- Served in the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II; is buried at Arlington National Cemetery (Section 7, Site 8094).
- The husky, darkly handsome actor who bore a slight resemblance to Clark Gable appeared in a number of leading man roles on Broadway, notably opposite Lenore Ulric in "Pagan Lady".

The Senator's family claimed he was a fraud and exposed his lie.
- A drinking problem effectively ended his career in the mid-'40s and his health rapidly declined. He entered the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles suffering from cancer of the mouth, right adrenal and kidney and died there of pneumonia.
- Attended the University of Alabama and studied law at George Washington University until changing his course of career to acting and performing with stock companies in Pittsburgh.
