One of the first rules Neil Cross gave his team when making Iris, the new thriller series he created for Sky U.K., was that the lead character should never drive a car with a roof. “If Grace Kelly wouldn’t drive it, neither should Iris,” says Cross, laughing.

After spending years in the grime of East London making Luther, the dark cop drama starring Idris Elba as a homicide detective with some very nasty personal demons, Cross was ready for something light and sunny. With Iris, which “to create a different kind of show… something my wife and I could enjoy with a glass of wine on the sofa.”

Iris exchanges Luther‘s cold and cloudy London for a sun-drenched Italian countryside — the show was shot largely in Sardina — and takes inspiration from the British spy and adventure shows of Cross’ youth, think The Saint or The Persuaders!, for its chase thriller plot line.

Fremantle is readying to unleash ‘Sandokan’ onto industry insiders during next week’s London TV Screenings.

“It’s simply a great epic adventure, based on a known IP. It’s ‘Poldark’ meets ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’,” enthuses CEO Commercial and International Jens Richter, promising action, adventure and some good old-fashioned pirating.

Starring Can Yaman (“Daydreamer”), Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”) and John Hannah (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), it’s based on the series of novels by Emilio Salgari and produced by Fremantle’s Italian content powerhouse Lux Vide. Set in the mid-1800s, it heads to a place inhabited by native Dayak tribes yet dominated by British law. Sandokan is used to fighting for his survival, but one thing catches him by surprise: love.

“There’s a portion of romance,” admits Richter. With each episode set in a different environment, “Sandokan” will “fit the needs of the market perfectly,” he adds.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story has proven to be another success for Ryan Murphy, so work has now been rolling on the third season of the Monsters series for the big streamer. It was announced somewhat recently that Charlie Hunnam would star in Monsters season 3 as Ed Gein, and Netflix has revealed that Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams will be joining him. Laurie Metcalf will play Augusta Wilhelmine Gein, Ed Gein’s mother, while Tom Hollander will play iconic director Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams will play Alma Reville, Alfred’s wife.

Deadline is now reporting that season 3 has now added actress Suzanna Son, known for Red Rocket and HBO’s The Idol, as a series regular. Per Deadline, “Son is a trained pianist, dancer and vocalist who made her acting debut opposite Simon Rex in Sean Baker’s Red Rocket, which was released in theaters by A24.

“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong has found his next project: an original movie for HBO Films.

The seven-time Emmy winner is teaming up with “Succession” executive producer Frank Rich for the project, which is said to focus on four friends who convene during a dramatic international financial crisis, Variety has confirmed. Both Armstrong and Frank are under overall deals at HBO.

Television nominees for the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards were announced on Thursday, and FX’s acclaimed drama Shōgun led the pack with six total nominations.

In the lead overall is the Emmy-winning FX series “Shōgun” with six nominations including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for producer/star Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series — a category it was left out of at the Emmys — for Moeka Hoshi.

The Critics Choice Association has announced its TV nominees for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards.

Shogun leads with six nominations, including best drama series, followed by Abbott Elementary, Disclaimer, Hacks, The Diplomat, The Penguin and What We Do In the Shadows, which all each garnered four nominations.

The most nominations for a platform came with Netflix’s 23, with HBO/Max finishing closely behind with 21. FX (including FX on Hulu) had 20.

The first season of FX’s Emmy-winning juggernaut “Shōgun” continued its roll through awards season on Thursday, leading all programs in nominations for the television categories of the Critics Choice Awards.

The series, set in 17th-century Japan, earned a new Emmy record by winning 18 awards in one season, receiving six nominations from the Critics Choice nominating committees. “Abbott Elementary,” “Disclaimer,” “Hacks,” “The Diplomat,” “The Penguin” and “What We Do in the Shadows” tied for second with four nominations each.

In the Best Drama Series category, “Shōgun” will be going up against “The Day of the Jackal,” “The Diplomat,” “Evil,” “Industry,” “Interview With the Vampire,” “The Old Man” and “Slow Horses.”

Comedy series nominees are “Abbott Elementary,” “English Teacher,” “Hacks,” “Nobody Wants This,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Somebody Somewhere,” “St. Denis Medical” and “What We Do in the Shadows.”

Charlie Hunnam will play one of America’s most known serial killers in the upcoming third season of Netflix’s anthology series “Monster,” providing viewers with a disturbing insight into Ed Gein’s life.

First-look photos show Hunnam’s stunning change. He recreates Gein’s 1950s demeanor with period-appropriate attire and a gray-tinted haircut. The actor walks comfortably on a city sidewalk, conversing with a police officer, his faint smile indicating the character’s depth.

The new season, titled “Monster: The Original Monster,” will delve into Gein’s dark past, concentrating on a criminal who captured the public imagination decades before true crime became a popular interest. While legally charged with two murders, Gein’s most heinous acts included grave robbing and body desecration—a legacy of horror that inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s famous film “Psycho.”

Hunnam is joined by a strong cast who add dimension to the historical narrative.

The ten-episode series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (read our review Here) was such a huge success for the Netflix streaming service back in 2022 that Netflix ordered two more seasons of the show from its creators, Ian Brennan and American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was recently released, and has had quite an impact on the real lives of the title characters… and right before that season premiered in September, it was announced that Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam had signed on to play murderer and graverobber Ed Gein in Monster season 3. As it turns out, Monster season 3 (which is apparently called The Original Monster) was very close to starting production when that announcement was made, because Hunnam has now been spotted on the set of the show in his Gein wardrobe!

A new image from the set of Monster season 3 reveals the first look at Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as the infamous serial killer Ed Gein. Following the big success of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which debuted on Netflix in September, it was announced that season 3 would focus on the killer Ed Gein. The third installment of the true-crime anthology is currently titled The Original Monster, with a supporting cast that so far includes Laurie Metcalf as Ed Geins mother, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Alma Hitchcock.

AHS Zone shared a photo of Hunnam on X, which appears to show the actor smiling on the set of the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan-created anthology. The photo is accompanied by a real-life, black-and-white image of Gein. In the set photo, Hunnam looks somewhat aged. He has short, gray hair which is combed over.

Additional casting has been announced for the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's Monster anthology series. Netflix has revealed that Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams will join Charlie Hunnam in the series.

Hunnam will play serial killer Ed Gein. It was revealed that Metcalf will play Ed’s mother, Augusta Gein. Hollander will portray legendary director Alfred Hitchcock, and Williams will play his wife, Alma Hitchcock.

The trio join the previously announced Charlie Hunnam who wakes on the role of Ed Gein, the man who served as one of the inspirations for Norman Bates and Hitchcock’s film ‘Psycho.’ It is reported that Metcalf will play Gein’s mother, Augusta, while Hollander will play Alfred Hitchcock and Williams will play Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife.

Following the unprecedented viewership success of Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story with its release on Netflix in September 2022, the streaming service renewed the controversial anthology series about infamous killers received a renewal for not one but two more seasons.

The first installment of that two-season pickup arrived two years later in September 2024 with the premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Staying in line with the previous offering, the new series centered on the Menendez brothers has already received criticism for its portrayals of the story and some creative decisions that were made.

As for the second installment of the two-season pickup, Netflix has officially named Ed Gein as the new monster at the center of season 3, and Ryan Murphy revealed the season will be titled The Original Monster. While details about the upcoming Monster season 3 are still coming in, here's what fans should know so far!

The real life serial killer who inspired classic cinema villains including Norman Bates, Leatherface and Buffalo Bill, Ed Gein will be the subject of the third season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series “Monster,” and Variety brings us casting news this week.

Laurie Metcalf will play Ed Gein’s mother Augusta, while Tom Hollander is Alfred Hitchcock and Olivia Williams plays Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife.

Hitchcock of course directed Psycho, whose main character was based on Ed Gein and his horrific crimes. It seems “Monster” Season 3 will explore Gein’s connection to Hollywood.
