She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television at 6621 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on January 29, 2014.

When a nephew was born with cerebral palsy, she contacted United Cerebral Palsy for answers and resources. Over time, she became involved with UCP and has used her celebrity status to help elevate its visibility. Hines serves on the Board of Trustees of United Cerebral Palsy. She and her family won $25,000 for UCP on the July 12, 2015 episode of Celebrity Family Feud (2008).

Acted as the "victim" in the Psycho Soundstage Attraction (now the Shrek 4-D Soundstage) at Universal Studios Orlando while attending the University of Central Florida.

On August 2, 2014, she married for the second time her boyfriend of two years Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following a three-month-long engagement. They said "I do" before a cheering crowd of friends and family at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Massachusetts - under a tent at a home once owned by President John F. Kennedy and wife Jackie. Hines wore a white strapless tea-length gown by Romona Keveza for the ceremony, which took place during the family's annual reunion. Besides many Kennedys, other guests, according to People magazine's sources, included Larry David, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Senator Ed Markey, Kevin Nealon and Ed Begley Jr..

Has six stepchildren: Robert Francis Kennedy III (born September 2, 1984), Kathleen Alexandra Kennedy (born April 13, 1988), Conor Richard Kennedy (born July 24, 1994), Kyra LeMoyne Kennedy (born August 22, 1995), William Finbar Kennedy (born November 8, 1997) and Aiden Caohman Vieques Kennedy (born July 13, 2001).
