Shane Ryan-Reid in Banned, Exploited & Blacklisted: The Underground Work of Controversial Filmmaker Shane Ryan (2020)

‘Amityville: Emanuelle’ Brings the Funny Back to the “Franchise” [The Amityville IP]
Image
Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”

After toiling in the trenches with Nick Box’s three releases from the week of April 13, it’s something of a relief to jump ahead to May 8, 2023 with a discussion of Louis DeStefano’s Amityville Emanuelle.

Presumably influenced by the French book and film series of the same name (minus the extra “m”), Geno McGahee’s screenplay returns to a tried and true Amityville premise: a cursed object, a spectral haunting, and some sexy shenanigans.

Amityville: Emanuelle immediately situates itself within the “franchise”s canon with recreated footage of Ronald DeFeo’s murder spree in April of 1974. This is familiar territory: we’ve seen variations of the shootings in Amityville II, The Amityville Legacy, Amityville: The Awakening and more.

It makes...

Making of ‘Slow Horses’: Lively roundtable with director James Hawes and 4 top crafts artisans [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
“Relief” was the first word that came to mind when BAFTA-nominated director James Hawes realized the Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses” had become a success. “It felt like an enormous responsibility to take on these much loved books,” he admits. “And also to find a place in the spy genre where we could give it a different flavor, a different smell. That’s something that the team you have here and I talked about a lot. How do we clue in to everything there is in the British spy genre, where it’s at, and give it just that little twist.”

See Gary Oldman (‘Slow Horses’) on playing a flatulent spy and reuniting with ‘Darkest Hour’ co-star Kristin Scott Thomas

To celebrate the acclaimed series, watch our special “Making of” roundtable discussion with Hawes and four key players from “Slow Horses” — Oscar-nominated cinematographer Danny Cohen, BAFTA-nominated production designer Tom Burton,...

‘Awesomely Righteous & Radical’ Review
Image

Pretty much everybody loves the 80s, right? Horror fans are no different, and homages are as popular as ever when it comes to taking a greyhound back to the decade of spandex, hairspray, shoulder-pads and glam. Awesomely Righteous & Radical is an 80s inspired anthology, or… as it says on the poster “a totally tubular 80s homage anthology”.

Now, I’m an 80s horror lover, and I like a good anthology film, so I was intrigued by this. The concept is simple and has potential to be… well… totally tubular, rad, awesome, most excellent. Here, we have a whole stack of short-films with the connection to them all being that they’re set...

‘Dacryphilia + Hematolagnia’ Short Film Review
Stars: Lilly Montano, Shane Ryan, Lilith Singson | Written by Shane Ryan | Directed by Shane Ryan, Lilith Singson

I feel like the title of this movie, Dacryphilia + Hematolagnia, explains things much better than the actual movie itself. Without the title it’s not too obvious what is going on. At least with it you can garner some kind of understanding. With that in my mind, Google came to my aid:

Dacryphilia - A paraphilia in which one is aroused by tears or sobbing. Hematolognia - A sexual fetish for blood which evokes arousal when present on the fetishist’s sexual partner, especially if nude. It is often accompanied by licking or drinking blood through blood letting or biting.

You learn something new every day!

The short movie lasts about seven minutes and plays out like an artsy music video with two chapters ‘Her Life’ and ‘Her Death’. As one would expect from the title,...

‘American Virus’ Short Film Review
Stars: Adrian Baez, Kathryn Eastwood, Chad Meisenheimer, Shane Ryan, Tommie Vegas | Written by Shane Ryan, Kathryn Eastwood | Directed by Shane Ryan

Short film American Virus is part of the horror anthology Virus of the Dead. An anthology that is a long time in the making, beginning production over three years ago and now with a set release date over a year away (18th May 2019) – which means, hopefully, it will at least start to be seen by people.

At only five minutes long, American Virus is a slightly strange mix of frantic hand-held camera footage, fake news reports, people directly looking at and talking into a camera and random but relevant stock footage. Flipping between both black and white and colour on the screen. It’s not actually as bizarre as it sounds written down and it actually all gels together surprisingly well. Feeling like a hectic and exciting five minutes...

‘Guerilla’ Short Film Review
Stars: Adrian Baez, Randy Burke, Carissa Carlberg, Lucy Dorado, Raul Gutierrez, Delaiah Hastie, Mars Mohamed, Kendall Morris, Lyddie Ward, Riley Yargus | Written and Directed by Shane Ryan

The year is 1989 and after a rocket launch from the American Military goes wrong, a virus has attacked the small town nearby. But a ten year old boy with a video camera might be able to help.

As a synopsis that doesn’t sound like your normal short film and after watching Guerilla, it really isn’t your normal short film… It’s more like a very long video montage. Or six music videos played non-stop together. If you think that sounds like a bad idea, it actually works out a lot better than you’d think.

With no dialogue whatsoever, the music is a huge part of Guerilla. Being set in the eighties and with a director that is clearly heavily influenced by the era,...

Starburst Festival 2018: ‘Your Flesh Your Curse’ Review
Stars: Marie-Louise Damgaard Nielsen, Rose Milling, Louise Gammelgaard, Bill Hutchens, Kim Sønderholm, Frederik Carlsen, Emma Nymann, Paw Terndrup | Written and Directed by Kasper Juhl

When young drug addict Juliet White dies, she doesn’t find herself in hell but somewhere far worse. Forced to relive the traumas and abuse of her days on earth, guided by a mysterious masked figure, Juliet must not only endure but find something new in her suffering.

Take the characters and general milieu from Shane Ryan’s My Name is A by Anonymous, throw in some psychosexual imagery and general sleaze as seen in the likes of Dustin Mills’ work, then mix in a melancholic, melodramatic soundtrack and declare yourself as the next Lars Von Trier and you have Your Flesh Your Curse - a film that spends its entire runtime trying to tell the audience that womens “flesh” is their curse. As in because...

The two formed a partnership at the beginning of last summer and have been working continuously since. Ryan is usually a minimal to one-man production team, with himself making up the entire crew of This Girl, This Boy and God Got Ill.

From Shane Ryan, creator of the Amateur Porn Star Killer Trilogy, Snuff will bring to you the finest faux rape and murder scenes from around the globe. It's win-win for everybody."

I sat down and asked Shane Ryan a few brief questions about the project.

This year's big winners (and flicks that will no doubt go on to find audiences soon) include the highly controversial The Bunny Game, The Super, Dear God No!, The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol and Ratline.

"I was very happy with the quantity of quality films and the diversity I was able to program this year," Freeman said. "Being able to world premiere films like Mondo Sexxxx: The Terry Kobrah Story and The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol,...

2011 PollyGrind: Official Lineup
The 2nd annual PollyGrind assaults Las Vegas during an epic length film festival that runs Oct. 8-17 at Theatre 7 with enough sleaze and violence to make Sin City residents feel right at home.

Actually, the fest does open up on the 7th with a concert at Neon Venus with local acts like Monster Zero, Creepersin and many more.

However, the film portion of the fest opens on the 8th with Stuart Simpson‘s acclaimed Australian gorefest El Monstro Del Mar!, one of the best Russ Meyer/Roger Corman mash-ups with a Down Under twist. Read the Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film review of this gem here.

Other Bad Lit favorites in the lineup are Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s The Taint, which is still completely grossing out audiences on the festival circuit, and The Uh-Oh Show, the splatter-filled horror comedy by the Godfather of Gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis.

"Amateur Porn Star" Killer star jailed
"Amateur Porn Star Killer" star jailed. Michiko Jimenez, who played the innocent 13-year-old character who is humiliated, raped, and beaten to death in the mock snuff film "Amateur Porn Star Killer", is serving time in jail once again. The actress, now 25, is known to have a severe drug problem and has been in and out of rehab consistently for years, but sources say this doesn't look to be the reason this time for serving a lengthy time behind bars. Filmmaker Shane Ryan cast the then 19-year-old Jimenez to play the 13-year-old lead in his film because she actually appeared to look and act very young. The film, which was made for absolutely nothing, turned into a trilogy that went on to become a major cult hit in the independent film community. Ryan frequently works with the same...

Dark side of cinema at the Pollygrind
In an event described as "a B-movie jamboree of awesomeness", the Polly Staffle Grindhouse Fest - informally known as the Pollygrind - launches this Wednesday until May 16 at the Sci-Fi Center (2520 State Street) in Las Vegas.

Thirteen films and more than 31 trailers, music videos and shorts will play the PollyGrind, described by Vampires.com as "one of the biggest events for grindhouse and trash film lovers this year."

Organiser Chad Clinton Freeman said: "The festival is being put on in the same spirit as old-school grindhouse cinema - no funding and creatively using whatever is available.

"With that said, I think the line-up turned out rather nicely and I think everyone that comes out will enjoy what William Powell's Sci-Fi Center and the PollyGrind have to offer."

Five features will have their world premieres at the event. John R. Hand's sci-fi arthouse film Scars of Youth (pictured above...

Vegas will have a Silent Night, Zombie Night
Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Clive Owen in Sin City (2005)
Sin City is suddenly becoming a genre town. The Blacklist Film Festival brought their indie flavor to Las Vegas; Live Evil hit the Sci-Fi Center; and the Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors took over The Palms.

Now William Powell’s comic shop and grindhouse theater hosts the Las Vegas premiere of Sean Cain’s Silent Night, Zombie Night (which we last covered here). The event, celebrating independent cinema, Christmas and zombies all in one night, takes place December 5 at 8 p.m. and costs $5.

Cain, who Fangoria calls a “Indie Horror Specialist,” will be on hand for a Q&A and autograph signing session after the film, as will producer Wes Laurie, and co-stars Chris Gabriel (”One Long Day,” “Devotion,” “S4″), Chad Clinton Freeman ("Killer Biker Chicks"), Luke Y. Thompson (”Wicked Lake,” “Mad Cowgirl”) and Sean Decker ("Alluvial"). Dread Central's Heather Wixson, aka The Horror Chick, will be hosting the event.

Shane Ryan-Reid in Banned, Exploited & Blacklisted: The Underground Work of Controversial Filmmaker Shane Ryan (2020)
Jaycee Dugard's Horrific Story to Get a Sleazy Adaptation
Shane Ryan-Reid in Banned, Exploited & Blacklisted: The Underground Work of Controversial Filmmaker Shane Ryan (2020)
When Jaycee Lee Dugard was 11 she was abducted from a bus stop outside her home in South Lake Tahoe, California. The search to recover her was frantic but fruitless and it seemed like the little girl would be lost to her family forever. That is until a now 29-year-old Dugard was able to emerge from her captor and alert authorities as to the unbelievable life she had been forced to endure since her kidnapping. For 18 years she was held against her will by a psychotic husband and wife duo who repeatedly abused and raped her, which resulted in Dugard giving birth to two of her captor's children, the first of whom would have been born when the poor girl was 14 years old.

It's a hell of a frightening story and now it's set to become the subject of a film called Abducted Girl, An American Sex Slave, only unlike most biographic pictures,...

Jaycee Dugard Movie: Pornographer Announces Plans For 'Abducted Girl, An American Sex Slave'
Nancy Seltzer
From the AP: San Francisco - A spokeswoman for Jaycee Dugard says only Dugard and her family should decide when and if a film is made based on the 18 years she spent with the man charged with kidnapping her. In a statement Tuesday, family spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer called a plan to make a movie about Dugard's life "exploitive, hurtful and breathtakingly unkind." The statement came after Shane Ryan -- the director of low-budget horror movies such as "Amateur Porn Star Killer" and "Romance Road Killers" -- announced that he expected to start production next month on "Abducted Girl, An American Sex Slave." Ryan told Sacramento television station Kcra that he wants to focus on the relationship between Dugard and Phillip Garido, the man charged with abducting, raping and holding her captive in his backyard. --- You voted on the top Jaycee actresses, before this...

Abducted Girl, a new film based on the Jaycee Dugard case
"Abducted Girl, An American Sex Slave" No, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Ashley Olsen Mary-Kate Olsen are not auditioning for this film. It has just been announced that "Abducted Girl, An American Sex Slave" will begin filming next month and is scheduled to be released as early as Spring 2010. The film is loosely based on the Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnapping by Phillip and Nancy Garrido. Dugard was held in captivity for 18 years, from 1991 until 2009. Filmmaker Shane Ryan says the film will focus more on the relationship between the victim and the predator than any thing else, his 5th film in a row to use this technique but he says this story is easily the most challenging one yet. Dugard never tried to escape, even during the months that Phillip Garrido was back in prison due...

Shoreline Entertainment Picks Up Three from Creep Creepersin
Shoreline Entertainment has recently signed three films by notorious low budget filmmaker Creep Creepersin, just in time for Afm.

First up is Orgy of Blood, an erotic vampire film starring Domiziano Arcangeli, who is also executive producer. The film, also starring Chandler Maness ("Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"), Randal Malone (Curse of Lizzie Borden), Jeff Dylan Graham (Psychosomatika), and a slew of horror genre favorites, wrapped in May. Orgy of Blood was written and directed by Creep Creepersin and produced by Aine Leicht and Nikki Wall.

Shoreline also snapped up two more Creepersin films for release as a Grindhouse-style double feature: The Creep Creepersin Double Featuresin. Comprised of Vaginal Holocaust and Caged Lesbos a-Go-Go, the double feature is a heavy throwback to 60’s and 70’s exploitation films.

Vaginal Holocaust takes the viewer on a trip where rape and revenge go hand in hand with redneck vampires and a man-eating vagina! It...

Abducted Girl, New Movie Based on Jaycee Lee Dugard Story
It has just been announced that “Abducted Girl, an American sex slave” will begin filming next month and is scheduled to be released as early as Spring 2010.

Dugard never tried to escape, even during the months that Phillip Garrido was back in prison due to another crime, leaving his wife Nancy in charge of Jaycee. The Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in abducted hostages, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the...
