The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored its student winners from colleges and universities around the world at the 51st Student Academy Awards ceremony. The Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards were announced and presented during an in-person ceremony held at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London.

Gold, silver and bronze placements were handed out at the Student Academy Awards in London on Monday in the programme’s first ceremony outside the United States.

The 51st Student Academy Awards took place at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London and honoured 15 winners chosen from 2,683 entries from 738 colleges and universities worldwide.

The Student Academy Awards took place Monday night in London’s Leicester Square with gold, silver and bronze placements awarded to students after entries from 738 universities worldwide.

The night’s category presenters included The Wild Robot writer and director Chris Sanders and Saturday Night co-writer and director and Academy governor Jason Reitman.

In the narrative category, the gold placement went to Pavel Sýkora & Viktor Horák from Filmová Akademie Miroslava Ondříčka v Písku, Czech Republic, for The Compatriot. Jens Kevin Georg from Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, Germany won silver with Crust, and Robin Wang of the University of Southern California claimed bronze with Neither Donkey nor Horse.

School of Visual Arts student Hannah Rafkin won the gold placement in the documentary category for Keeper, followed by Chapman University’s Aaron Johnson with The 17% and Rishabh Raj Jain from New York University, who was awarded bronze for A Dream Called Khushi...

The 51st Student Academy Awards were handed out in London, with three Olympic-style medal placements announced in the shorts categories of animations, live-action and documentary.

Established in 1972 as a showcase for emerging global talent, the Student Oscars have been awarded to such filmmakers as Pete Docter, Spike Lee and Robert Zemeckis at the beginning of their careers. This year, the competition received a total of 2,683 entries from 738 colleges and universities worldwide, with Gold placement going to projects from France, the United States and the Czech Republic.

The winners are listed below, and all are also eligible to compete for the 97th Oscars in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film or Documentary Short Film category.

The Student Academy Awards have unveiled its 2024 winners during its first-ever London-based ceremony.

Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted on 2,683 entries from 738 colleges and universities worldwide to select the 15 winning students’ works. The presentation ceremony was held at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on Monday, October 14, where the placement of each winners among bronze, silver, and gold were announced.

All Student Academy Award-winning films are eligible to compete for 2025 Oscars in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film category. Past winners have gone on to receive 67 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 15 awards. Filmmakers as Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen, Robert Zemeckis, and Patricia Cardoso are award alums.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today revealed 15 winners of its 2024 Student Academy Awards competition, culled from nearly 2,700 entries spanning 738 colleges and universities around the world. See the list below.

Gold, silver and bronze placements in the four award categories will be announced at the 51st awards ceremony, which is set for October 14 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. The event is moving for the first time after being held at Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills for the past half-century.

Winners will have exclusive access to Academy members to support their career advancement, the Academy said. Past Student Academy Award winners include Spike Lee, Robert Zemeckis, Pete Docter, Patricia Riggen and Patricia Cardoso.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have named 15 winners for the 51st Student Academy Awards, making those student films eligible to compete for the 2024 Oscars.

Five of the 15 winning films come from international film schools in India, Japan, France, Czech Republic and Germany, while the remainder come from film schools in the U.S., including USC, NYU, Chapman, Brigham Young University, Brown, the School of Visual Arts and San Francisco State University.

Three of the international schools — the National Institute of Design in India, Digital Hollywood University in Japan and Filmová Akademie Miroslava Ondříčka v Písku in the Czech Republic — are winning Student Academy Awards for the first time.

Unusually, no film school received more than one award.

Winners were selected from a pool of 2,683 entries from 738 colleges and universities worldwide. Previous Student Academy Award winners include Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen and Robert Zemeckis.
