France 2 duo's gaffe raises ire of staffers
PARIS -- Journalists at pubcaster France 2 on Tuesday cast no-confidence votes against popular newscaster David Pujadas and the channel's editorial director, Olivier Mazerolle. The pair are accused of undermining the credibility of the channel's main television news program and brushing aside basic journalistic ethics in a bid to score over rival private broadcaster TF1. Nearly 70% of the 360 staffers who voted said they had "no confidence" in the news team, French news agency AFP reported late Tuesday. A spokeswoman for France 2 said the company would not divulge the results or comment on them until today. The pubcaster, part of the state-funded France Televisions group, has been under a cloud for a week, when Pujadas is said to have committed a massive journalistic blunder that may cost him his job, insiders say.

Mazerolle steps down after TV gaffe
PARIS -- Marc Tessier, president of pubcaster France Televisions, said on Wednesday that Olivier Mazerolle had stepped down from his position as editorial director of France 2 after taking responsibility for a journalistic gaffe on the channel's 8 p.m. news program last week (HR 2/10). Mazerolle and news anchor David Pujadas were censured through a vote of no confidence from nearly 70% of France 2's staffers on Tuesday. Pujadas will resume presenting the news program after a two-week suspension, while Mazerolle will continue to work at France 2, presenting a program of political interviews that remains in his charge.
