Christian Hoffman(I)
- Director
- Editor
- Producer
At a young age Christian Hoffman was told by a psychic that he would grow up to do "miraculous things!"
That psychic lied.
Christian Hoffman is an Editor/Director/Producer, known for such shows as Reno 911!, Workaholics and Key & Peele. Christian has 2 Emmy Nominations, but NO wins.
For Halloween as a 10 yr old, Christian along with his good friend T.R. borrowed T.R.'s sister's cheer uniforms and paraded as cheerleaders. It was a roaring success as parents found the costumes "hilarious", and the night scored the young lads each a pillowcase full of candy. It was the "Greatest Halloween Ever!"
In 1986 after watching Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun, Christian decided being a fighter pilot looked fun and pretty damn cool. But then, in 1988 after watching Tom Cruise in Cocktail, he decided that being a bottle spinning bartender with a killer smile looked even cooler. Torn between, fighter pilot and bottle spinning bartender, he instead decided to attend the University of Maryland at College Park. There he learned things, watched mediocre sports and met good friends who were pretty damn cool and also very funny. Using his sense of humor and his mom's Hi8 video camera, Christian shot and edited sketches for his friends to enjoy. They were a big hit!
After graduating he packed up a U-Haul and headed to San Diego, CA (German for whale's vagina) to pursue his dream of being a filmmaker. Quickly he learned that they don't make movies in San Diego but they do surf... a lot. Soon after he made his way up the 5 freeway to Los Angeles, where he he taught himself to shoot film, purchasing a 16mm Bolex camera, which he used to shoot his first music video for his friends' band, the video was featured on MTV's 120 Minutes as one of the Best Indie Videos of 1998. Christian parlayed his new found directing success into working as a production assistant on music video sets:( Bored and in search of some character building life experiences, Christian decided to take a series of odd jobs, including a job selling adult videos over the phone to video store managers. Before long it grossed him out and the novelty wore off, so Christian took a job as an assistant editor on a MTV animated show. Working at night, the job did not require much of him, so without solicitation he would record funny voices that he cut into the edit to amuse himself and confuse others.
Later that year his talents became apparent to a producer at MTV and he was offered a job as an editor. After reaching the pinnacle of success at MTV (having worked on the early seasons of PUNK'D;) he was hired to work on Reno 911!, where he learned the art of improv comedy. From there he worked on the hit sketch show, Human Giant (Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer). Christian went on to work on all 6 seasons of Workaholics and the first 4 seasons of Key & Peele garnishing a Emmy Nomination along the way, after his eventual loss he was quoted as saying "It was just an honor to be nominated!". In 2019 Reno 911! was rebooted by the iconic Hollywood studio, Quibi. Unlike Reno 911!, Quibi's flame burned fast yet dim. He went on to edit, direct, and produce 2 additional seasons as well as a pair of films for the long lasting franchise.
Christian is also known for his ability to "fix" projects that are under-performing. Leaning on his 80 years of experience, Christian is able to restructure character and story while squeezing out the funny.
When not working you can often find Christian sunbathing - nude - in his front lawn, even on brisk days.
