Irish Catholic police officer Bill Coughlin believes in the right thing enough to attempt to do it, when in 1974, he is assigned to protect Black children being bused to a high school in South Boston. We know of his public service bent because of what happens when he apprehends a shoplifter outside a Black-owned food market early in the well-meaning, if wrong-headed feature “The Walk,” starring Justin Chatwin as Coughlin. He cuts the guy a break, even though the mart’s owner isn’t nearly as sympathetic. The exchange between cop and thief isn’t all Kum Ba Yah, but it is intended to signal Coughlin’s decency. When it comes to walking the walk, Bill Coughlin may prove to be the real deal. As for “The Walk,” the film’s insights about racism come as familiar baby steps.

Actor Peter Breck (right, in Shock Corridor), best known for his role as the short-tempered Nick Barkley in the 1960s television series The Big Valley, died Monday, Feb. 6, in Vancouver. Breck, who had been suffering from dementia, was 82. Though mostly a TV actor (Black Saddle, Maverick, The Fall Guy), Breck also appeared in about 20 movies. The most notable among those was probably Samuel Fuller's thriller Shock Corridor (1963), in which he plays a journalist who commits himself to a mental institution in order to solve a murder. Additionally, Breck was featured in Joe Camp's blockbuster Benji (1974), about a stray dog who rescues two kidnapped children. Breck's other features were minor fare. Those included Herbert L. Strock's The Crawling Hand (1963), about the hand of a dead astronaut that spends its time strangling the living, plus Highway 61 (1991), Decoy (1995), Lulu (1996), and Jiminy Glick in Lalawood (2004). Actor Eric Balfour has been hired to turn his attentions to behind the camera and turn Jesus Hates Zombies, the graphic novel from Stephen Lindsay, into a feature-length movie from a script written by Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith.
The graphic novel tells of a zombie plague taking over the world, as we've seen play out in movies, comics, games, and TV shows so many times now, but this time the creator himself is watching and doesn't like what he sees, so he once again sends Jesus back to Earth -- this time to throw down with the zombie horde.
As far as directing goes, Balfour has only taken part in a film called Do Not Disturb with four other directors. But you surely recognize him from his many acting roles over the years, which began with Kids Incorporated (remember that one?) and includes Six Feet Under, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,...

Got zombies? Have no fear, as long as you believe in Jesus, you’ll be saved. Or he’ll try to save you, anyway. “Skyline’s” Eric Balfour has signed on to direct “Jesus Hates Zombies”, a live-action film based on the comic book series by Stephen Lindsay. Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith adapted the comic, which boasts this for a plot: In a not so distant future, zombies have overrun the earth. Fearing for the future of humanity, God sends his son Jesus Christ to save humanity. Upon returning, he finds that his powers are greatly diminished as they are tied to others’ faith in him. So he sets out to find the last remaining faithful and rally them to his cause. Along the way he comes across various friends including Mother Theresa, Elvis Presley, a stripper named King, and a time traveling Abraham Lincoln, who brings his own problem along.

TV actor and sometimes movie star, Eric Balfour, is set to direct a comic book adaptation of Stephen Lindsay's "Jesus Hates Zombies" according to Joblo.
Balfour had this to say about the project:
.It.s an honor to be a part of this project. It.s bold, unapologetic, and controversial. When I read the script I was blown away by how well the writers had given life to Stephen.s graphic novel. What most intrigued me about the project was it.s heart and message. There is plenty of comedy and action in the script but what I wasn.t expecting and am most excited about bringing to the screen is it.s message of love and faith. I love when a script can break the mold and offer something unique and I.m going to work my ass off to honor Michael and Jason.s great script, and Stephen.s fantastically unique world.

With a title like Jesus Hates Zombies, we are definitely on board Eric Balfour's feature film directorial debut. As so is Mali (Do Not Disturb) Elfman, who has just officially signed on to produce the project.
According to Tonight at the Movies, the script was written by Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith based on Stephen Lindsay’s comic book of the same name. Eric Balfour, Laura Henry, Petro Papahadjopoulos, Jon Mann-Krieger and Brandon Nicholas each direct a segment in this twisted anthology that sounds like a Twilight Zone version of Four Rooms. They were given a brief synopsis, eight rules to follow and one day on set to create their film.
Synopsis:
Five directors tackle five short stories that are all tied together in one dark, twisted, humorous film about what goes on behind the door of room 316. From a lonely man who pushes a hooker too far, to a Twilight Zone-esque, sci-fi tale, to a sweet teenage romance, and then finally a noir thriller about a man, a woman, a maid and the mafia tied into a spooky horror with a hotel maid - Do Not Disturb has it all.
The cast includes Balfour, Diva Zappa, Jason Alan Smith, Troy Garity, Lindsay Pulsipher, Mali Elfman, Maureen Flannigan, Jonathan Majors and John Reese.
