Sagarika since her childhood has grown up amidst various cultures in India & abroad. Her vast travels with her father as a naval engineer have inspired & enriched her thirst for knowledge & her quest for learning about multicultural societies and their issues which special emphasis on women's empowerment. This insightful curiosity had made her interested in films while growing up.
After graduating from Presidency college, Kolkata, and her master's from the University of Kolkata she went off to Purdue University in the United States to further her studies in Global History, Communication and Media studies and worked on Indian Widows based on French philosopher Michele Focault's theories of knowledge and power. Also she did her research on Film psychology and Women studies.
Apart from being a researcher side by side she started her career as a content writer from the renowned firm Advantage under famous hero Prasanjeet Chjatterjee . Her keen interest in film making and writing soon made her a a well known creative director in the Kolkata film industry. She got a great opportunity to work with National award wining film maker UjjwalChatterjee in various films like Kaalraatri, Escape from Talibaan , Swabhoomi & Utthaan as a creative director and screenplay writer.
Sagarika Chatterjee also worked in several documentaries like Water Pollution by Unicef & on Anandi Bai Joshi who was the first lady doctor of India. She also wrote independent stories as Jungle Crows, which is based on winning of the Rugby worldcup by tribal boys of Odisha in London.
Currently she is writing a bilingual film based on Indian laureatte Rabindranath Tagore's first love Nalini and she is developing a screenplay of an upcoming musical thriller film Violin and also doing research on a subject which is based on a national subject Pulwama attack.
