Second husband of Vera Farmiga.

Was introduced to his wife Vera Farmiga by their mutual friend, director Allen Hughes.

Both of his parents worked in advertising. His mother, Penny Hawkey, wrote the Coca-Cola commercial Coca-Cola: Hey Kid, Catch! (1979).

Originally didn't want to join Deadsy. After 6 months of asking, Elijah Allman mailed him a Roland Juno 106 (synthesizer). Hawkey stated he "freaked out, jumped on a plane, and jammed with [Elijah] and Alec; I never looked back".
