With over 20 years of experience in the VFX industry, Nicolas Hernandez co-founded the multi award-winning London-based studio Milk Visual Effects and worked as VFX/CG Supervisor and CTO for six years. During this period at Milk, Nicolas was pivotal on crafting and supervising an impressive range of complex sequences for high-end TV and feature films, winning an Emmy for the BBC/Hartswood's Sherlock; three BAFTA Television Craft awards for the BBC's Doctor Who (2014 and 2015) and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2016) and seven BAFTA Craft Award nominations. Nicolas also was part of the core team who won an Oscar in 2016 for best visual effects on Alex Garland's feature Ex-Machina.
Before Milk, Nicolas enjoyed an eight-year stint as a VFX/CG Supervisor and Head of 3D at London VFX powerhouse The Mill. During this time, he led his team on many high-profile TV Dramas earning them a Bafta and five VES nominations. Nicolas started his career in VFX as a Modeler / Technical Director at Framestore CFC where he concentrated on Modelling, Groom, Texturing, Lookdev and Lighting for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which won an VES Award for 'Outstanding Performance by an Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture' for the Hippogriff.
Since 2021, Nicolas Hernandez is a Visual Effects Supervisor and Head of VFX, at Important Looking Pirates VFX. Nicolas has been VFX Supervisor on episodic and feature work; his work on Apple TV+ Foundation got him nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, and his work for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny got nominated for Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature VES awards.
