María Hernández(XIV)
- Music Department
María Hernández was born in the particularly musical Mixtecan region of Oaxaca, Mexico, where her first influences in music started with local traditional music. She became cinephile at the age of 15 and naturally got interested in the role of music in film, its functions and how it creates experiences through atmospheres.
At the age of 18, María moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to complete the degree in Music Production and Artistic Development. She also took Modal Harmony classes with Álvaro Rosales, a Berklee College of Music graduate composer. At the moment, she is working in her thesis called "Cuando la Música Cuenta en Soledad: La Música Como Herramienta de Narración" (When Music Counts in Solitude: Music as a Storytelling Tool), in which she demonstrates the efficacy of instrumental music as a narrative component by telling the story of the novel "Cien Años de Soledad" (One Hundred Years of Solitude 1967) by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez.
In the beginning of 2022, María began working with film music composer Mario Osuna as his assistant helping him making the sheet music and producing the recording sessions for the Mexican feature film "Lecciones para canallas (2022)" (Lessons for Scoundrels) which was released nationwide in Autumn 2022
