managed to miss issue 1 of the new Aquaman digital first offering. Boo. Luckily enough that story, featuring fan favourite Black Manta, was self contained, so jumping straight in with this second issue isn’t a problem. Another story originally from the WalMart/ Target books, this one funnily enough touches on the theme of pollution, as did the last digital first book I reviewed (The Flash). Aquaman, of course, as a character would seem a pretty terrible King of the Seven Seas if he didn’t confront pollution now and then, and writers down the years have taken a stab at just that. Can Michael Grey give us anything new? Let’s take a look.

Season five of Peaky Blinders - which hit Netflix in the Us on Oct. 4 - is a wild ride, and the good news for fans is that season six of the show is definitely happening. The show's creator, Steven Knight, confirmed that at least one, if not two new seasons are on their way, and scripts for season six have already been written. Speaking to the Birmingham Press Club, he said, "We are definitely doing six, and we will probably do seven. After series four, it went mad." So what can we expect from the Shelby family in the future?
Who's In the Cast for Peaky Blinders Season 6?
Don't worry - Tommy Shelby isn't going anywhere. According to Knight, "We've talked to Cillian Murphy, and he's all for it, and the rest of the principal cast are in for it." That means we can safely expect the return of Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby,...

At the beginning of Peaky Blinders season five, we see the Shelbys' cousin, Michael Gray (Finn Cole), living it large in America with his new girlfriend Gina (Anya-Taylor Joy). Though the two soon return to Birmingham as a result of the stock market crash on Wall Street, you may well have forgotten exactly why Michael was in America in the first place - it's been two years since the last season, after all, and the situation that went down was a bit convoluted. Season four ended with Michael being sent to America after betraying Tommy, an action that may well lead Tommy to believe that Michael is the "black cat" haunting his dreams (thought to be a sign of a traitor nearby according to Polly's folklore) in the latest season.

Netflix is bringing back Peaky Blinders for a fifth season and we’ve got a fantastic new trailer to share with you for it that is sure to get the fans pumped up for what this next season will entail. In the next chapter of the story, the Shelbys grapple with the 1929 stock market crash, and Tommy “confronts new threats to his power from younger family members and fascist rivals.”
It’s been two freakin’ years since Peaky Blinders Season 4 was released on Netflix and I’m so happy that we’ve got six more episodes coming our way soon! It’s been promised by series creator Steven Knight that this season will be filled with “shocks and surprises.”
Here’s the synopsis:

With just two weeks to go until the Oct. 4 launch date, Netflix has released a brand new trailer for the fifth season of “Peaky Blinders” — and it’s full of real and imagined violence, and one unfortunate scarecrow.
If you want to see Tommy Shelby use a Tommy gun to murder a scarecrow hung on a cross, watch the video above now.
Before it gets blasted to smithereens, the straw effigy of Cillian Murphy’s character delivers a sinister note telling him: “Look down on earth, and see the seeds you have sown.”

An epic, gangster family series set in the lawless streets of Birmingham, UK and beyond, Peaky Blinders follows the evolution of leader Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) from backstreet crime lord to legitimate businessman and member of parliament. It explores the notions that violence destroys lives, empires rise and fall over time, and class divisions are corrosive. Season 5, returning Friday, October 4th, finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. When Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realizes that his response will impact not only the future of his family but that of the entire nation. Returning cast members include Cillian Murphy (Dunkirk, 28 Days Later) as Thomas Shelby, Helen McCrory (Skyfall, Harry Potter) as Polly Gray, Paul Anderson (The Revenant, Legend) as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard) as Ada Thorne (Shelby), Finn Cole (Animal Kingdom) as Michael Gray,...

It’s been nearly two years since Peaky Blinders Season 4 was released on Netflix. Well, after that long wait, Season 5 has finally been given a U.S. release date! The six-episode Birmingham, UK set crime saga will be released in the UK on August 25th and in the U.S. on October 4th.
I love this show and it’s about damn time Season 5 gets a release date! Series creator Steven Knight talked about the upcoming chapter of the story saying that it begins with the Wall Street crash of 1929 and the Shelby family “seriously affected because they’ve invested their legitimate money and are going to have to fall back on the illegitimate money.” He also promised “shocks and surprises to come.”

Netflix has revealed the release date for the fifth season of “Peaky Blinders,” announcing that the Shelby family’s crime saga will launch Oct. 4 on the streaming service. This is after the BBC One drama first airs across the pond, of course.
Here’s the official description for the Steven Knight-created series’ fifth season:

Following last week’s news that Season 5 of epic BAFTA-winning crime saga Peaky Blinders will debut August 25 in the UK, Netflix has set its premiere date for the U.S. and beyond. All six episodes of the Cillian Murphy-led series will launch on the streaming service at 12:01Am Pt on Friday October 4 in the States and all markets where Netflix has the show’s rights.
Anticipation for S5 has been ramping up as the global fanbase eagerly awaits Peaky’s return, nearly two years after Season 4 which was its highest-rated yet — the trailer for the upcoming run has garnered more than 3.5M views since its unveiling at the end of July. The Steven Knight-created series is also coming back after it scored its first Best TV Drama BAFTA, for Season 4, in 2018 — a rarity for a show that many years along.

Archer executive producer, Casey Willis, walks us through the finale of Archer: 1999 and what may lie ahead for the show.
For three years Archer has been playing make believe and testing the audience’s limits of just how long they can go without addressing Archer’s coma, but it’s finally happened. The wait is over and Archer is finally ready to get back to the basics.
This all comes on the heels of the very successful season of Archer: 1999 that did a ton with their new space motif. This season featured many fantastical adventures that allowed the show to have so much fun. The season’s finale, “Robert De Niro” not only sees Archer on trial for his violent actions against Lana, but Barry-6 leads an alien ambush onto the M/V Seamus to take everyone down. It’s a satisfying ending to this season of stories,...

Jackson Bostwick was only 30 years old when he slipped into the shocking spandex and took on the role of the superhero Captain Marvel -- opposite Michael Gray as the young boy Billy Batson -- on the short-running Saturday Morning television show 'Shazam!' Although the series only lasted from 1974 to 1976 Jackson Bostwick only played the character Captain Marvel for the first 17 episodes of the program ... and was replaced by John Davey for the final eleven episodes.

Stars: Finn Cole, Asa Butterfield, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Michael Sheen, Margot Robbie, Hermione Corfield, Jo Hartley, Jamie Blackley, Isabella Laughland, Tom Rhys Harries, Kit Connor, Hanako Footman, Jane Stanness | Written by Crispian Mills, Henry Fitzherbert | Directed by Crispian Mills
Slaughterhouse Rulez, directed by Crispian Mills, is the first produced joint venture between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s production company Stolen Picture. The two also star in this campy comedy flick that is mash-up of Edgar Wright’s beloved British comedy Shaun of the Dead and Neil Marshall’s cult-classic underground monster movie Dog Soldiers, released in 2004 and 2002 respectively. However, Slaughterhouse Rulez feels more of a hollow homage of sorts – a thinly veiled layer of both horror and comedy that is sadly entirely derivative of any and all of Edgar Wright’s filmography, albeit with a decent screenplay and character craft.
The performances are undoubtedly the key highlight of this production.

Michael Gray, a Hollywood marketing executive which introduced the electronic press kit to the industry, died Monday at his home in Baltimore. He was 87.
His daughter Madeleine Gray confirmed his death on Facebook, saying that he died in his sleep following complications of a hip fracture sustained in January. “We are relieved he did not have to suffer in his greatly-reduced cognitive and physical condition — the things he most dreaded about aging — for too long,” she wrote on Facebook.
Gray graduated from New York University and worked in newspapers before transitioning to the world of publicity. He was the manager at Columbia Pictures’ TV division Screen Gems While there, he introduced Naked City, Route 66 and The Flintstones to the fold. His experience would bring him to Rogers & Cowan where he would take on the role of director of its New York television department.

Peaky Blinders Season 5 will see Tommy tackle his most dangerous job yet – politics, as a member of Parliament.
Peaky Blinders Season 5 has officially been a thing since the December 2017 Season 4 finale aired in the U.K., upon which the BBC confirmed that a fifth season renewal was already a done deal. Thus, fans have been waiting nearly two years since we last left Tommy and the Shelby clan.
Of course, Peaky Blinders Season 4 reaped record ratings for its U.K. airing, on BBC Two, culminating with 3.6 million viewers tuning in for the finale. We’ll probably never know the hard figures for its U.S. performance on Netflix, due to the streaming giant’s secretiveness over those things. However, the binge habits of American audiences clearly renewed the show's momentum.
