Chuck Lorre, who has created hit shows like The Big Bang Theory, has found new success with his current sitcom, Leanne. Interestingly, the series creator recently likened his new show to his past hit sitcom, Mom.

Speaking to TV Line, Lorre discussed the "dramatic through line" that both Mom and Leanne share in their stories about women having to effectively start their entire lives over. Leanne Morgan is bringing laughs to Netflix once again.

The comedian stars in the new trailer for “Leanne,” a comedy series about a woman navigating the fallout of a 33-year marriage. Morgan co-created the series alongside producer/screenwriter Susan McMartin and famed sitcom producer Chuck Lorre for a July 31 release.

The trailer shows Leanne discovering that her longtime husband, played by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” comic Ryan Stiles, has cheated on her with a presumably younger woman.

“Supported by her family, including her ride-or-die sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), Leanne learns to embrace the chaos and finds strength, laughter and hope in the most unexpected places,” Netflix’s story description reads. “This heartfelt comedy proves that it’s never too late to rewrite your story.”

Per the series' official logline, "Starting over when you're a grandmother and in menopause isn't exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad." Surrounding the darker side of showbiz, the movie will follow the previously announced Karan Soni (Deadpool franchise) as Amit, a young man aspiring for a career in screenwriting. Tapping a slew of fresh talent for the latest casting rollout, the movie has signed on Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Annie Gonzalez (Flamin Hot), Thomas Barbusca (The Mick), Caylee Cowan (Sunrise in Heaven), Veronika Dash (Isabels Garden), Scott Evans (Barbie), and Johnno Wilson (I Love That For You).

Production is underway on Legion M’s darkly comedic horror thriller Fade to Black, which sees art imitating life for an aspiring Hollywood screenwriter. Today, Legion M has announced that Betty Gabriel, Thomas Barbusca, and Annie Gonzalez have joined the cast.

Lopez revealed that he will be retiring from stand-up comedy after the release of his upcoming special on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Speaking to Tamron Hall on her syndicated talk show, Lopez said, “It is the last one. I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap. It seems like the right time; it’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”

Exclusive: Kaelyn Hutchins has joined Neon Kite as a Talent Manager, Deadline has learned.

The advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. will also pay tribute to director Fede Alvarez, athlete Tatyana Ali, the Los Angeles Football Club and streamer Tubi. The National Hispanic Media Coalition has revealed the 2024 Impact Award nominees to be feted at its annual gala taking place on June 14.

Annie Gonzalez (Flamin’ Hot) and Mayan Lopez (Lopez vs. Lopez) will host the celebration. The Impact Awards is a part of the Nhmc’s overall mission to spotlight the importance of accurate, fair and positive representation in media. Each year, the organization honors individuals who are truly making an impact, shifting societal narratives and setting an example for Latine communities.

The 2024 honorees can be found below.

Issa López, a multihyphenate who most recently co-wrote and directed HBO’s True Detective Season 5 starring Jodie Foster. Nhmc will recognize López’s achievements with the Trailblazer Impact Award.

Harvey Guillén, star of the hit FX series What We Do In The Shadows which is gearing up to premiere its sixth and final season. He will receive the Outstanding Performance in a Series Impact Award.

Becky G took the Oscars stage to perform “The Fire Inside” from the Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot.

Diane Warren wrote the song for the film about Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor who became an executive after inventing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Ahead of the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, Longoria talked about the excitement her directorial debut getting some recognition at the Academy Awards.

“I have goosebumps. I can’t believe it. I can because Diane Warren wrote the song, so she’s a genius and Becky G is a genius,” Longoria told Laverne Cox on Live from E! red carpet coverage. “Their performance tonight… You will never be more proud to be a Latino and a Chicano, but Becky’s thought and love that she put into this performance tonight is going to blow everybody away. She has some special guest from Inglewood.”

She continued, “We don’t ever get this platform.

Oscar nominees and presenters, as well as Hollywood power players, supported the Motion Picture & Television Fund at its 22nd annual benefit dubbed “Night Before,” which raised more than $4.3 million on Saturday night.

Exclusive: After more than a decade, Silver Lining Entertainment, the management and production company founded by veterans Jeff Golenberg and Sam Maydew, is dissolving.

Golenberg and fellow Silver Lining partner Jason Shapiro have launched Strand Entertainment, a management and production company based in Los Angeles, bringing most of Silver Lining’s managers with them. Ethan Coen’s solo directorial career is going full speed ahead with his narrative feature debut, “Drive-Away Dolls.”

Coen, working for the first time sans brother Joel Coen in the narrative space, co-wrote the screenplay for the queer crime comedy with his wife Tricia Cooke. “Drive-Away Dolls” centers on Jamie (Margaret Qualley), an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, who encourages her demure friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) to break out of her shell by way of a vacation.

Latino-owned Luz Films announced its launch just before the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where its first film by first-time writer-director Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio, “In the Summers,” won the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic competition. However, co-founder Sergio Lira says that impressive start isn’t nearly enough.

“This is an amazing win right out of the gate, but one is not enough,” said Lira, who serves as co-ceo with fellow founder Lynette Coll. “This is an amazing achievement that we did this right off the bat, but it’s a lot of what we’ve been diligently, silently working towards, and we want to keep doing it.”

Year 2023 will be remembered in Hollywood for various phenomena — the strikes, Barbenheimer — but for Latinos, 2023 was the year that saw a relatively significant number of movies and TV releases from and about their community, in a variety of genres. With actors and writers spending about half of last year unable to promote their projects, the atmosphere at Neuehouse in Hollywood was all the more electric last Friday evening as a who’s who of Latin entertainment, media, sports and politics came together to toast the excellence they saw on the big and small screens.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Flamin’ Hot, the script from Lewis Colick and Gentefied creator Linda Yvette Chávez that became Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut.

The rags-to-riches story of Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor (played by Jesse Garcia) who becomes the marketing godfather of the spicy-chip revolution, hit the spot right away with audiences. The pic from Searchlight Pictures won the Headliners section’s audience award after its world premiere at SXSW, after which it became the first film to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+ when it premiered in June.

Longoria told Deadline earlier this year that after sparking to the original script by Colick (October Sky and Charlie St. Cloud) and coming aboard, her first suggestion was that the story’s point of view needed to be Montañez’s.

“This is his version of what happened,” she said.

The 38th Annual Imagen Awards took place on Sunday, Dec. 3 to celebrate Latino excellence and contributions to Hollywood. Taking place at the Biltmore Hotel in L.A., the talent that showed up to the event included Gina Rodriguez, Edward James Olmos, Michael Cimino, Enrique Arrizon, Julieta Egurrola, and many more.

Women in Film returned for its annual Wif Honors on Thursday night, once again recognizing the women working on the frontlines to change the entertainment industry for the better.

The event, held at The Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, kicked off with the presentation of the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award, selected and presented by the icon herself.
