Auditions for Lucasfilm's Han Solo "Star Wars" anthology film are reportedly underway with over 2,500 actors having tried out for the role of the younger version of Harrison Ford's character says Heat Vision.

Though previously producer Kathleen Kennedy said the character would be in his late teens/early 20's, they've auditioned numerous actors well into their thirties. Amongst the candidates who have tried out or who are under consideration:

Harrison Ford may be considered irreplaceable when it comes to Indiana Jones, but with Phil Lord and Chris Miller cooking up a Star Wars prequel film, there will come a time when the actor has to pass on the vest and blaster to a young Han Solo.

With a tentative May 25, 2018 release date in place, sources close to the project tell The Hollywood Reporter that Disney is searching far and wide for the right young actor to assume the role, with everyone from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek lining the purported shortlist. In fact, it’s said that the open nature of the screening process means that a staggering 2,500 actors have submitted their pitch, be that in the form of a personal recording or meeting with Disney and Lucasfilm directly.

Blumhouse's 'The Purge' has surprisingly been pushed back a week and will now skip its late May release and land in theatres stateside on Friday 7 June. An amalgamation of horror and thrills have been thrown together in Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes and Universal's new crime thriller 'The Purge'. A new trailer and one-sheet have been revealed from the production set to open at the end of next month in the Us. The high-concept movie stars Ethan Hawke ('Sinister') and Lena Headey ('Game of Thrones') as a couple whose family are put at risk during a national annual 'purge' that allows all crimes to become legal for a period of 12 hours. In the film's story, America is plagued by crime and "overcrowded prisons." So, citizens are allowed to act out their murderous impulses once a year. Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller, and Andrew Form all serve as producers on the project which posits the idea that U.S. government has issued a decree which allows the populous one night every year to commit any and all crimes possible within a 12-hour window. A man comes too on the floor of an apartment and the TV plays in the background, a scene about self defence and not being believed. He leaves on his bike. A jury and judge arrive to view a Cs and the judge is shot by a shooter on a bike. Mac (Gary Sinise) picks up his rolling cigar. Flack (Eddie Cahill) comments the criminal court judge was shot under the noses of the cops and the jury was sequestered. Judge Vinnie Corsica (Brad Blaisdell) was presiding over the Markov trial, a Russian mobster. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) talks about him being the "Sammy Bull of Russian organized crime and Markov has "a dozen bodies on him." Mac: "Looks like it just went to a baker's dozen." Have you ever met a mortician that didn’t creep you out even just a little bit? Sure, they work around dead folks all day long, cutting and sewing and sucking out the baddies and putting in embalming fluid, but they’re just normal people like you or me (well maybe you). I can’t say that I’ve ever met anyone who works in the funeral industry that didn’t put me a little off. Maybe being surrounded by death all damn day does something to a person. My little sister even attempted to join the rank and file or mortuary science technicians but failed to break into the niche market. The antagonist, Ely, played by Dennis Quaid in Beneath the Darkness will creep you out a whole lot. Considering we’re talking about the loveable actor who played Jerry Lee Lewis, I think some surprise is in order.

The sci-fi thriller takes place in a future where a new regime, called "New Founding Fathers of America", seek to control an epidemic of violence and crime with an experiment called "The Cure". The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme. It's planned to be the first film in a post-apocalyptic franchise. On Tuesday, TheWrap reported that Max Burkholder, the 14-year-old actor who plays Max Braverman in NBC's "Parenthood," has been offered the role of Charlie in the film. Adelaide Kane also stars. Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing through Blum's Blumhouse and Bay's Platinum Dunes. Why Not Productions also is producing. With a big casting development in the beginning of January, I’m just a little surprised that The Game didn’t pick up its slack for almost another month; blame it on experience with these things. But, regardless, Deadline reports that the James Franco-starrer has pulled in Josh Gad, who you may remember as the “wacky friend” in movies like 21 or Love and Other Drugs.

Beneath the Darkness stars Dennis Quaid as a crazed mortician dancing with corpses in Smithville, Texas. Released theatrically January 6th, this film would be considered a thriller, but there is very little excitement to be found here. Quaid outclasses the other cast members in acting. However, the script from the now deceased Bruce Wilkinson does not contain enough tension to keep one film fan's interest.

Beneath the Darkness

In the post-Scream era, it should be impossible to make a thriller or horror film that does not comment on the conventions of the genre. The only proof that it is possible is Beneath the Darkness, a painfully earnest thriller that falls into every bad-movie trap that a film of this sort could fall into. It’s the very sort of movie that the characters in Scream would laugh at.

Martin Guigui’s film opens with small-town Texas mortician Vaughn Eli (Dennis Quaid) killing a man. That scene, plus the subsequent story element that protagonist Travis (Tony Oller) once saw his sister’s ghost, might lead one to expect a thriller with a touch of the supernatural. Travis is studying Macbeth and “The Tell-Tale Heart,” which only reinforces that mood.

Instead the film delivers some turgid teen drama.

Martin Guigui's 'Beneath the Darkness' will enjoy a limited theatrical run across the Us starting this weekend. And to help entice potential audience members into theatres, and away from the likes of William Brent Bell's 'The Devil Inside' - which also opens this Friday, a brand new trailer from Image Entertainment has been released revealing a little more of the spooky mystery flick. There are various levels of creepy, ranging from talking to your collection of ceramic clowns to keeping the body of a dead woman in your house. Dennis Quaid is that last kind of creepy in Beneath the Darkness, and I’m pretty sure he’s mentally unstable too. Check the trailer and judge for yourself.

Ely the mortician (Quaid) seems like a nice, quiet guy living in a nice, quiet town, but Ely has a little secret and he’s willing to kill to make sure word doesn’t spread about his unique living arrangement.

I’ve always been a fan of Dennis Quaid, although his choice in roles has sometimes been questionable, and it looks like he brings a nice menacing quality to the mortician that has a thing for a dead woman. Hopefully, it won’t take long for this movie to show up in my neck of...
