One morning last fall, Luke Laird was eating breakfast and listening to one of his favorite Apple Music playlists, Honky-Tonk Essentials. When Webb Pierce’s 1953 hit “There Stands the Glass” started playing, Laird had a strange thought.

“I was like man, ‘What if I made a beat and sample that?’” he thought to himself.

After breakfast, he recorded a crude 13-second voice memo in a Nashville parking lot, in which the hit songwriter (“Pontoon,” “Drink in My Hand”) hummed the melody of Pierce’s chorus while beatboxing a rough sketch of a beat.

In December 2017, Willie Jones was in a recording studio in Los Angeles, freestyling about his family. Jones had just spent his holidays at home in his native Shreveport, Louisiana, and at a family reunion in Tulsa and had been touched by the occasions — by how much his cousins from childhood had grown up, how close he’d felt to relatives he hadn’t seen in years.

Moving can be a real pain. Finding that perfect house can be an even bigger inconvenience. Well, if I ever had any sort of informal education from horror movies, I’ve learned two fundamental truths. There’s gonna be trouble if hooking up with a beautiful woman is effortlessly easy, or if you run across a seemingly sweet real estate property at a ridiculously low price. I’ll go a bit further and say that said real estate property is probably going to be a murder house inhabited by a vengeful spirit with some serious emotional baggage. I would almost bet the farm on it.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that The Wrong House is yet another “in the woods” slasher flick given the generic DVD box art (which is decidedly similar to 101 Films’ previous release The Lodge) and the films desolate cabin in the woods setting. However instead we get a thrilling haunted house flick that shares more in common with 2003′s Dead End than you’d at first think.

Originally titled House Hunting, the film see two families, led by The Beastmaster himself Marc Singer and character actor Art Lafleur, in town searching for a new home, who both show up at a deserted farmhouse. After rescuing Hanna, a lost girl whose tongue has been cut out, it quickly becomes clear that something is not right as they discover...

The American dream once again becomes the American scream when two families looking to buy a new home attend an open house only to find themselves trapped in a hellish nightmare unleashed by the wrathful spirit of the original owner.

For a movie about a real-estate bargain that turns out to be far too good to be true, it seems perversely appropriate you have to forgive a lot - I mean a lot - to get into The Wrong House (a.k.a. House Hunting). Eric Hurt's low-budget American horror story comes with a litany of caveats that are almost objectively bad, bad, embarrassingly bad, from a dull, mawkish script to a cast who don't know what to do with it half the time to amateurish direction and effects. It sounds like the pitch for some godawful Dtv piece of torture porn, and the prologue seems as if it's headed there at full throttle with Hurt counting up the ancillary revenues all the way.And then slowly but...

The Beastmaster goes berserk in this stunning trailer for supernatural horror flick, House Hunting! The indie thriller originally caught my attention for three reasons. First, its premise of two families caught in a house that won't let them leave offered an intriguing old-school premise. Second, it's got a pretty odd ensemble cast in Marc Singer (V, Eagle Eye), Art Lafleur (Field of Dreams, The Rig, Cobra), Rebekah Kennedy (Season of the Witch, Creature) and Paul McGill (Man on Wire, Fame). and third, it's the directorial debut of Dp Eric Hurt, who most recently worked on a scifi flick we're dying to see called called Atlantis Down which is premiering at London Scifi Film Festival right away.
