James is an Irish actor with an international appeal . His versatility has seen him cast as everything from a homeless man to King Louis XV of France, and his enigmatic screen presence makes him sought after by creatives. He began his path with an English degree from University College Cork, after which he traveled , to gain life experience. Consequently James started acting later than his contemporaries; to begin with a few Shakespeare plays in Dublin and not long after, 4 star reviews in the Edinburgh theatre festival. He also produced and acted in a UK premiere of a Steppenwolf/Chicago play in London's West End in 2008.
James's first screen role was in a film by Patrick & Paula Bergin based on W.B. Yeats, "The Countess Cathleen" . Followed by the Irish series "Ballykissangel" in an episode with Colin Farrell, who years later did the voiceover for "Legend of Cambia" that James appeared in. James appeared as Ralph Morice , a role written for him, in the critically acclaimed costume drama "The Tudors" for Showtime and then in the History channel's "Vikings" , followed by Titanic: Blood & Steel for Netflix, all shot in Ireland.
He moved to London for some time where he appeared in several drama series for the BBC and with his languages he was able to expand his work field into Europe with French TV series "Versailles", "Jappeloup" and Luc Besson's feature film, "Valerian & the city of a thousand planets", and more recently French language "Three Musketeers", starring Eva Green and Vincent Cassel, for Pathé. In Germany he worked on "Girl you know it's true" , directed by Simon Verhoeven, &" Maedchen I'm Eis", to name a few and Czech production" Masaryk", which premiered at the 2016 Biennale and took 12 golden lion awards.
James recently played his first on screen American role in the feature "Eddie & Sunny" directed by Desmond Devenish for Paradox studios and in "Bonhoeffer" , by Todd Komarnicki, a real life story about Dietrich Bonhoeffer who spoke truth to power in an attempt to save countless Jewish lives during the Third Reich.
