Chuck Lorre, who has created hit shows like The Big Bang Theory, has found new success with his current sitcom, Leanne. Interestingly, the series creator recently likened his new show to his past hit sitcom, Mom.
Speaking to TV Line, Lorre discussed the "dramatic through line" that both Mom and Leanne share in their stories about women having to effectively start their entire lives over. "How do you start over? Can you start over? And the answer is yes - with support [from] family and friends who care for you and want you to survive and succeed," Loree explained. "Both shows have that element of hope that you can crawl out of the ashes and start again."
Leanne star Kristen Johnston, who also starred in Mom as recovering addict Tammy Diffendorf during the series' final four seasons, added, "There are women of a certain age who are starved for this kind of [show]. When Mom was canceled,...

Offbeat yet family-centered, “Leanne” doubles down on the Southern wit and candid conversation around well-lived womanhood that has made comedian Leanne Morgan a standup sensation.
Co-created with Chuck Lorre, whose sitcom track record with “Two and a Half Men,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Mom,” and more has earned him the tag “King of Sitcoms,” the 16-episode comedy has a new beginnings twist. After 33 years of marriage, Leanne’s husband Bill (Ryan Lee Stiles) suddenly leaves her for a younger woman, forcing her to rethink her life as a now single grandmother in menopause.
With her parents Daddy John (Blake Clark) and Mama Margaret (Celia Weston) still together, divorce is a hard state for Leanne but well-worn territory for her sister Carol (Kristen Johnston) who becomes her rock. As Carol encourages her big sister to get out there, Leanne’s life takes unexpected turns. From their small community discovering the scandalous...

Leanne Morgan is trying to keep her head above water in the debut trailer for her upcoming Netflix series, Leanne. The sitcom will center around the titular character whose world is flipped upside down after her husband, Bill (Ryan Stiles), leaves her for a younger woman. The latest title to have The Big Bang Theory and Dharma & Greg co-creator Chuck Lorre’s name attached looks like it will mix all the best themes from similar titles like Reba and Roseanne, while allowing the stand-up comedian to step into the spotlight and hold up her own show alongside a stacked and familiar ensemble that includes Kristen Johnson (3rd Rock From the Sun), Celia Weston (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Blake Clark (Boy Meets World), and more.
The debut trailer for Leanne welcomes audiences to the world of its protagonist, as she sits on her bed and grieves for the ending of her marriage.

Taylor Kitsch and Chris Pratt return to the world of espionage in Prime Video’s teaser trailer for prequel series “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.”
The first three episodes will premiere Aug. 27, with the rest of the episodes releasing weekly. The series takes place before “The Terminal List” and dives into the backstory of Ben Edwards (Kitsch) and his time in the Navy Seals and CIA Special Operations. Pratt, an executive producer on the series, also returns as James Reece.
“Digging into Ben’s origin with ‘Dark Wolf’ was a blast. This season goes even deeper—there’s more grit, more heart, and a lot more on the line. It’s raw, it’s honest, and it really lets you see the heart of who he is. Netflix is coming in hot with its latest original sitcom, as the streamer has unveiled the first batch of images for its upcoming series, Leanne. With a logline that will remind audiences of iconic shows of yesteryear such as Reba and Roseanne, the project follows its titular character, (played by comedian Leanne Morgan), after she’s forced to start life over again thanks to her husband of 33 years leaving her for another woman. The fresh start is certainly a rude awakening for the grandmother who’s well into menopause, but after she shakes off the blues and grabs life by the horns, she finds that she’s going to be more than okay — especially with the safety net of loved ones helping her out along the way.
Leanne’s (Morgan) life might be difficult, but you wouldn’t know it by the lineup of premiere images. In them, we see...

NBC previously picked up its two freshman comedy series, St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place, for second seasons, but we now know that the Lopez family won't be joining them. The network has announced that George Lopez and Mayan Lopez's family sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez has been cancelled after three seasons. The news comes a full two months after the Season 3 finale, which welcomed the elder Lopez's nemesis Mario Lopez in a guest-starring role as George's fitness-obsessed attorney cousin Vinny. With Night Court also being cancelled, this leaves Happy's Place as the only multi-camera sitcom left standing at the network.
Premiering in 2022, Lopez vs. Lopez brought George back to television on NBC after he had previously become a sitcom darling across six seasons on ABC with George Lopez. Hulu is home to The Bad Shepherd, a wildly divisive new thriller that is dominating the streaming chart. The indie film failed to overly impress audiences last year, garnering a rotten 39% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that has not stopped subscribers from checking out The Bad Shepherd, which has an exciting premise that answers the question we've all wondered at some point — What would you and your friends do if you came across a bag full of money?
The Bad Shepherd is currently ranked second in Hulu's most-watched movies list (via Flix Patrol). The film follows a group of friends on a hunting trip who accidentally run over an armed woman with a bag full of money. Lopez Vs Lopez combines family sitcom antics with a touch of theatrical drama. George Lopez stars as a former alcoholic and deadbeat dad who reconnects with his estranged daughter when he hits rock bottom and tries to turn his life around. Now in its third season, Lopez Vs Lopez's current batch of episodes focuses on the impending wedding between Mayan and her fiance and baby-daddy, Quinten (Matt Shively).
The November 15th episode, "Lopez Vs Friends," featured a special appearance from Annie Gonzalez, who played one of Mayan's childhood friends, who is considered for Maid of Honor duty, much to the chagrin of Mayan's mother, played by Selenis Leyva. Ultimately, it will take a line dance to sort things out... It makes sense in the greater context of the episode, we promise.

Year 2023 will be remembered in Hollywood for various phenomena — the strikes, Barbenheimer — but for Latinos, 2023 was the year that saw a relatively significant number of movies and TV releases from and about their community, in a variety of genres. With actors and writers spending about half of last year unable to promote their projects, the atmosphere at Neuehouse in Hollywood was all the more electric last Friday evening as a who’s who of Latin entertainment, media, sports and politics came together to toast the excellence they saw on the big and small screens.
The event, La Cena Los Angeles, was an expansion of the intimate multi-city La Cena dinner series started last year by culture and impact consultant Ruben Garcia, formerly co-head of cultural business strategy at CAA, to cultivate community among impactful Latino figures across disciplines.

The entertainment industry landscape is constantly evolving. And with that evolution has come a new generation of actors who are challenging norms, pushing boundaries, and demanding more authentic and inclusive representation onscreen. On June 20 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, SAGindie Executive Director Darrien Gipson moderated a Film Independent roundtable with seven up-and-coming performers currently reshaping how we see ourselves in film and TV: Annie Gonzalez, Isis King, Lionel Boyce,...

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Flamin’ Hot, the script from Lewis Colick and Gentefied creator Linda Yvette Chávez that became Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut.
The rags-to-riches story of Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor (played by Jesse Garcia) who becomes the marketing godfather of the spicy-chip revolution, hit the spot right away with audiences. The pic from Searchlight Pictures won the Headliners section’s audience award after its world premiere at SXSW, after which it became the first film to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+ when it premiered in June.
Longoria told Deadline earlier this year that after sparking to the original script by Colick (October Sky and Charlie St. Cloud) and coming aboard, her first suggestion was that the story’s point of view needed to be Montañez’s.
“This is his version of what happened,” she said.

Women in Film returned for its annual Wif Honors on Thursday night, once again recognizing the women working on the frontlines to change the entertainment industry for the better.
The event, held at The Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, kicked off with the presentation of the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award, selected and presented by the icon herself. Fonda explained that, “there’s great joy in being an artist, an actor — being paid for your work and recognized, fantastic, wonderful; but to be an activist that’s something else again. To act is to put on a performance, but to be an activist is to perform in service of the world.” She continued, “It’s hard to imagine a more perfect recipient of this recognition,” speaking of this year’s chosen honoree, America Ferrera.
“From her very first moment on the screen in Real Women Have Curves it was obvious...
