Kalki 2898 Ad Movie Review – ‘Kalki 2898 Ad‘ is Nag Ashwin’s ‘Cinematic Marvel’ which combines the myths and legends of the post-apocalyptic era that we have seen only through Hollywood films. Although there have been many movies based on myths and legends, this will be the first time a sci-fi movie will emerge that connects the past and the future.
What is the matter with Gandivam (Arjuna’s bow) and Chiranjeevi Aswatthama in a world dominated by AI technology and robots? That is where this ‘fictional story’ of Nag Ashwin becomes a spectacle beyond fiction.
After “Mahanati”, Nag Ashwin picked up this “Kalki”, which was touted as the biggest budget project in the history of Telugu cinema, a completely different story.
A pan India hero like Prabhas, along with Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwaththama, a character from the BC era, Kamal Haasan as the future character Yaskin, and Deepika Padukone as a pregnant woman.

Romeo Akbar Walter(Raw)
Starring John Abraham, Mouni Roy, Jackie Shroff, Sikandar Kher
Directed by Robby Grewal
What makes them do it? No, I don’t mean the bravehearts like Meghna Gulzar and now Robby Grewal who dare to make films about those daredevils who risk their lives to act as Indian spies in Pakistan. But those unsung daredevils who sneak into Pakistan to glean information for their beloved motherland.
And what do they get for it finally?
Towards the end of this intelligently-written well-crafted espionage drama, our spy-hero’s boss, played with wizened aplomb by Jackie Shroff mumbles, “He gave preference to his motherland over his own mother.”
Did he, now?
And just a while back John Abraham’s Romeo/Akbar/Walter had made Shroff promise, “No matter what happens my Ammi must be looked after.”
So much for promises.
Raw hits those raw nerves that all patriotic cinema avoids.

Ashim Ahluwalia’s Miss Lovely (2012) leaves an uneasy impression. It is not about its mildly explicit images, titillating posters or exposure to the shady underworld of low-grade semi-porno, horror film industry. It isn’t about the unconventional focus on a low grade film industry either though all of the above linger in the mind of the viewer. The greatest difficulty of Ahluwalia’s film is to have taken on a daunting project without rising to its challenges. The film is hesitant about where its stakes lie—in depicting the reality or in weaving a narrative that discloses the deeper neuroses of an underworld, an overrated glamor industry called Bollywood or an indelible blend of crime and film in India.
The film is set in the underworld of cinema that finds its lonely, sex-starved consumers amongst us, filling their lives with images that are pleasing only in a state of abjection.

Florid direction, lurid atmosphere, and reckless passions all contribute to the intoxicating deliriousness of Miss Lovely, a thriller set in 1980s India's B-movie industry.

Film: "Miss Lovely"; Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Niharika Singh and Anil George;
Director: Ashim Ahluwalia; Rating: ****
To aesthetically capture the scummy on screen in all their naked glory is not an easy task. Debutant director Ashim Ahluwalia has achieved a stirring and disturbing synthesis of a documentary-styled narrative on the not-defunct world of horror-porn from the 1980s, and a conventional Hindi film love triangle (two brothers, one girl, tension, tension!).
The storytelling is not just unique, it is also extremely disturbing. The characters do not follow the redemptive path from sleaze to atonement. They remain till the end damned, doomed and despicable in their greed to capture female flesh in lascivious.

Mumbai, Dec 27: Filmmaker Ashim Ahluwalia, whose internationally acclaimed "Miss Lovely" is set to hit the Indian screens with an A-certificate, has used the actual footage from C-grade films in the movie as he feels it was not possible to create the "wildness and sleaziness of the original films".

Reworked out of a shelved documentary on illegal sex-horror films in the lower depths of Bollywood, Miss Lovely by Ashim Ahluwalia, is a startling piece of cinema that explores a sordid tale of betrayal and doomed love. His first narrative feature, the film is an ode to renegade film making that flouts genre conventions to conjure up a world that very few of us have access to.
The film follows Vicky and Sonu Duggal, played by Anil George and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, two brothers struggling to produce illegal sex-horror films in the mid 1980s. It explores the intense and mutually destructive relationship between the Duggal brothers and a struggling actress Pinky, played by Niharika Singh.
"The story does take place in the dark, lower depths of the industry, so this is not the kind of space that we usually depict in our films. It is a very adult film that explores...

2012 turned out to be a year when a number of smaller or independent films made their way onto many Top Ten lists. But, as always, there are films that, for a number of reasons, risk being forgotten or overlooked, especially in a year where there are so many great films to choose from. Here are 13 films – 10 already released, 3 from the festival circuit – that you should have seen in 2012. It’s still not too late!
Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid (dir. Nila Madhab Panda)
It’s a massive shame that Nila Madhab Panda’s film didn’t get as much attention as his I Am Kalam, and also a shame that the film was released to DVD without English subtitles. Documentary filmmaker Ashim Ashluwalia makes his transition to feature films with this story of the two brothers, Sonu (Nawazuddin Sidiqqui) and Vicky (Anil George) who work making lurid and sleezy (and highly illegal, given the censorship and repression of the times) schlock horror and porn films in 1980s Bombay. Vicky is the ambitious one of the pair, working out deals with gangsters when he isn’t trying to sidestep their hold on the distribution of his product. Sonu is the more hapless, almost dimwitted, and decidedly passive brother, who harbours a dream to create something different, a romantic film that he titles “Miss Lovely”. He feels he’s found his heroine in Pinky (Niharika Singh), a seemingly sweet young woman trying to break into films, but with a shadowy past and a link to Vicky that Sonu discovers far too late.

Today the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) announced the much-anticipated line-up for the fourth edition of the City to City programme, a series designed as an “exploration of the urban experience, highlighting the best in emerging cinematic talent in a particular locale.” It’s been no secret that the spotlight this year would be placed squarely on Mumbai, as confirmed earlier this year by the festival’s Artistic Director, Cameron Bailey.
“Mumbai’s cinema today is entirely different from what it was even a few years ago. The rise of independent cinema has shifted the terrain, probing into previously taboo subjects and adopted styles that were earlier unpalatable to the Indian audience,” said Bailey. “Mumbai’s film industry is going through a significant change and a strong group of new filmmakers has emerged. They’re representing the evolution of their city in an interesting way. Toronto audiences are in for a treat this fall.
