Her last name was actually pronounced "Hahworth" but Americans simply couldn't get it right and she finally accepted it being pronounced "Hayworth" in the US.

Linked romantically in the 1960s for a number of years to her Exodus (1960) co-star Sal Mineo. She later blamed poor money management, not his homosexuality, for his downfall in Hollywood.

She died of natural causes in January 2011, at 65 years of age. She had done a voice-over several days previously for the New York City YMCA.

First film role was an unbilled part of a schoolgirl in the remake of The 39 Steps (1959).
