Following “The Zone of Interest,” Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” and Berlinale offering “Treasure,” about a Holocaust survivor, the latter starring Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham, Poland might be welcoming more foreign shoots in the future.

“I would always be willing to return and shoot in Poland,” says “Treasure” director Julia von Heinz.

“Our co-producer Mariusz Włodarski from Lava Films realized that during the tenure of the Law and Justice [PiS] government, there was no chance of obtaining public funding for a story where Polish people are portrayed not just as victims and heroes, but as complex human beings. Now, our film is embraced there.”

There’s a lot going on in the historical drama Mr. Jones, that’s for sure. Unfortunately, too little of what happens is of limited interest, at least in the manner being depicted. What should be a troubling, urgent, and deeply upsetting tale instead comes off fairly rote and uninspiring. The material is there, it just never comes across in a particularly cinematic way. Additionally, the film does an incredibly frustrating thing in detailing some of its most interesting information during a title card at the end. That sealed the deal and prevented me from giving it even a mild recommendation. Now available On Demand, it seems like it’s destined to be quickly forgotten about. The movie is a biographical/historical drama, taking place in the days before the second World War would begin. Vegetarian vengeance! I don't even know how to begin to describe how much I loved this film. Spoor, also known as Pokot originally, is a film from Poland about an elderly former teacher who lives in a small town. She loves her two adorable dogs, but one day they go missing, and thus begins this thrilling story of animal lover vengeance. The cinematography in this film is Stunning, some of the best since The Revenant, and I really mean that. Along with an incredibly unique score from Antoni Lazarkiewicz, and exceptional lead performance by Agnieszka Mandat-Grabka, this won't be a film you forget. Exclusive: Poland’s Akson Studio, producer of Andrzej Wajda’s Venice title Walesa. Man Of Hope, is preparing a film set in the world of the Polish mafia.

Speaking exclusively to ScreenDaily, producer Jan Kwiecinski said the feature, titled Totem, will be “a very raw movie in the vein of films like Bullhead or Pusher.”

He added: “It will be made with non-professional actors, very dark, low budget, and totally different from what we are doing at the moment.”

Totem will mark the feature directorial debut of Jakub Charon, who has previously written and directed two short films, Traces and Tension. He is also a member of alternative rock group NarcolipZ and an author of two novels.
