Some of the most exciting heroes and heroines in Hollywood have also taken to sci-fi and horror, as these types of movies allow them to explore deeper themes with strong characterization and narrative intrigue. This variety in their filmography makes these stars infinitely more interesting as viewers get to see them deliver performances that go deeper than a hero who simply saves the day.

Many of the biggest action stars of the 1980s had incredibly diverse resumes, as films during that period and beyond often blended action with sci-fi and horror. While some action stars are intrinsically linked to other genres, as actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger became inseparable from movies like The Terminator, even these performers have branched out and surprised viewers with their later parts.

Nexstar Media Group’s cable news channel NewsNation will provide rolling coverage of the first day of the 119th Congress on Friday.

The coverage will be powered by NewsNation’s sister news outlet The Hill, a political-oriented web publication acquired by Nexstar in 2021.

NewsNation reporters and correspondents will be deployed throughout the U.S. Capitol, including areas around the U.S. House and U.S. Senate chambers. A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at the 2005 video game adaptation Doom (watch it Here) – a movie that didn’t spawn the sort of franchise the game did, but there was a second movie that was released direct-to-video in 2019. Oddly, the title of that movie was Doom: Annihilation, just like the original video game adaptation of Mortal Kombat received a sequel called Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Grantchester just returned to PBS for its ninth season on Sunday night, but viewers can rest easy knowing the Masterpiece drama's future is secure. The detective drama series has been renewed for season 10. Robson Green and Rishi Nair will return as stars of the new season, which will start filming next month in the UK.

Kandi Burruss has joined the second season of Hulu’s legal drama “Reasonable Doubt,” starring alongside series regulars Emayatzy Corinealdi, Morris Chestnut, McKinley Freeman, Tim Jo, Angela Grovey, Aderinsola Olabode and Thaddeus J. Mixson.

Burruss will take on the role of Eboni Phillips, a party girl in her youth who has since cleaned herself up.

According to an official logline, the new season follows Jax Stewart, who “after trying to heal from her wounds from last season’s arduous trial and deadly affair, is attempting to get her life back on track. That is until one of her closest friends reveals that she has killed her husband.”

“Reasonable Doubt” is created, written and executive produced by Raamla Mohamed. Kerry Washington executive-produces with Pilar Savone for Simpson Street, Larry Wilmore for Wilmore Films and Anton Cropper. Shawn Holley, Jon Leshay, Tamara Gregory, Lena Cordina, Tash Gray and Resheida Brady are co-executive producers.

Masterpiece on PBS has ordered a 10th season of the mystery series, Grantchester. Stars Robson Green and Rishi Nair are set to return as Di Geordie Keating and Reverend Alphy Kottaram, respectively.

Grantchester, one of Masterpiece’s longest-running series, is a co-production of Kudos (a Banijay UK Company) and Masterpiece for ITV. It airs on Masterpiece on PBS in the U.S. and on ITV1 and Itvx in the UK.

Banijay Rights handles international distribution for the series. Masterpiece is presented on PBS by GBH Boston.

As filming for “Grantchester” Season 9 is officially underway, star Tom Brittney has revealed that it will be his last. The actor, who has portrayed Reverend Will Davenport since 2019, will exit the PBS and ITV series to focus on new projects.

“I’ve had the most incredible time playing Will Davenport for the last five years. I got to solve crimes with my best friend, and work with the best cast and crew I could ever ask for,” Brittney said in a statement. “I’ll miss it more than anything. But it’s time for the baton to be passed, as it once was to me.”

Grantchester is commonly described by critics and viewers as a “cozy mystery”. This label, especially in regards to its seventh season currently airing in the US on PBS, is misleading. Although so far the season’s emphasis on found family is heart-warming, there are also a number of serious social and political issues underneath the unraveling of its various mysteries.

The crime-solving vicar/priest/nun is a common cozy mystery archetype. I was a little nervous about the current fourth season of the PBS crime drama series Grantchester, as just one episode in, we lost one of our main characters who drove the series, and was so loved. It’s a small cast, and the series has always hinged on the main two characters, played by James Norton and Robson Green, so to know Norton wouldn’t be on the show anymore, I had to wonder if it would work. Luckily, the supporting cast, and the new members including Tessa Peake-Jones, Al Weaver, and Tom Brittney have carried it into this new season of the series, and I’m happy to say it still works!

This series is so incredibly well-written and captivating. It has every ingredient to make a great dramatic, comedic, crime show, with characters we love so much. So I am happy to report we are getting another season after this one.

Canadian actress Michelle Mylett and Scotland’s Kate Dickie have signed to star in Paul Raschid’s interactive sci-fi film The Complex for UK producers John Giwa-Amu of Red & Black Films and Jade Alexander of Little Jade Productions, which starts shooting in the UK today (Monday April 29).

The film/game hybrid is being made with UK video games company Wales Interactive, which will develop the technology and publish across multiple gaming platforms. The producers are speaking to streaming platforms about hosting the project.

Opening a crime film, an indie crime film for that matter, in a diner only screams to remind audiences of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, setting a high bar for the film to come. Which, frankly, means your film better live up to that expectation… Thankfully Blue Iguana does.

BBC One/Masterpiece’s newspaper drama Press has dropped its first teaser. The six-part drama kicks off in September in the UK and follows on Masterpiece next year. Set in the world of competing London papers and created by Doctor Foster‘s Mike Bartlett, the series stars Ben Chaplin and Charlotte Riley and features David Suchet. Check out the first look above.

First the good news for Grantchester fans: The ITV & PBS series has been renewed for Season 4. Now the rotten news: They will be the final episodes with star James Norton as the jazz-loving, crime-solving vicar Sidney Chambers as the actor segues to the BBC-AMC drama McMafia.

Norton, whose name has been bandied about as the next James Bond, will return to the Masterpiece series alongside Robson Green, who co-stars as his partner-in-crimefighting Detective Geordie Keating. Al Weaver, Tessa Peake-Jones and Kacey Ainsworth also star. Production begins in June in London for a 2019 premiere.

But Norton’s exit won’t signal the end of the series set in the 1950s in the English hamlet of Grantchester.

“It’s a bittersweet time for Grantchester fans, who will be cheering the return of the series but crushed to say goodbye to James,” said Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton at Wgbh Boston.
