Check back here at Wamg soon for a list of Clint’s ten best films as a director.
Honorable Mention: Honkytonk Man
By the 1980s, Clint Eastwood was one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. With his own production company, directorial skills, and economic clout, Eastwood was able to make smaller, more personal films. A perfect example is the underrated Honkytonk Man, which also happens to be one of Eastwood’s finest performances.

Easter weekend usually signals an onslaught of religious movies, especially coming from the other side of the pond. While it’s easy to dismiss the majority of these films as too simplistic in their approach to faith, some in the past, see The Shack, have offered a little more gravitas than others. The same sadly can’t be said about Let There Be Light, a film so ingrained in blind-faith and conservatism that it could turn any God-fearing christian into a confirmed atheist.
Directed by and starring TV’s very own Hercules Kevin Sorbo, the film is co-produced by conservative Fox News anchor Sean Hannity and is written by Sorbo’s wife Sam Sorbo alongside veteran writer Dan Gordon, the man behind Hollywood classics such as Wyatt Earp and The Hurricane.

"Can you explain your place in the universe?" Picturehouse has debuted the first official trailer for a very peculiar, mysterious drama from the UK titled Out of Blue, from director Carol Morley. The film's story focuses on a detective who is investigating the shooting of an astrophysicist and black hole expert, but seem to lose her grip on reality and get lost in the existential concepts of time and relevance. Or something like that. Patricia Clarkson stars in this, with Jacki Weaver, James Caan, Toby Jones, Aaron Tveit, Mamie Gummer, Alyshia Ochse, Jonathan Majors, and Gary Grubbs. There are some interesting scenes in this trailer - moments where people disappear, very wacky lines of dialogue, but I am more than intrigued and very curious to find out what's really going on and what else this film covers. What big ideas it discusses, and how they work all that into the narrative.

Dark Sky Films has brought us films as diverse and bold as The House Of The Devil, The Innkeepers, and Stake Land. Joining that esteemed company is the recently released (and now available on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD) Convergence, in which a cop (Clayne Crawford, Swimfan, Jericho) finds himself trapped in limbo and must find redemption before he can escape. With support from veteran actors Ethan Embry (Vacancy, Once Upon A Time) and Mykelti Williamson (The Final Destination, Forrest Gump), the nightmarish action-horror film deals with weighty themes of religious fanaticism and atonement. We spoke with writer-director Drew Hall about his inspiration, beliefs, and symbolism.
Famous Monsters. Convergence is very timely since we’re in a period of religious extremism. Is that what prompted you to write the film?
Drew Hall. Yes. I grew up during a time period of very aggressive but non-violent anti-abortion protests. My family would take...

Tagline: "Where the Path to Heaven Meets the Road to Hell." *full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Dark Sky Films. **spoilers: it is recommended that you see this film before reading this review. Director/writer: Drew Hall. Cast: Clayne Crawford, Ethan Embry, Mykelti Williamson, Gary Grubbs and Chelsea Bruland. Convergence is a supernatural thriller and horror title from director Drew Hall. The film takes place in a couple of spheres, thanks partially to Dante's Purgatorio. The removal of sins has been replaced by the protagonist's search for the truth. Act III makes this readily apparent as Ben (Clayne Crawford) comes to terms with his murderer. While trying to avoid spoilers, this review will also look as some of the films indie influences and positive film elements. Convergence is a great mystery, whose secret should be unwrapped by film fans. Convergence offers a compelling story. It...

'JFK' movie with Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison 'JFK' assassination movie: Gripping political drama gives added meaning to 'Rewriting History' If it's an Oliver Stone film, it must be bombastic, sentimental, clunky, and controversial. With the exception of "clunky," JFK is all of the above. It is also riveting, earnest, dishonest, moving, irritating, paranoid, and, more frequently than one might expect, outright brilliant. In sum, Oliver Stone's 1991 political thriller about a determined district attorney's investigation of the assassination of U.S. president John F. Kennedy is a slick piece of propaganda that mostly works both dramatically and cinematically. If only some of the facts hadn't gotten trampled on the way to film illustriousness. With the exception of John Williams' overemphatic score – Oliver Stone films need anything but overemphasis – JFK's technical and artistic details are put in place to extraordinary effect. The Michael Bay-produced found footage thriller Welcome to Yesterday (previously titled Almanac) is headed our way a bit later than anticipated. No one is certain when just yet, but we'll let you know when we get something concrete. In the interim cross February 28th off of your movie-going calendar.
Insiders say the release is being postponed to give Bay, who has been busy directing the mega-tentpole Transfomers: Age of Extinction, which opens June 24th, the opportunity to focus on the smaller movie.
Paramount is now mulling a new release date during the summer or fall.

Ryuhei Kitamura’s second American film (his first was the Vinnie Jones starrer The Midnight Meat Train), No One Lives harks back to his early work – the Super 8 short Down to Hell and his most famous flick Versus – putting strangers together in a pitched battle against a common enemy.
The film starts out very much along the typical backwoods/hillbilly slant, as a gang of robbers screw up their latest mansion heist and, to make up for their loses, kidnap a couple in a car instead. It looks as though we’re seemingly headed down the torture route, with our villains set to get the information they need from the couple by any means necessary. However Kitamura flips the script and what the robbers,...

Well, at the very least, "No One Lives" actually delivers on its title, however, it also tells you exactly what will happen in an already rote, routine and predictable movie. It's an R-rated horror flick that -- with a few obvious, quick cuts -- could easily be PG-13, perhaps indicating no one really knew what they wanted from the start. It's a movie that takes place mostly over the course of one night, utilizing a small handful of locations, but the low budget would suggest this was a choice of financing, rather than the requirements of the script. It's a movie that casts "Hey, it's that guy!" character actor Gary Grubbs in a part even too small and innocuous for him. Really, "No One Lives" isn't so much awful, but an example of a series of bad decisions that wind up resulting in a bad movie. Sometimes it's as simple as that.

It's official: ghost-busting Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd is going back to his roots—because this funnyman has just become the third "Saturday Night Live" alum to join the cast of the political comedy "Dog Fight." (A comedy about politics? Surely we jest.)
'Tis true, good citizens. Aykroyd has teamed up with former 30 Rock employees Will Ferrell and Jason Sudeikis in this story of two rival South Carolina politicians with presidential aspirations who tangle with each other. Something tells us things get dirty.
Zach Galifianakis (not an "SNL" alum) also stars, and the rounded out cast list includes John Lithgow, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox, Josh Lawson, Gary Grubbs and P.J. Byrne, Movie Hole reports.
Aykroyd has some legit experience channeling a Southerner, as he recently portrayed President Jimmy Carter in Funny or Die’s ‘Presidential Reunion’ Sketch, which was pretty awesome. Oh, and he owns the House of Blues restaurant chain.

Here's something that will keep Dan Aykroyd from beating his giant Ghostbusters 3 drum for a minute: the comic actor and enthusiastic vodka pitchman has a small role in the political comedy Dog Fight, alongside Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. The film, shooting now under the direction of Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents) is a political satire that features Ferrell and Galifianakis as rival South Carolina politicians with an eye on the White House. The movie is going to be timed pretty well, hitting as it will just as the 2012 Presidential campaign is in its final stages. That'll be in the zone where politics is on everyone's mind, but the wild early stages of the Republican primaries will be long done. The question will be: can Dog Fight hope to be as unexpectedly weird and comic as the runup to those primaries has been? It seems like Aykroyd...
