Time Cut is a sci-fi slasher horror film directed by Hannah MacPherson who also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Kennedy. The Netflix film follows a high school senior student and amateur inventor who accidentally finds a time machine and travels back to the year 2003 when an unknown killer killed her sister in hopes of saving her. Totally Killer is a slasher horror comedy film directed by Nahnatchka Khan from a screenplay co-written by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver, and Jen D’Angelo.

Mark Rosman‘s The House on Sorority Row (1982) and Stewart Hendler‘s Sorority Row (2009) feel shoved aside in their respective horror classes. Titles like Pieces, Black Christmas, and The Dorm That Dripped Blood get more frequent mentions when discussing pre-90s sorority or dormitory slashers. Remake debates rarely include Sorority Row in their reassessments of unfairly stigmatized 2000s horror revamps based on nostalgia biases (among other reasons). It’s interesting how both seem equally less popular despite their amassed cult followings after meager box office openings.

It’s almost like Hendler attempted to shake the original’s mojo by deeming Sorority Row an adaptation of Rosman’s screenplay Seven Sisters — the earlier iteration of what would become The House on Sorority Row. For several years now, two of the most financially successful film franchises have been the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Michael Bay’s Transformers series. Those films have cumulatively earned $10.2 billion and $3.8 billion, respectively. So one can’t really blame the folks over at Mattel and Dolphin Entertainment for hoping to combine the superhero storytelling of the former with the built-in appeal of a long-running toy line. Unfortunately, Max Steel reveals just how ill-conceived this approach is in telling an effective story.

Max Steel hits theaters October 14th, and the new trailer offers up a film that feels, perhaps appropriately, like a throwback.

In an age when audiences find themselves forced into conflict over their response to the endless reboots, sequels of long-dead franchises, and adaptations that ultimately make no sense (because things like The Lego Movie come along and blow them away), Max Steel still might not be the toy you were expecting to see on the big screen.

There may be a lot of reasons for that, including the fact that the line of toys doesn’t seem to take up half an aisle at your local store, and that the original TV show came out in 2000 (with a direct-to-video movie coming out almost every year since, until the show’s reboot in 2013), but the name isn’t in heavy rotation on any of the channels your kids force you to watch.

Open Road Films and Mattel have released the first domestic trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Max Steel. The movie is based on Mattle's action figure line and animated series from the late '90s/early 2000s. This latest trailer is a lot better than the last international trailer that was released about a week ago. That thing was a mess, but this one is cut together so much better. You actually get a sense of what is going on and what the film is about. That being said, I'm still not sold on Max Steel. That first trailer left a bad taste in my mouth. I need to see more.

Mattel action figure and superhero Max Steel gets his first feature film this year. Here's the first trailer to prove it...

If such disparate movies as Robosapien, Battleship and Jem And The Holograms have anything in common, it's that they all prove that not every movie based on a toy or board game can be a roaring success like Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Bay's robot action movies may be bullet-proof when it comes to reviews, but audiences don't always turn out in huge numbers to see a film based on a familiar name. 

This might explain why, following a development period which began way back in 2009, the marketing for Max Steel feels rather apologetic. Based on Mattel's 90s line of action figures, the movie's an origin story about Max McGrath (Ben Winchell), a young man with extraordinary powers of speed and strength.

After years of rumors, false starts and uncertainty, it’s finally been confirmed that the live-action adaptation of Mattel’s well-known toy line will soon arrive in theaters. The project has been in one stage of development or another dating back to 2009, when Taylor Lautner of “Twilight” fame was attached to star. He left the project the following year for a “Stretch Armstrong” movie that has yet to materialize, and “Max Steel” now stars Ben Winchell ias Max McGrath — a teenager who literally joins forces with an alien named Steel to create the superheroic entity of the title. In this age of blockbuster superhero adaptations like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s refreshing to see a movie in the genre with a little more modest ambitions. We have some new photos from Open Road Films' Max Steel for you to check out today thanks to Collider. I have to say I've been impressed with what I've seen from this movie. This is one of the films that could have easily ended up looking terrible, but these images show off something that could prove to be really cool.

The movie is based on the Mattel action figure and animated series on Disney Xd. Director Stewart Hendler wrapped production last month in Wilmington, North Carolina, and we should be getting our first trailer soon, as the movie has a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The movie stars Ben Winchell (Disney’s A.N.T. Farm, Necessary Roughness), and apparently he trained for 6 to 8 hours a day studying parkour, martial arts, boxing, and fencing to prepare for the role.

Open Road Films has released some new photos from their upcoming live-action film "Max Steel" starring Ben Winchell, Ana Villafañe and Andy Garcia.

The film is directed by Stewart Hendler from a screenplay written by Christopher Yost.

Created internally by Mattel, the Max Steel franchise spans multi-platform entertainment, toys and consumer products. The high-octane story centers on teenager Max McGrath and his alien companion Steel, who combine special turbo-energy powers to become the superhero Max Steel. The film provides audiences with the first new superhero in decades, bringing a positive and relatable hero to audiences of all ages, while combining action and adventure  with teamwork, laughter and friendship.

Given that the film doesn’t even have a release date yet, and that it just started rolling cameras in Wilmington, North Carolina, a few months back, it’s more than a little odd to be seeing images from Max Steel, a live-action adaptation of the Mattel action toy and its accompanying Disney Xd series, this early on. Regardless, we’re not complaining. The first shots from the movie look quite intriguing, and I’ll be interested to see more as production continues.

Dolphin Films announced (13) that the actress has signed on to play Molly McGrath, the resilient single mother of protagonist Max McGrath in Dolphin Films’ upcoming Mattel adaptation.

Fledgling division Dolphin Films International and Im Global are handling international sales through their multi-year partnership and Open Road plans a wide Us release.

Bello joins a cast that includes Andy Garcia as the mysterious scientist Dr Miles Edwards, Ben Winchell as Max McGrath and Ana Villafañe as Sofia Martinez.

Looks like Mattel has been paying attention to what Hasbro has done with its Transformers and G.I. Joe toys- turning them into multi-million dollar movie franchises- and it wants a piece of the pie. We all ready know that they're trying to get a new adaptation of Masters of The Universe off the ground, featuring He-Man and his friends, but now they're also trying to get something going with their Max Steel character. After an ambitious relaunch in 2013, turning the toy into a multi-platform brand with games, merchandise, and publishing, they got the ball rolling on a feature film. They hired Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World) to write it, and they've got Stewart Hendler in the director's chair. Now word has come out that they've landed Andy Garcia.

Lead actor Winchell, who starred in the Disney shows A.N.T. Farm and Necessary Roughness, will play Max McGrath, the boy who teams up with his alien companion Steel to become the titular hero.

The freshly minted Dolphin Films International will launch at the Efm next month and kick off sales on the Mattel property through its new multi-year partnership with Im Global.

We know that Christopher Yost wrote the script and that Stewart Hendler will direct, but now The Tracking Board reckon the following actors are testing for the male and female lead roles. Noah Silver (The Borgias), Ben Winchell (Necessary Roughness) and Dylan Minnette (Prisoners, Lost) are testing to play Max. For the undisclosed female role there's Skyler Day (Parenthood, Ironside) and Skyler Samuels (The Nine Lives of Chloe King, The Gates).
