Comedy isn’t always about cracking a joke; sometimes, it’s about who can land a punchline when it’s least expected. This was exactly the case when Mark Wahlberg took a savage swing at Kevin Hart during an interview for Hart’s show Hart to Heart. And, let’s just say, it was a bit too much even for the comedian himself. The roast hit harder than Hart’s usual punchlines, and the reaction? Well, it was priceless.

The two are known for their hilarious on-screen camaraderie in Me Time (2022), a Netflix film where Hart plays a stay-at-home dad named Sonny, enjoying some much-needed ‘me time’ while his family is away. But off-screen? The two stars don’t always play it by the rules.

Determining Ben Stiller's best role is no easy task, as the prolific performer has more than a few borderline iconic characters to his name. Tony Perkis in "Heavyweights," Mr. Furious in "Mystery Men," White Goodman in "Dodgeball," Chas Tenenbaum in "The Royal Tenenbaums," Tugg Speedman in "Tropic Thunder," the titular Derek "Zoolander," and Ted Stroehmann in "There's Something About Mary" are all characters that feel synonymous with Stiller, and roles that no one else but him could pull off. And then there's Greg Focker in "Meet the Parents," a role Stiller has played in three different films, the lovable everyman who can't seem to impress his overbearing father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). For as much as Stiller has made a name for himself with distinctive characters like Hal the Orderly Guy in "Happy Gilmore," his genuine charm allowed him to flourish in relatable roles, with Greg arguably the best example of this.

Ben Stiller opens up about Zoolander 2’s box office when it premiered, saying he felt “blindsided” by the results.
Stiller directed the action comedy sequel, which he co-wrote alongside Justin Theroux, Nick Stoller, and John Hamburg. It was released in 2016 and opened to $15.9M over a Valentine’s weekend. The film grossed domestically $29M with a $50M budget.
“I thought everybody wanted this,” Stiller said on David Duchovny’s podcast Fail Better (via People). “And then it’s like, ‘Wow, I must have really f***ed this up. Everybody didn’t go to it. And it’s gotten these horrible reviews.”
He continued, “It really freaked me out because I was like, ‘I didn’t know was that bad?’ What scared me the most on that one was l’m losing what I think what’s funny, the questioning yourself … on Zoolander 2, it was definitely blindsiding to me.

Sorry About Your Wife, Reuben: Filmmaker John Hamburg Looks Back on 20 Years with ‘Along Came Polly’
It’s been 20 years since senior Model Un delegate Polly Prince wandered back into the life of unlucky-in-love insurance adjuster Reuben Feffer.
Jennifer Aniston charmed the pants off Ben Stiller’s persnickety everyman as the chaotically seductive title character in “Along Came Polly”: filmmaker John Hamburg’s raunchy odd coupling about a New Yorker who catches his wife (a perfectly loath-able Debra Messing) cheating on him with a scuba instructor (a hysterical and jacked Hank Azaria) during their tropical honeymoon. Back in the city, with the misguided help of his friend and former child star Sandy Lyle (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman at his funniest), Reuben runs into blast from the past Polly, who may or may not be the real love of his life, just two weeks later.
From flooded apartment bathrooms and sweaty basketball matches to extra violent children’s books and an unforgettable salsa number, this...

Me Time brings a type of buddy comedy to Netflix that theatrical audiences haven’t gotten to experience as much in recent years, and the film is courtesy of a writer and director who knows quite a bit about the genre’s glory era.
The movie, currently streaming, stars Kevin Hart as Sonny Fisher, a musician and stay-at-home dad who manages to find some coveted time away from breadwinner-wife Maya (Regina Hall) and their kids by joining carefree pal Huck (Mark Wahlberg) on a hedonistic weekend adventure that quickly goes awry. Of course, “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount/19.99) is the #1 film on all VOD charts its first week and probably will be for a good while — but it wasn’t the only success. As theatrical attendance hit new lows with no new product and aging summer hits, this might have been the biggest revenue weekend ever for home viewing platforms.
The VOD sites are now benefiting from the theatrical play summer hits including “Maverick,” “Nope” (Universal/19.99), and “DC League of Super-Pets” (Wbd). among debuting releases — none of which are available on the studios’ streaming sites. Meanwhile, Netflix seems to be counter-programming with a heavily original lineup that includes titles that may have once been intended for theaters.
Of note — “Maverick” is for sale as a digital download initially, not just a 48 hour rental. At this point after release, this would be normally, but usually after an earlier period of rental only. “Spider-Man: No Way Home...

With his family away, a devoted stay-at-home dad enjoys his first me time in years by joining his hard-partying old friend on a wild birthday adventure.
Do we really need yet another Kevin Hart comedy this year? To be completely honest with you, it’s arguable that “Kevin Hart comedy” is actually its own genre of film. The difference between that and a normal comedy? A normal comedy is actually funny and has a strong script and entertaining characters that make you smile and put you in a good mood.
Hart’s films are almost always devoid of any of these qualities, making it virtually impossible to fall head over heels for one of his comedies. We were already tortured to one of his films this year in the form of The Man From Toronto...

Plot: When a stay-at-home dad finds himself with some “me time” for the first time in years while his wife and kids are away, he reconnects with his former best friend for a wild weekend that nearly upends his life.
Review: Kevin Hart is anything if not consistent. Over the course of his big screen career, Hart has consistently played the same character time and again: the lovable straight man who invariably loses his cool and hilarious results follow. From Night School and Central Intelligence to Jumanji and Ride Along, Hart has never come close to matching the energy of his stand-up comedy shows for the entirety of a feature film. While he has tried his hand at more dramatic fare like Fatherhood, True Story, and The Upside or action roles like Die Hart and The Man From Toronto, Hart consistently returns to comedies. Me Time, directed and written by John Hamburg (Meet the Parents), pairs Hollywood powerhouses Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg in a chemistry-free friendship full of slapstick comedy and high jinks. Hamburg is known for his comedic work. The same goes for Hart and Wahlberg, but the three combined created something full of hot air. Regina Hall also stars in the film and is relegated to the background as the nagging significant other. It’s actually impressive how unfunny this film is and that one must sit through every painful moment until the credits roll.
The movie, which debuts on Netflix on Friday, opens with Sonny Fisher (Hart) and Huck Dembo (Wahlberg) celebrating the latter’s 29th birthday in Moab, Utah. As expected, something wacky happens to Sonny, thus setting the tone for their friendship. Fast forward 15 years later, and Sonny is now a househusband who cooks, cleans and is president of the PTA.

“Me Time,” a slapdash comedy by writer-director John Hamburg, stars Kevin Hart as Sonny Fisher, a stay-at-home parent suffering from what Betty Friedan labeled “the problem with no name.” Sonny feels lonely and out-of-step around adults with concerns more grown-up than his fixation on minivan technology, elementary school talent shows and a proposal to include plant-based milks in the cafeteria. His wife Maya (Regina Hall), a high-powered architect, proposes that he press pause on his domestic responsibilities to reconnect with his own inner needs. She’ll take their two kids Dash and Ava (Che Tafari and Amentii Sledge) over spring break if he’ll agree to attend the 44th birthday blowout extravaganza of his childhood best friend Huck (Mark Wahlberg), a footloose, Peter Pan-esque party boy whose company isn’t much more mature.

Cinema purists may be loath to admit it, but there are certain advantages to streaming a movie over going to a theater. You’re in the comfort of your own home, for example. So when you’re watching a film like “Me Time” and you feel like walking out, there’s no shame in that. You don’t have to get up and gather your things and excuse yourself in front of a crowd. You can just press a couple of buttons and watch “Bridgerton” instead.
That may sound like a burn but, to be fair, the characters in “Me Time” would also rather be watching “Bridgerton.” Fifteen minutes into this Netflix exclusive, Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, who play the married couple Sonny and Maya Fisher, get into an argument because they were supposed to watch the Netflix exclusive “Bridgerton” together. Instead, she watched it with someone else on a business trip.

Middle-aged men acting stupidly has sadly become a cinematic staple in an era marked by the celebration of refusing to grow up as a way of life. Any doubts that the new Netflix comedy starring Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg will buck the trend are immediately dispelled in the opening moments featuring daredevil stunts (not performed by the stars, natch) and broad pratfalls that wouldn’t have been out of place in the silent era. "Every parent's dream is to spend a week without their family" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for Me Time, a new comedy from writer / director John Hamburg. Who's ready for another absurd and crazy Kevin Hart Netflix project?? When a stay-at-home dad finds himself with some “me time” for the first time in years while his family is away, he reconnects with his former best friend for a wild weekend that nearly upends his life. Mark Wahlberg co-stars with Kevin Hart, and a huge ensemble cast including Regina Hall, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Jimmy O. Yang, plus John Amos, Anna Maria Horsford, Andrew Santino, Deborah S. Craig, Naomi Ekperigin, and Drew Droege. This looks so stupid, there's no way to not admit this about it, especially when they get into this wingsuit scene at the end. This is campy 90s crap that wasn't supposed to be in movies ...

CBS has started to pare down its returning series slate for next season, cancelling comedy The Unicorn‘s after two seasons. It is one two sophomore series the network won’t be bringing back, along with drama All Rise. Two other CBS bubble series, Seal Team and Clarice, are eying a move to Paramount+.
From the get-go, the single-camera Unicorn, starring Walton Goggins, has been, well, an unicorn, on CBS, not quite fitting into the network’s traditional sitcom mold.
Yet, the series, which was well received by critics and features one of the strongest comedy casts on TV, had big fans at the highest ranks at CBS, which helped it snag a Season 2 renewal last year for a limited midseason run, which concluded in March.
The Unicorn’s linear ratings were among the lowest on CBS but its Live+Same Day delivery was actually higher than that for the renewed S.

Both “All Rise” and “The Unicorn” have been canceled at CBS after two seasons each. “All Rise” is set to air its final episode at the end of May, while “The Unicorn” wrapped up in March.
The move to cancel “All Rise” comes less than two months after series creator and co-showrunner Greg Spottiswood was fired from the series following a probe into allegations of race and gender issues in the show’s writer room.
“All Rise” dealt with the lives and relationships of the judges, lawyers, clerks, and law enforcement officers who work at the Los Angeles County Courthouse. Simone Missick starred as newly appointed judge Lola Carmichael, with Wilson Bethel, Marg Helgenberger, Jessica Camacho, J. Alex Brinson, Lindsay Mendez, Ruthie Ann Miles, Lindsey Gort, and Audrey Corsa. Dee Harris Lawrence, Len Goldstein and Michael Robin were executive producers. Warner Bros. Television produced.

Rob Corddry, a Daily Show alum, Emmy-winner and star of CBS sitcom The Unicorn, will headline a joint Medscape and WebMD fundraiser this Thursday, April 16. The effort is in support of Project C.U.R.E, an international organization focused on providing face masks and other protective medical equipment to millions of healthcare workers.

Funny You Should Mask will run simultaneously on the WebMD and Medscape Facebook pages on April 16 beginning at 8 Pm Et. The show will feature Corddry and fellow comedians Dr. Ken Jeong, Eric Andre, Sasheer Zamata, Nicole Byer, and Kumail Nanjiani talking with doctors and nurses on the Covid-19 front lines about what they are experiencing and what healthcare workers need.
Conversations include a nurse working in an underserved community, two New York City transplant surgeons who have transformed their office into a Covid-19 positive facility, an emergency medicine doctor in Los Angeles who continues to work from home to support her staff and patients, an epidemiologist who is pushing for increased testing, and an emergency medicine doctor from Portland, Oregon caring for Covid-19 patients.
“There’s nothing funny about coronavirus, but that doesn’t mean a little levity won’t lift the sagging spirits of any healthcare professional who needs it,” said Corddry.
“As the largest news, clinical tools and continuing education resource for healthcare professionals around the world, Medscape seemed like a natural fit for the collaboration,” said Ivan Oransky, M.D., Medscape’s vice president of editorial.
Similarly, WebMD is the most popular site for consumers seeking information on health-related topics. Both sites have seen dramatic increases in engagement since the Covid-19 outbreak began.
“We were excited that Rob and his comedy buddies wanted to work with Medscape, particularly to support a charity focused on addressing the critical shortages in masks and other personal protective equipment (Ppe),” he said. “These are extraordinarily difficult times for healthcare workers, and bringing some laughter, and importantly support for the work that they do, is a great effort.”
“Besides, we’re not very funny,” said Oransky.
Project C.U.R.E, the world’s largest distributor of donated medical relief, including masks, gloves and Ppe is now devoting all its resources to support healthcare workers in the U.S.
“We have been working hard to take care of the brave women and men who are fighting the Covid-19 fight on the frontlines of our community,” said Douglas Jackson, PhD, Jd, President and CEO, Project C.U.R.E.
“To partner with WebMD/Medscape and Rob Corddry on this project is an incredible encouragement, both to the nurses and doctors that we are working to help and to the thousands of Project C.U.R.E. volunteers who are in the warehouses, driving the trucks and committed to winning the battle. The idea that we can do serious work and put a smile on the faces of these terrific people is really magical. It’s this type of thing that will get us through.”

Its central character, Walton Goggins’s Wade Felton, has been mourning his wife for a year; he and his daughters (Ruby Jay and Makenzie Moss) have reached the stage of acceptance, though the white-hot heat of active grief lifting allows them now to focus on certain confusions they’d been ignoring: How does a family constructed of four people go on, logistically, as three? And what would it mean to make the first, very tentative attempts towards welcoming a new person in?
All of which sounds like the stuff of drama, but “The Unicorn” moves with an easy and light step. Its concerns include learning to talk to daughters about dating and entering the online-matchmaking fray. These plotlines treat every party (from the daughters to the divorcée Wade asks out) with fairness and, crucially, don’t allow Wade to play the bumbling, inept dad. After all, he’s been a...

Exclusive: Netflix has set Michael Sugar’s Sugar23 in an exclusive, multi-year overall deal for scripted series programming. The deal also includes a first look for unscripted series. Sources said it’s an unusually rich deal for a non-writing producer.
It puts Sugar’s TV deal under the same roof as his feature deal, which was brokered last October. Sugar and head of production Ashley Zalta spearhead both divisions for Sugar23. It also comes after Sugar served as an exec producer on the Netflix series Maniac, which Cary Fukunaga directed and which starred Emma Stone, Jonah Hill and Justin Theroux.
Sugar also previously worked with Netflix on the series side on The Oa, and 13 Reasons Why. In features, Sugar — who won an Oscar for producing Best Picture winner Spotlight — is a producer on the Steven Soderbergh-directed The Laundromat for Netflix, which stars Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.

There are always disappointments before UpFronts, but there is a lot of excitement generated, too.
Some of that excitement comes from renewals, but the real groove sets when we get our first look at new shows.
Now you can get a taste of everything coming to CBS!
All Rise is a new courthouse drama that follows the chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of its judges, prosecutors and public defenders, as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal process.
This fall, watch new episodes of All Rise on Mondays at 9/8c on CBS and CBS All Access.
Among them is newly appointed Judge Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick), a highly regarded and impressive deputy district attorney who doesn’t intend to sit back on the bench in her new role, but instead leans in, immediately pushing the boundaries...

Written by Martin and Schiff and directed by John Hamburg, The Unicorn, inspired by a true story, centers on Wade (Goggins), a recent widower who is eager to move on from the most difficult year of his life, only to realize he’s utterly unprepared to raise his two daughters on his own and equally unprepared for the dating world — where, to his shock, he’s suddenly a hot commodity.
Miller and Robinson play married couple Ben and Michelle, parents to four children. Ben is another of Wade’s well-meaning friends, who is convinced Wade is “going to crush it out there” in the dating world. He...

In a heated auction with multiple studios bidding, Netflix won movie rights to Dr. Rapp, and already is eyeing for John Hamburg to write the script and direct the film. The Atlantic magazine article by Jeff Maysh was published in January under How a Stroke Turned a 63-Year-Old Into a Rap Legend. It became the year’s first heated material acquisition.
David Klawans (Argo) will produce with Michael Sugar (Spotlight) and Ashley Zalta through Sugar23’s first-look Netflix deal.
Article tells the story of Dr. Sherman Hershfield, a respected neurologist from Beverly Hills who practiced medicine in the San Fernando Valley. When Hershfield suffered a stroke, an unusual side effect changed his life forever: He couldn’t stop speaking in rhyme. Remarkably, Hershfield then emerged in South Central as a freestyle performer, Dr. Rapp.
Hamburg’s scripting credits include Night School and Little Fockers. Films he has directed include Along Came Polly,...
