Harrison Ford may be considered irreplaceable when it comes to Indiana Jones, but with Phil Lord and Chris Miller cooking up a Star Wars prequel film, there will come a time when the actor has to pass on the vest and blaster to a young Han Solo.
With a tentative May 25, 2018 release date in place, sources close to the project tell The Hollywood Reporter that Disney is searching far and wide for the right young actor to assume the role, with everyone from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek lining the purported shortlist. In fact, it’s said that the open nature of the screening process means that a staggering 2,500 actors have submitted their pitch, be that in the form of a personal recording or meeting with Disney and Lucasfilm directly.

So, just how valuable and important is Han Solo as a brand to "Star Wars"? The spinoff movie, slated to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, isn't due to start shooting until over a year from now in January 2017 — and yet, casting has already begun for the lead role, and the net is being thrown very, very wide. THR reports that more than 2,500 actors have met or have put themselves on tape for the movie, and unlike J.J. Abrams, who wanted to go with largely unknown actors for the leads in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," bigger stars are being turned away from the Han Solo movie. Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson ("Jurassic World"), Logan Lerman, Ansel Elgort, Jack Reynor, Colton Haynes, Max Thieriot, Leo Howard ("Kickin' It"), Tony Oller ("The Purge"), Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead"), Hunter Parrish, Rami Malek, Landon Liboiron ("Hemlock Grove"), Ed Westwick,...

It's true: Malcolm David Kelly, who once played the illusive Walt on Lost and the ill-fated Lil Saint from You Got Served, is now one half of Mkto. Tony Oller ("To") is the other half, and together they've got a song you might have already heard on the radio. "Classic" is insanely catchy, the type of song deserving of the Song of Summer title. What's it like having the power to infect the world with an earworm? We asked the boys of Mkto:I know “Classic” actually came out last summer, and you guys have been touring with it for a while. Does it feel like it’s gotten too old to perform? Are you over it yet? Malcolm: No, you never really get that feeling. Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller first met as costars on the Nickelodeon series Gigantic, and it wasn't long before the onscreen best friends struck up a creative collaboration behind the scenes. The pair joined forces to form Mkto, a musical duo blending pop and hip-hop. Their first single, "Thank You," cracked the Billboard Top 40 and made a splash around the world. The Purge movie box office (photo: Ethan Hawke in The Purge) Writer-director James DeMonaco’s micro-budgeted, R-rated The Purge movie easily topped the domestic box office this past weekend despite (or perhaps because of) its inane premise: in a peaceful world, a family is held hostage during a 12-hour period when every single form of crime is made legal. Made for a reported $3 million, according to Box Office Mojo The Purge grossed $34.05 million — possibly as a result of poor word of mouth, down a hefty $2 million from Sunday estimates released by distributor Universal. The Purge received a C score from opening-weekend audiences, according to CinemaScore. Now, bear in mind that The Purge may have cost only $3 million to make, but Universal Pictures surely spent quite a bit more than that — probably something in the low eight-figure range — to market the film. Paranormal Activity 2, for one, also cost $3 million, but...

Universal's low budget horror thriller / sci-fi pic The Purge impressed with a solid $16.7 million million Friday debut, easily covering its $3 million budget. Starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, the James DeMonaco-directed-and-scripted film also added $1.5 million from foreign territories as it heads towards $33+ million weekend gross. The film also includes Max Burkholder, Rhys Wakefield, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller, Adelaide Kane and Tom Yi. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Bradley Fuller and Jason Blum produce. In second, 20th Century Fox's Shawn Levy comedy The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and Rose Byrne, turned in a decent $6.5 million and should end off with close to $20 million come Sunday estimates.

The Purge is more of a sociological experiment than it is a straight horror or thriller, pitting the strong against the weak, the rich against the poor and offers a hypothetical situation of how far our obsession with violence can cause us to lose our humanity. In the near future of 2022, the “new Founding Fathers” have devised a way to lower unemployment to 1% and wipe out crime with an annual event on March 22 called “The Purge,” a twisted holiday of sorts that shuts down police and hospitals from responding, starts at 8pm and ends at 8am the following morning, turning their backs on criminal activity and anyone that is murdered, items stolen, or any other crime committed. The flimsy logic behind this event is that it allows people to free themselves of their built up aggression and anger.

Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey are set to start in the upcoming thriller The Purge. Originally titled Vigilandia, The Purge has an interesting premise. In the film's story, America is plagued by crime and "overcrowded prisons." So, citizens are allowed to act out their murderous impulses once a year. For 12 hours, anyone can commit any act without fear of repercussions. And, the police will not intervene. Surely, riots would ensue and fans of dark thrillers can view the film's early concept poster above. The hatchet signals that some people will not be willing to get along with others. More cast and crew details are below, along with a release date. Release Date: May 31, 2013 (Theatrical). Director/writer: James DeMonaco. Cast: Lena Headey, Ethan Hawke, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Rhys Wakefield, and Tony Oller. *director James DeMonaco has worked with actor Ethan Hawke before, on the remake of Assault on Precinct 13.

Following on from the news last week of it receiving a May 31st 2013 release date, Universal Pictures has now revealed a full-length synopsis for James DeMonaco's high-concept dystopian thriller "The Purge" starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey.
Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller, and Andrew Form all serve as producers on the project which posits the idea that U.S. government has issued a decree which allows the populous one night every year to commit any and all crimes possible within a 12-hour window. Have you ever met a mortician that didn’t creep you out even just a little bit? Sure, they work around dead folks all day long, cutting and sewing and sucking out the baddies and putting in embalming fluid, but they’re just normal people like you or me (well maybe you). I can’t say that I’ve ever met anyone who works in the funeral industry that didn’t put me a little off. Maybe being surrounded by death all damn day does something to a person. My little sister even attempted to join the rank and file or mortuary science technicians but failed to break into the niche market. The antagonist, Ely, played by Dennis Quaid in Beneath the Darkness will creep you out a whole lot. Considering we’re talking about the loveable actor who played Jerry Lee Lewis, I think some surprise is in order.

Rhys Wakefield (pictured below; Sanctum ) will star opposite Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge and Tony Oller in sci-fi thriller Vigilandia being helmed by writer-director James DeMonaco. In addition, Bloody Disgusting exclusively scored a small taste of plot details that, until now, have been kept under wraps. The sci-fi thriller takes place in a future where a new regime, called "New Founding Fathers of America", seek to control an epidemic of violence and crime with an experiment called "The Cure". The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme. It's planned to be the first film in a post-apocalyptic franchise. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes' (Brad Fuller and Andrew Form) - responsible for Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes - are producing with Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious). Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

With a big casting development in the beginning of January, I’m just a little surprised that The Game didn’t pick up its slack for almost another month; blame it on experience with these things. But, regardless, Deadline reports that the James Franco-starrer has pulled in Josh Gad, who you may remember as the “wacky friend” in movies like 21 or Love and Other Drugs.
The Game looks to be more of a “solo” role for him — ironic, considering the material and character. In the film, he’ll play Neil Strauss — author of the book upon which the film is based — “a Rolling Stone journalist who is a great writer but is not great at picking up women,” leading him to seek advice from Franco‘s character, Mystery. (Past loglines have described the film as Strauss‘ “effort to learn the tricks to becoming a successful pick-up artist, even moving...

Cast: Dennis Quaid, Tony Oller and Aimee Teegarden.
Beneath the Darkness stars Dennis Quaid as a crazed mortician dancing with corpses in Smithville, Texas. Released theatrically January 6th, this film would be considered a thriller, but there is very little excitement to be found here. Quaid outclasses the other cast members in acting. However, the script from the now deceased Bruce Wilkinson does not contain enough tension to keep one film fan's interest.
Quaid plays Ely, a man with strange visions. His deceased wife becomes live again with a little self-delusion. While dancing in the windows with her corpse, a group of friends decide to find out what is really going on. Their break and enter does not go well. One youth is killed, the others are threatened and soon Quaid is delivering crazy one-liners like: "stairs can be very dangerous." Meanwhile,...

Beneath the Darkness
Directed by Martin Guigui
Screenplay by Bruce Wilkinson
2011, USA
In the post-Scream era, it should be impossible to make a thriller or horror film that does not comment on the conventions of the genre. The only proof that it is possible is Beneath the Darkness, a painfully earnest thriller that falls into every bad-movie trap that a film of this sort could fall into. It’s the very sort of movie that the characters in Scream would laugh at.
Martin Guigui’s film opens with small-town Texas mortician Vaughn Eli (Dennis Quaid) killing a man. That scene, plus the subsequent story element that protagonist Travis (Tony Oller) once saw his sister’s ghost, might lead one to expect a thriller with a touch of the supernatural. Travis is studying Macbeth and “The Tell-Tale Heart,” which only reinforces that mood.
Instead the film delivers some turgid teen drama.

Paramount's The Devil Inside isn't the only horror flick making its way to theatres this weekend. Also playing in limited release will be Image Entertainment's new scarefest, Beneath the Darkness (review here), and to celebrate the movie's arrival, we've got a brand new trailer for ya!
Along with headliners Dennis Quaid and "Friday Night Lights" alum Aimee Teegarden, director Martin Guigui's Beneath the Darkness stars Tony Oller, Devon Werkheiser, and Stephen Lunsford.
Synopsis:
In Beneath the Darkness, Ely Vaughn (Quaid) is a pillar of the community in tiny Smithville, Texas. The town’s mortician, Ely has been revered since his days as the high school’s star quarterback. But since the tragic death of his wife two years earlier, Ely has withdrawn from his neighbors, while local teens spread stories of supernatural goings on at Ely’s mansion—which is also the funeral home. There are various levels of creepy, ranging from talking to your collection of ceramic clowns to keeping the body of a dead woman in your house. Dennis Quaid is that last kind of creepy in Beneath the Darkness, and I’m pretty sure he’s mentally unstable too. Check the trailer and judge for yourself.
Ely the mortician (Quaid) seems like a nice, quiet guy living in a nice, quiet town, but Ely has a little secret and he’s willing to kill to make sure word doesn’t spread about his unique living arrangement.
I’ve always been a fan of Dennis Quaid, although his choice in roles has sometimes been questionable, and it looks like he brings a nice menacing quality to the mortician that has a thing for a dead woman. Hopefully, it won’t take long for this movie to show up in my neck of...

Title: Beneath the Darkness Director: Martin Guigui (‘Raging Bull II’) Starring: Dennis Quaid, Aimee Teegarden (TV’s ‘Friday Night Lights’) and Tony Oller (TV’s ‘Gigantic’) The appeal of living in small American towns is that everyone knows their neighbors, and they’re a safe environment for children to grow up in. But when a seemingly respectable pillar of the community is actually full of rage, and is willing to unleash fear on anyone who threatens to expose his secrets, the psychological terror is enough to frighten anyone. That’s certainly the case in the new horror-thriller ‘Beneath the Darkness,’ a chilling character-driven film which effectively relies on its characters’ motives and reactions, instead...

Sometimes, the movies slated for the 2012 year are only as good as their hype. A few of these flicks only look good as a trailer, but when audiences hit the theatre, either all the best parts have been given away or expectations fall flat. Not every title bears merit, but if any blood money is to be spilt, here’s a list of curios that should really be investigated.
Beneath the Darkness (Release Date: Jan 6)
Dir.: Martin Guigui.
Cast: Dennis Quaid, Tony Oller and Aimee Teegarden.
When a group of teens witness their best friend murdered by a so-called hero, they have to figure out how to expose him and avoid being killed too. Dennis Quaid plays Ely Vaughn, the pillar of the community, but also the antagonist in this film. Interestingly enough, Vaughn is the town’s local mortician, and there’s a secret that no body knows about him.
