Ninjas have never been out of vogue but between last year’s Turtles animated feature “Mutant Mayhem” and the recently-released Netflix series “House of Ninjas,” it’s fair to say they’re having a moment.

“Supernova,” a romance starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci as a longtime couple on a road trip, has inked a raft of early distribution deals after having just wrapped a six-week shoot in England’s scenic Lake District.

The Bureau Sales has sold Harry Macqueen’s new feature to territories including the U.K. (Studiocanal), Germany and Austria (Weltkino), Japan (Culture Entertainment), Benelux (Cineart), Taiwan (Catchplay), Penny Black (Airlines) and Scandinavia (Scanbox). The Bureau Sales will shop the film further at Afm next month.

The movie marks actor Macqueen’s second feature as a director following his highly regarded debut, “Hinterland,” in 2014. “Supernova” centers on Sam (Firth) and Tusker (Tucci), partners of 20 years, who are traveling across England in their old Rv visiting friends, family and places from their past. Since Tusker was diagnosed with early-onset dementia two years ago, their time together is the most important thing they have.

Star Wars Resistance is the new animated series set in the galaxy far, far away. The show follows Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Resistance features Bb-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters, and appearances by Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

Dave Filoni, exec producer and director of both The Clone Wars and Rebels, created Resistance. In true Filoni fashion, the series has its own unique art style. Resistance is "anime-inspired."

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” Filoni said in a press release.

Pride has emerged as the big winner at the Moët British Independent Film Awards.

The gay activist drama took home three gongs at last night's Old Billingsgate ceremony, picking up Best British Independent Film, Best Supporting Actress for Imelda Staunton and Best Supporting Actor for Andrew Scott.

'71's Yann Demange bagged the Best Director prize, Gugu Mbatha-Raw won Best Actress for Belle and Brendan Gleeson took home Best Actor for Calvary.

Elsewhere, special prizes were handed out to Emma Thompson (Richard Harris Award), John Boorman (Special Jury Prize) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Variety Award).

A glittering array of talent turned out this evening for the 17th Moët British Independent Film Awards. The winners were announced at the star-studded ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate, which was hosted by The Inbetweeners star, Simon Bird.

The lucky winners took home the iconic award designed by Fredrikson Stallard and created by Swarovski as well as a personalised, Swarovski crystal encrusted magnum of Moët & Chandon.

Best British Independent Film was won by Pride. Yann Demange won Best Director for ’71, Gugu Mbatha-Raw won Best Actress for Belle and Brendan Gleeson won Best Actor for Calvary. Andrew Scott collected his award for Best Supporting Actor for Pride and Imelda Staunton took home her award for Best Supporting Actress also for her role in Pride.

Pride won the most awards on the night, picking up Best British Independent Film, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor.

The nominations for the 17th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards were announced recently, at St Martins Lane, London by actor Jared Harris .

The highest number of nominations this year goes to "‘71" with nine nominations including Best British Independent Film; Best Director and Debut Director for Yann Demange; Best Screenplay for Gregory Burke; Best Actor for Jack O’Connell and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Harris. "Pride" picked up seven nominations and "Catch me Daddy,""Frank," and "Mr Turner" picked up five nominations each.

The Pre-Selection Committee of over 70 members viewed a record breaking 250 plus films this year, out of which they selected the nominations, which were decided by ballot.

The winners of The Moët British Independent Film Awards are decided by an independent jury comprised of leading professionals and talent from the British film industry.

It was also announced that the Oscar® and BAFTA - winning Director Tom Hopper, whose film "The King’s Speech" picked up five awards, including Best British Independent Film at the 2010 Moët British Independent Film Awards, will chair the Jury who will decide the winners of the 2014 awards.

Hooper commented: "I am honoured to preside over the Moët Bifa jury this year. It has been an extremely strong year for filmmaking here in Britain and I am looking forward to helping the very best of this year's independent films, get the recognition they deserve."

Yann Demange’s anti-war parable ’71 has scored a leading nine nominations for the 17th Moët British Independent Film Awards. The director’s debut feature, which premiered in Berlin last February, is named in the major categories and also scooped a Best Actor mention for Jack O’Connell who’s next up in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. 3K Pictures announces today that director Sam Kadi.s debut drama The Citizen will have its North American Premiere at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, October 22nd at the AMC Castleton Square 14 theater at 7:15pm. 3K Pictures announces today that veteran sales agent Cassian Elwes is handling all North American rights to director Sam Kadi.s debut political drama The Citizen. The film was produced by Kadi, Chris Wyatt (Napoleon Dynamite) and Alan Noel Vega, with Ameer Kabour executive producing. The film is currently scheduled to screen for distributors during the Toronto Film Festival.

The Citizen tells the story of an Arab immigrant named Ibrahim (Khaled Nabawy from Fair Game) who wins the American green card lottery, arriving in New York City on September 10th, 2001. In addition to Nabawy, the film’s cast includes Agnes Bruckner (Blood And Chocolate), William Atherton (Ghostbusters) and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride).

There was a time when musicals were relegated to replays of the classics -- usually tales of romance belted out on stage or screen. But in the wake of adaptations like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Evil Dead: The Musical, just about anything and everything is getting the musical treatment -- so much so that I wonder how long it will take for us to break out into our own musical numbers, like a demon-free Once More, With Feeling.
