Joey Grit Winkler was born on June 4, 1975 in Oschatz, Germany. After
graduating from high school, she studied public finance at the Federal
University of Applied Sciences of the State of Brandenburg. Having
worked as a company auditor for the tax authority for six months, she
decided to quit the civil service. Instead, she joined Club Calimera
and Club Aldiana as a host on the Canary Islands. That's where she
started presenting stage shows and radio programs. After a year, she
went back to Germany to work as a freelance editor for radio stations
Antenne Brandenburg, Radio Koeln and RPR 1.
In 2001, Joey joined the NBC Europe affiliate Giga, the "television of Generation @". As a host and editor, she reported on science, research, technology and space flight on a daily live show for four years. Besides, she set up and headed a local studio for NBC Giga in Saarbruecken, finished her degree in journalism, reported as a VJ for CNN Germany and hosted the morning show of regional TV station tv.nrw. As one of her guests on Giga, Hendrik Hey, producer and host of Welt der Wunder - Schau dich schlau (2005), was excited by Joey's talent. When creating the new format "Schau dich schlau!" for German broadcaster RTL II in 2005, he engaged her as a host and reporter. Since September 2005, the show runs every Sunday at 18:00 CET on RTL II.
