Well, that was a mediocre night of brooding dudes. Remember when I told last night's ladies to "matter more"? Turns out the gents needed the same memo, with one notable exception: The fabulous, high-heeled mess known as J'da, who announced he was "representing the gays" after his eye-popping, nutty, floor-clutching performance of "Rumour Has It," rocked me, confused me, and ultimately felt... too insane for this universe. We'll get to that in a bit. J'da's performance, I mean, not the universe where he can live and thrive. That's a couple millennia off.
Just like Wednesday's initial Vegas night, we saw 10 performers croon (all dudes this time), and five earned the right to stay while the other five were eliminated. Let's rank these 10 and sort out our feelings for years afterward with suburban therapist Kara DioGuardi. I assume that's what's she's up to recently.
10. Charlie Askew, Elton John's "Rocket Man"
Let's start with this.

The first round of sudden-death competition in Las Vegas sent five women to the top 20 and five others back to their day jobs (or high school classes). Last night, the men got their turn. After the performances the women delivered (and Idol's obvious and burning desire to crown a female winner), Mariah Carey warned the men that they needed to step up. Over the course of the evening, the first group of 10 men was slashed to five, and Nicki Minaj announced that she wanted marry Chris Watson's vibrato,...

Nicki Minaj fell in love on the Feb. 21 episode of ‘American Idol’ — unfortunately, 5 guys were cut. See who went home below.
For the second night in Las Vegas, American Idol judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson cut and critiqued and Nicki told one guy she wanted to have his babies And that she was really to sign his record deal right now! See who got the love and who met the end of their journey below.
The Good & The Great
Paul Jolley got critiqued by the judges who said he needs to be careful not to “over perform.” But he took a risk by singing a Keith Urban song in front of Keith himself, and overall it paid off.
Johnny Keyser – Keith called his performance “effortless” while Nicki called him “sexy.” Mariah even commented that she didn’t want to get in trouble with her husband...

It's another Sudden Death round tonight on American Idol. The first 10 of the Top 20 guys will have their chance to perform for the judges and at the end of the night, only 5 of them will be left standing. Or sitting, actually. In those really uncomfortable stool-chairs.
What wacky things will Nicki say? Will the judges need Jimmy to help them break a tie? Let's find out now...
Starting the night, Paul Jolley from Palmersville, Tennessee sings to honor his late grandfather. He takes a giant risk and takes on Keith Urban's "Tonight I Wanna Cry." It's a bit slow to be the first song of the night and he seems to struggle a little in some of his bigger, upper notes. Keith thanks Paul for singing one of his songs and says if he gets to go through, he doesn't have to push too hard. Nicki said other performances...

It's the guys' turn on "American Idol" -- 10 guys are whittled down to five tonight and the same thing happens next Thursday.
As the show kicks off, it's good to see Randy has earned himself a Rydell letterman sweater. Sandy is sure to like him now. We meet the 10 guys performing tonight and, much like last night, about half of the men we've never (or barely) seen up to now.
1. Paul Jolley, "Tonight I Wanna Cry," Keith Urban
It's ballsy to do a Mariah song, sure, but it also takes some guts to do a song by one of the other judges too. Vocally, this is nice. It's not blowing us away, but it's not off pitch or bad. Paul has some weird pronunciation things, swallowing some of his words. That's irksome, but just a weird quirk. Overall, not bad. He could lay off the runs a little. He's not...

If American Idol wanted to find its Season 12 winner via personal ad, the copy would probably read something like this:
Top-rated Reality Show Iso Big-voiced Diva | Been dreaming for six years now about discovering America’s next great female artist — though not the “current” type that looks and sounds like she spontaneously sprouted from the dark, moist corner of a dumpster. (Sorry, wannabe Ke$has!) Turn-ons include girl-next-door charm, working-class backstories and the ability to crush a glory note like The Rock slamming his fist down on an empty Diet Coke can. Turn-offs include pale-skinned males who’ve ever plucked a guitar,...

American Idol really, really wants a woman to win this season. At the beginning of Thursday's episode, they reminded us that a female singer hasn't won the show since 2007, when Jordin Sparks bested Blake Lewis for the top prize.
Let's put this into perspective: The last time a woman won, George W. Bush was still president, J.K. Rowling was still writing the Harry Potter series, and no one had any idea who Snooki was. Well, maybe a few people knew her.
After Ryan Seacrest all but begged us to vote for a female, we finally got to see the level of the women's talent.

Spoilers Ahead. If you haven’t seen tonight’s Idol, don’t read on.
Or maybe you did anyway. Hi! Honestly, that hour-long “girls solo round” episode did not totally deliver on Idol’s promise of a big Top 40 reveal. No names were shown at the end, and so many of the 20 guys and 20 guys remaining are people who have yet to be highlighted on the show! But anyway, here they are….

Amber Holcomb
Angela Miller (pictured)
Aubrey Cleland
Brandy Hotard

Thirty-nine talented young singers stand on the precipice of superstardom. And so does one kinda crazy chick who has only one drum stick (musical, not chicken) as well as the potential to turn American Idol bandleader Ray Chew’s job into the kind of situation that might pique renewed interest in a revival of Discovery Channel’s recently departed Dirty Jobs.
Yes indeed, tonight’s final installment of Season 12 Hollywood Week put the women through their final paces, narrowed their numbers to a lean 20, and — if the “we need a girl to win this year, Please!” intro is to be...

It's been a long and sometimes tear-filled journey for the men of American Idol. They've survived auditions, sudden death eliminations, Group Rounds, and tonight they'll sing their final solo number for the judges.
Who will be left standing? Let's find out now...
Cuts will be made after every 8th performance.
Leading off the solo round is Paul Jolley who's quite nervous. So nervous he nearly cries before he can even sing and Mariah has to remind him to breathe. He's not able to overcome his nerves and Nicki calls his lack of confidence a "turn off" and unprofessional.
Lazaro Arbos is the second to sing and chooses Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory." Curtis Finch, Jr., sings "Jar of Hearts" and his theatrics distract from what could be an otherwise interesting arrangement of the number.
From the first group, Lazaro, Paul, and Curtis all move on. We might only be...

What happens when a make-believe disaster meets a real-life disaster?
Every now and then, the subject matter of a major motion picture mirrors a situation in the real world, and a call must be made on how much art should imitate life before things get a bit sensitive.
Such a situation has occurred with "Battle: Los Angeles," a film that depicts a violent attack on California -- released on the same day a powerful tsunami threatened much of the West Coast (for real).
Following his appearance on MTV's "The Seven," Ne-Yo, who plays Corporal Kevin Harris in "Battle: L.A.," shared his thoughts with NextMovie on this rather bizarre timing. He hopes we can look beyond this unfortunate "life imitates art" situation.
"Tragedy is something we're forced to deal with, especially when it's a natural disaster, and unfortunately there's nothing we can do about that," Ne-Yo tells MTV Radio for NextMovie.

If you are into action and video games, then this is the movie for you… if you are looking for stellar acting or an amazing plot then you will be let down.
Battle: Los Angeles is the story of a pretty brutal attack on the Us, that showcases SSgt. Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) and his last mission in his military career. After 20 years he finally asks to be let go. They grant his wish, but when trouble strikes they make him stick around for just one more mission. He is placed under the the rank of 2nd Lt. William Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez) and their entire Marine platoon, as well as the rest of the military, is sent out to fight the unknown enemy that is attacking cities all over the globe and trying to wipe out the population.
What they don’t realize is that the attack is not from this Earth.

The film is set in modern day Los Angeles and follows a platoon of Marines and Airmen during a global alien invasion.

"As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine Staff Sergeant (Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before.
