The global superstar joins Zoë Kravitz and Austin Butler in the Sony Pictures crime thriller, based on Charlie Huston’s novel of the same name. It is unknown who the artist will portray in the film adaptation.

According to the logline, the story “follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s NYC.”

National Geographic has renewed both Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and A Real Bug’s Life for second seasons. Season one of Limitless premiered on Disney+ in November 2022 and A Real Bug’s Life, narrated by Awkwafina, debuted in January 2024.

In season one, Hemsworth pushed the limits of his body and mind to discover how fasting can unlock the body’s anti-aging power, how to manage stress so it doesn’t kill you, and how exposure to extreme temperatures can trigger our bodies’ own defenses against the killer diseases of old age, all in a quest to live a longer, healthier life.

Nat Geo and Disney+ have also renewed A Real Bug’s Life, the (partially staged) nature series that uses the 1998 Pixar movie A Bug’s Life as its inspiration. The first film to play in the enormous, immersive new space in Las Vegas, Darren Aronofsky’s “Postcard From Earth,” has plenty of blue-screen, so to speak — that is, vast skies that stretch to fill the dome that towers 366 feet over the venue’s floor level. The 50-minute movie takes you into the reaches of space, too, with a wrap-around science-fiction narrative that is apropos for Sphere’s wrap-around screen. But “let’s get small” is an operative motif, too, as the proprietary Big Sky cameras zoom in on objects as tiny as a praying mantis.

Stock will soon be seen in a series regular role on FX’s drama series Kindred, adapted from the award-winning novel by Octavia E. Butler, which premieres on Hulu on December 13. The actor plays Kevin Franklin, who quickly becomes integral to the story of Dana James (Mallori Johnson), a young Black woman and aspiring writer who, while settling into her new home, finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time, from contemporary Los Angeles to a 19th-century plantation, a place remarkably and intimately linked with Dana and her family.

Kindred has been adapted for the small screen by writer and showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, who exec produces alongside Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel of Protozoa Pictures, as well as Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Courtney Lee-Mitchell and Jules Jackson.

Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky and his longtime creative partner, Ari Handel, are on a mission. At their production company, Protozoa Pictures, the two want to use movies and television to make science cool at a time when it’s under attack.

“There’s a lens that we look at things through,” says Handel. “A lot of our work is pro-science or involves technology or the environment. Morally, we think the world can use that right now.”

Some of that has to do with the backgrounds of the pair — Aronofsky did field research as a student at Harvard, and Handel has a Ph.D. in neuroscience. But that embrace of empiricism was also something the two felt had become important during the Trump era, when the government was often at odds with experts.

FX’s Kindred, the new drama series based on Octavia E. Butler’s novel, will premiere Tuesday, December 13 exclusively on Hulu. The premiere will include all eight episodes.

The series will soon be available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.

The announcement was made today at New York Comic Con during a Kindred panel presentation featuring showrunner and executive producer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and cast members Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, David Alexander Kaplan, Sophina Brown and Sheria Irving.

The six-part documentary series focuses on combating aging, with Hemsworth participating in epic challenges while guided by experts in the fields explored in each episode.

All six episodes debut on Disney+ on November 16, 2022.

Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne passed through the Toronto Film Festival Monday morning where they discussed their true-crime thriller The Good Nurse.

The film centers on Amy Loughren (Chastain), a nurse who starts to believe that her colleague Charlie Cullen (Redmayne) is responsible for a series of mysterious patient deaths and risks her own life to uncover the truth.

“The thing I liked so much about the film is that we see so often films about a serial killer or a story and its fetishized,” Chastain said while discussing why she joined the project. “You’d see him injecting the bags and I’ve always felt a little dirty watching that stuff. I don’t wanna celebrate or have the media glorify what happened to another human being. I wanna celebrate humanity, which is why I was excited about this.”

Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) stars as a nurse who suspects her colleague of murdering patients in Netflix’s The Good Nurse. The dramatic film, which just released a trailer and poster, is based on Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder and will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Good Nurse will be released in select theaters on October 19, 2022, followed by a premiere on Netflix on October 26.

Netflix has a knack for getting a lot of very talented people together in movies that seemingly just wouldn't get made at a traditional studio anymore. Case in point, "The Good Nurse" is a movie that features two Oscar winners in the form of Jessica Chastain ("It Chapter Two") and Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything") front-and-center in a thriller that is based on true events.

As the title implies, they are nurses working at a hospital but, as it turns out, only one of them is good and the other might actually be very bad. For a movie with such a seemingly innocuous title, the body count certainly stacks up in a hurry here. Let's take a gander, shall we?

National Geographic is sending Will Smith to both ends of the Earth. The programmer announced Monday that it has ordered the non-fiction series “Pole to Pole,” which follows Smith on a journey from the South Pole to the North Pole.

“Pole to Pole” is part of an extensive slate of new content that Nat Geo is bringing to Disney Plus, which it revealed during its portion of the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

“Pole to Pole” will mark Smith’s third project with National Geographic after “Welcome to Earth” and “One Strange Rock.” The series covers an expansive journey spanning different biomes, communities and landscapes across the Earth. “Pole to Pole” is executive produced by Smith under his Westbrook banner, alongside Miguel Melendez and Terence Carter. That Nat Geo tile on Disney+ just upped its star power. At Monday’s Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour, National Geographic unveiled 13 new original projects being produced for the streaming service, including shows from Will Smith, Jon Favreau and David Blaine.

Smith’s new series, “Pole to Pole,” comes under his Westbrook company’s first-look deal with Nat Geo. “Pole to Pole” follows Smith as he journeys 26,000 miles over 100 days from the South Pole to the North Pole.

Darren Aronofsky, James Cameron and Ron Howard/Brian Grazer are each overseeing a pair of new Disney+ programs under the Nat Geo banner. One of the projects from the Imagine duo will be Howard’s “We Feed People,” which premieres at SXSW ahead of its Memorial Day streaming launch. “We Feed People” follows chef José Andrés and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen’s mission in the disaster relief sector.

The project, which received a pilot order in July, hails from writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Watchmen), Courtney Lee-Mitchell (The Reluctant Fundamentalist), Darren Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures, Joe Weisberg (The Americans) and Joel Fields (Fosse/Verdon). The eight-episode series will be produced by FX Productions.

“Catch the Fair One,” a critically acclaimed thriller from Josef Kubota Wladyka (“Narcos”) starring real-life professional boxer Kali “K.O.” Reis, has been sold to major markets by Paris-based Memento International (“Call Me By Your Name”).

“Catch the Fair One” opened at Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and a Special Jury mention for Reis’ performance.

Memento has sold “Catch the Fair One” to France (Ace entertainment), U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand (Vertigo Releasing), Scandinavia and Baltics (Nonstop Entertainment), Israel (Lev Cinemas), Russia+Cis (Russian World Vision), Eastern Europe (HBO Europe), India (Indo Overseas Films), Indonesia (Pt Falcon) and the Middle East (Front Row).
