Netflix and Shondaland just released the first official photo from The Residence, a murder mystery created by Paul William Davies (Scandal) and inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s novel. The eight-episode season premieres on March 20, 2025.

“The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion. Uzo Aduba stars as Cordelia Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Known for her wry humor, relentless pursuit of truth, and sharp eye for human behavior, Cupp is the most sought-after detective in the world—and an avid birder to boot.

Joining her is Randall Park as Special Agent Edwin Park of the FBI, who is tasked with partnering with Cupp during a high-stakes State Dinner.

“Barbie” and “Ahsoka” received top honors at the 61st annual International Cinematographers Guild (Icg) Publicists Awards luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Friday.

The awards honor individual publicists and unit still photographers who further publicity campaigns for film,TV and entertainment journalists.

Variety’s senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson earned a nomination from Icg in the Press Award category.

In film, the team at Warner Bros. was recognized for their work on “Barbie.”

Over on the television side, the Disney+ marketing and publicity team took the top honors for their work on “Ahsoka.”

Kicking off the event, mention of the ongoing negotiations between IATSE and the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions was made. Icg chair Sheryl Main praised Matthew Loeb, International president of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and said solidarity was key.

Sir Patrick Stewart was honored with the 2024 Television Showperson of the Year Award.

As befits its two rising rap artists who are constantly rethinking and remaking themselves in pursuit of success, “Rap Sh!t” Season 2 has a whole new look. The Max series created by Issa Rae and staring Aida Osman and KaMillion as Shawna and Mia spent its first season being as inventive as its characters, emphasizing the reels, FaceTimes, and social media chaos that they leverage to secure interest (if not paydays) from the music industry establishment. Season 2 doesn’t expand so much as explode the visual scope of the series, focusing on Shawna and Mia’s offline lives.

“We’re peeling back the layers, and we’re going deeper and we’re kind of living with these characters in real time a little more,” showrunner Syreeta Singleton told IndieWire. “So I feel like there was a lot of flexibility and freedom to kind of create a new look.”

The International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) has announced the first group of nominees for the 61st Annual Icg Publicists Awards, which honors publicists, unit still photographers, and entertainment journalists.

Among the nominees is Deadline’s own International Editor At Large, Baz Bamigboye, who clocked a nom in the International Media category. Elsewhere, up for publicists of the year are Sony’s Katie Lovick, Paramount’s Julia Neal, Chris Garcia Nutley of Warner Bros., unit publicist Shelly Williams and Cynthia Swartz.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on March 8, 2024. The winners are picked through an online ballot of the Icg publicists membership during a voting period from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2, 2024.

Transforming actors into well-known figures such as Tammy Wynette and Princess Diana was a challenge for artisans, who experimented with techniques to come up with hair and makeup that would look authentic to viewers.

Cate Hall spent hours with Elizabeth Debicki while recreating Princess Diana’s sophisticated coiffure from the early 1990s for Season 5 of “The Crown.” Through a series of incremental adjustments to the wig — and plenty of patience from Debicki – Hall got the look she desired.

“You hold one another’s hand as you keep slicing the wig with a razor and inching towards a shape that feels recognizable,” she recalls of her collaboration with Debicki.

Hall admits that in her first attempt at the wig, Debicki looked more like a “lady called Brenda from 1983” than the glamorous royal. But she kept working on it.

The streamer released first look photos for its upcoming romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher.

The synopsis for the film reads:

Romantic comedy veterans Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher team up for Your Place or Mine, written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna. Netflix just released the first photos from the rom-com which finds longtime friends swapping homes for a week.

“I think of it as a body-swapping movie, but without the body-swapping,” explained Brosh McKenna in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “They each get to walk a mile in each other’s shoes. And by doing that, they learn things about each other they never would’ve found out otherwise.”

Netflix has set a February 10, 2023 premiere date for the comedy and Brosh McKenna believes it’s perfect Valentine’s Day viewing.

Viewers have been flocking to Hulu’s new true-crime drama “Welcome to Chippendales”, which streams in Canada on Disney+.

The series stars Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the world’s most successful male-stripping empire — leaving a trail of greed, scandal, arson and murder in his wake.

Set in the late 1970s, the series meticulously recreates the disco-driven era, right down to the tiniest detail.

“’Welcome to Chippendales’ was a very research-heavy project,” the series’ costume designer, Peggy Schnitzer, told Women’s Wear Daily.

According to Schnitzer, that research included poring through vintage photography books and watching films films set in the ‘70s, ‘80s and early ‘90s.
