While Rep. Mike Turner (R-oh) said definitively Sunday that he “will bet on Kevin McCarthy any day” amid the Republican House Speaker’s struggle to wrangle enough votes from his party to fund the federal government and stave off a government shutdown next month, one of Turner’s colleagues took a different approach.
“I wouldn’t bet on Kevin McCarthy,” Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-tx) said on CBS Face the Nation, “but I also wouldn’t bet against him.”
Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales: "I wouldn't bet on Kevin McCarthy, but I also wouldn't bet against him.

It’s not often you get to see a version of the “Can I copy your homework?” meme play out in real time, but that’s exactly what’s just happened: The New York Times has released a brand-new game, Connections, in which you have to find four connecting groups of four items in a grid:

BBC Presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell Accuses New York Times Of Cloning Her Cult Quiz ‘Only Connect’
She’s turned her seemingly esoteric quiz into one of the UK’s most beloved game shows, and now Victoria Coren Mitchell has accused The New York Times of copying the format.
The presenter said a newly-launched Times quiz, titled Connections, bears a striking similarity to Only Connect, the BBC show she has fronted since 2008.
In Connections, players must group words that share a comment thread. Only Connect, meanwhile, tasks contestants with making connections between apparently unconnected things.
Wyna Liu, the Times‘ Associate Puzzles Editor, tweeted about the launch of Connections on Monday. On Friday, Coren Mitchell replied: “Do you know this has been a TV show in the UK since 2008 ?! It’s so similar I guess you must do?”

Geo Bustamante couldn’t have been more excited to have secured himself the Knowledge Is Power advantage on “Survivor 43,” despite what he already (sorta) knew to be true: it’s a curse! Upon getting the advantage in Episode 5 he said, “This is what I came here for! I came to ‘Survivor’ to get an idol or to get an advantage. I’ve never seen anybody use the Knowledge Is Power successfully, but it’s a very powerful tool.” He went on to say he’d save it because he was certain he wouldn’t be voted out that night. Less than 15 minutes later, Geo was the fifth person voted out of the game.
With Geo’s finding of the advantage and subsequent elimination, he became the third of three players to hold the Knowledge Is Power advantage and not use it successfully. For Geo, finding the advantage wasn’t the curse,...

Wednesday night on CBS, Jeff Probst officially lit the torch on the 43rd season of “Survivor.” Just like the last two cycles, this year’s crop of 18 contestants have been divided into three tribes and come from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. In Wednesday’s two-hour premiere, viewers met the new castaways and found out who had the unfortunate title of being the first person voted off the island.

John Oliver had a pretty good laugh at GOP Rep. Mike Turner on Sunday night, after the Ohio representative seemed to be having a physical reluctance to defend Donald Trump over the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago last week, insisting that “classified” doesn’t always actually mean “classified.”
“I am not going to speculate or jump to conclusions here, because there is still so much that we don’t know,” Oliver noted. “But many seem more than happy to do that this week, with multiple Republicans liking the FBI to the Gestapo, Fox News trolling through the Facebook feed of the judge who approved the warrant and showing a meme of his face on Jeffrey Epstein’s body and, still, others preemptively minimizing what Trump may have done.”
At that, Oliver brought up footage of Turner, speaking to press on the matter and explaining that “there are a number of...

With “Survivor 43” returning to our screens this fall, we wanted to know what you think about the advantages, twists and challenges currently at play in “Survivor” and which, if any, should stick around for the upcoming season. Both season 41 and 42 broke new ground for the 20+ year old reality TV staple by upending the expectations of the players. In the post-pandemic iterations of the show, Jeff Probst revealed new aspects to a game the players thought they knew. We asked you to vote on your favorites in a recent poll and you spoke loud and clear that the Knowledge Is Power advantage and the Shot in the Dark opportunity are the two you most want to see return in season 43.

Few TV shows make it to Season 43. For every “60 Minutes” (54 seasons) and “Saturday Night Live” (47 seasons), there are hundreds, if not thousands, of television programs that are canceled or ended before they even make it to double digits. But “Survivor” just keeps going. Now the granddaddy of all reality TV shows is gearing up for its 43rd season (and 22nd year), due out in Fall 2022, with Jeff Probst back as host and executive producer. The most recent season, “Survivor 42,” was so captivating, it proves why the series deserves to reclaim its time in the Emmy spotlight.
In a “Survivor” first, a contestant was medically evacuated from the Season 42 premiere when he failed to disclose certain medical information until the day before shooting began. The castaway in question, Jackson Fox, admitted in a candid Q&a with host Probst that he didn’t mention his lithium usage because he was...

We’re only a few weeks out from the “Survivor 42” finale where Maryanne Oketch clinched the 1 million prize arguably because of her Final Tribal Council revelation that she had kept the only secret in the game truly a secret: her unused hidden immunity idol. Jaws dropped on the jury and the players that may have otherwise been inclined to vote for Mike Turner to win instead chose Maryanne as the “sole Survivor.” Now, as we forward look to “Survivor 43” this fall, we want to know what you think about the advantages, twists and challenges currently at play in “Survivor” and which, if any, should stick around for the upcoming season.

Marvel Studios’ Founding Chairman David Maisel is going to attempt to build two more cinematic universes. A year ago he teamed up with music industry executive Scooter Braun to launch Mythos Studios, and they purchased a controlling stake in Aspen Comics, which is the publisher founded by comic artist Michael Turner.
They plan on taking Turner’s original intellectual properties and building an animated cinematic universe out of them. They are calling that universe the TurnerVerse. These will be big event-sized animated films that tell an ongoing story over the course of multiple films.
The first two projects being produced in the TurnerVerse are Fathom and Soulfire. The two films are being developed by Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander, the directors of Netflix’s Next Gen. The screenplay for Fathom is being written by Kristin Gore (Saturday Night Live and Futurama), the daughter of Vice President Al Gore. The story centers around Aspen Matthews,...

Mythos Studios, the big-ambition animation studio established last year by Marvel Studios Founding Chairman David Maisel and Sb Projects founder Scooter Braun, announced the creative teams leading the company’s first three feature films: Cupid, starring pop superstar Justin Bieber; Fathom, an undersea superhero epic; and Soulfire, the saga of an orphaned boy who is heir to ancient magic.
Work has actually been underway on all three films at the Los Angeles production offices of Mythos since February. No target release dates or production timetables have been announced. The creative teams, listed by project:
Cupid: Music video veteran Pete Candeland will direct the animated musical about the famed god of desire from classical mythology and stars the previously announced Bieber as the voice of the headstrong winged archer whose parents are Venus the goddess of love, and Mars, the war deity. Mythos Studios, the year-old content venture from Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and manager-mogul Scooter Braun, announced Thursday the group of creatives who are overseeing three films in pre-production.
Foremost is “Cupid,” the first film in a planned universe based on Greek and Roman mythology. The titular matchmaker, to be voiced by Justin Bieber, will be directed by celebrated music video helmer and commercial animator Pete Candeland (of the beloved Gorillaz videos).
The narrative tells of Cupid and his love interest Psyche, developed for the screen by Carlos Kotkin (“Rio 2”) from a story adaptation by Maisel. Psyche, still uncast, is human royalty whose beauty intimidates Cupid’s mom Aphrodite.
The late Michael Turner, a comic creator and artist who worked with DC and Marvel, is most noted for his earliest and solo creations. Two of those, “Fathom” and “Soulfire,” are in productions as complimenting features that will move...

A year after its launch, Mythos Studios, the fledgling company led by Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and record executive Scooter Braun, on Thursday revealed it is in active development on three animated features.
Taking a page out of a playbook Maisel used when he was Marvel's top exec, Mythos hopes to create cinematic universes for animated fare while also event-sizing stories and attracting more sophisticated and global audiences. One of its early steps was taking an ownership stake in Aspen Comics, controlling entertainment rights to its intellectual property, including the works of deceased comics superstar Michael Turner.

Even though the awesomeness that was Crisis on Earth-x is still fresh in our memory, many of us have been left pondering what the fifth attempt at an Arrowverse mashup will bring next season. After all, our heroes have already had to contend with the likes of Vandal Savage, the Dominators and Nazi doppelgangers from a parallel universe, so what else could the future possibly hold?
Personally, I’d like to see them bring in Darkseid because, let’s face it, it’s highly doubtful that we’ll ever see him in a movie now that Justice League bombed at the box office. Seriously, with him having such a history with Kryptonians in other forms of media, it’d be cool to see the producers of these shows borrow from the work of Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner, thus allowing the Lord of Apokolips to corrupt Supergirl.
