After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.
When will Season 2 be released?
Netflix has slated the second installment of the series for streaming in 2025.

Singer/songwriter Lady Gaga didn’t have anything to do with the first season of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday, but when video clips of Jenna Ortega’s “Goo Goo Muck” dance scene went viral, many fans replaced The Cramps’ song “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary.” So Wednesday and Lady Gaga have been connected for a while now – and that connection is going to be deepened with the now-in-production season 2, as Deadline reports that Lady Gaga has been added to the cast of the show! Details on the character she’ll be playing have not been revealed.

Back in 1968, George A. Romero made his feature directorial debut with one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Night of the Living Dead – and while doing so, he also introduced the world to flesh-eating ghouls that became a new definition for the world “zombie.” Romero, who passed away in 2017, went on to make several more zombie movies over the decades… and recently, his daughter Tina Romero revealed that she’s making her own feature directorial debut with a zombie movie called Queens of the Dead. Deadline reports that Charades has acquired the international sales rights to the project – and while doing so, they unveiled the first image from the film! You can check it out in this article.

City of Hope Gala Delivers an Elton John Set, David Blaine’s Magic and Surprise Cameo by Celine Dion
Two legends turned up at City of Hope’s Spirit of Life gala on Tuesday night.
It came as no surprise when Elton John took his place at center stage inside the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, as the piano man was announced as one of the night’s headliners weeks before the event took place. He still wowed the crowd by closing the packed program with a rousing set that included his hits “Your Song,” a rendition of “Tiny Dancer” and an extended performance of “Rocket Man” that rocketed the capacity crowd out of their seats by the time it was over.
However, when it came time to present the night’s highest honor to Aeg Presents chairman and CEO Jay Marciano, a big reveal came in the form of superstar Celine Dion. Organizers managed to keep her appearance under wraps until her name was called and she made...

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday has been filming in Ireland since May, and Netflix has just unveiled a video that gives a glimpse behind the scenes. In the process, they have also confirmed that the new batch of episodes will premiere sometime in 2025. Among the cast and crew members seen in the video are, of course, star Jenna Ortega, as well as director Tim Burton – and during a chat with Collider, Al Gough (who created this series with Miles Millar) revealed that Burton is directing half of season 2, which is the same thing he did for the first season. That means Burton is at the helm of four of the season’s eight episodes.
Wednesday comes to us from Millar Gough Ink, Tim Burton Productions, Toluca Pictures, and MGM Television, and is described as a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl’s years...

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. By the time that date rolled around, the movie had been given the new title Afraid (or AfrAId)… and neither the new title nor the new release date worked out for the movie at the box office, because it only ended up making $9 million at the global box office. Just two weeks after its theatrical release, Afraid has now been given a digital release and is available for rent on Amazon’s Prime Video for $9.99. It can also be purchased for the price of $14.99.
Afraid‘s physical media release will follow on November 5th, when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD with the following extras: – 5 Deleted & Extended Scenes including...

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. Here we go:
Title
Johnson got the title Knives Out from a Radiohead song. When it came time to make the sequel Glass Onion, he got the title from a song by The Beatles. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England,...

It’s almost August, which means two things: It’s the last month of the summer movie season, and we’re into the traditional “Dog Days of Summer” when studios often dump a lot of crap in hopes that moviegoers, at least those not taking their last-minute vacations, might go see them. Oddly, this month we also have a number of original films with just two franchise reboots, and a couple movies based on popular books and one video game. Read on for Gold Derby’s August 2024 box office preview.

Fred Armisen and Riki Lindhome are married — and have been for two years.
The Wednesday co-stars had known each other for 15 years before they started dating in early 2022. Lindhome recalled to People that she could tell she was having feelings for Armisen on the set of the hit Netflix series but didn’t think she could pursue a relationship because she was expecting a baby via surrogate.
“I wanted to go on a date,” she told the publication. “That’s what I knew. So I was like, ‘Ok, let’s explore.’ Then, it unfolded naturally over time. I wasn’t like, ‘You’re the dad.’ I was like, ‘I want to have dinner with you.’ My thought was, ‘I want to kiss you. I want to see you.’ Then it just kept going.”

'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' stars Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen have joined a new musical parody. The two actors - who played Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee respectively alongside Gene Wilder in the original 1971 movie - will take part in a live stage reading of 'Willy's Candy Spectacular', which is inspired by the disastrous 'Willy's Chocolate Experience' event in Glasgow earlier this year. The upcoming musical parody will perform live stage readings at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with the former child stars each stepping in as narrators.Cole will be part of the cast from August 9 to 18, with Themmen then stepping into the role from August 19 to 26.The musical is inspired by the real life 'Wonka' event which was originally advertised as an "immersive experience" as organisers promised a "magical realm" for visitors.Although the promotional material was full of promise thanks to AI-generated images,...

The infamous Willy Wonka experience is making its way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a parody musical. More here.
There are few films as universally beloved as 1971’s Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (pictured). Despite author Roald Dahl reportedly hating the film, the public took it to their hearts, with classic songs like Pure Imagination entering the public consciousness.
Even though we now how three screen Wonkas – Gene Wilder, Johnny Depp and Timothee Chalamet (four if you count this) – Wilder’s Wonka is generally considered the definitive version. Tim Burton’s 2005 film, while closer in tone to the book, divided fans, not least due to Depp’s portrayal of Wonka, although it’s certainly true that Tim Burton’s visual style and updated special effects bring the chocolate factory to life in a way the 1971 film couldn’t.

Because memes never truly die, the disastrous Willy Wonka exhibit that spawned such viral images as the sad Oompa Loompa and ‘The Unknown’ now has a fully produced musical parody on the way titled Willy’s Candy Spectacular. Because that alone isn’t absurd enough, original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory actors Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen have officially joined the cast.
Cole and Themmen, who respectively portrayed Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee in the 1971 classic, will serve as narrators in live stage readings of Willy’s Candy Spectacular, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The readings are set to go down at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with Cole leading the production from August 9th to August 18th and Themmen taking over from August 19th to August 26th.

After more than 50 years, two actors are diving back into the world of Willy Wonka (sort of). Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen, two of the child stars of 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, will participate in a live stage reading of Willy’s Candy Spectacular, an upcoming musical parody inspired by a disastrous Wonka event that made international headlines earlier this year.
Cole played the insatiable Veruca Salt in the classic movie starring Gene Wilder as chocolatier Willy Wonka, while Themmen played the cowboy hat wearing Mike Teavee. Both will participate in a live reading at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, serving as narrators. Cole will lead the cast from Aug. 9 to 18, with Themmen stepping in from Aug. 19-26.
Willy’s Candy Spectacular was inspired by a real-life Wonka event in Scotland, which organizers advertised as “immersive experience” that would transport Willy Wonka fans to a “magical realm.

Have you ever thought about how you can’t spell ‘afraid’ without AI? Because writer-director Chris Weitz certainly has. His new technophobe triggering thriller Afraid — formerly titled They Listen — sees John Cho and Katherine Waterston star as a married couple whose lives are turned upside down when they sign their family up to trial a (quite literally) killer new home AI assistant. Ever worry Alexa is going to turn on us all one day? That’s the gist of Afraid, a new science fiction horror film produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions.
In Afraid, John Cho and Katherine Waterston play a married couple with a young son (Isaac Bae) and a teenage daughter (Lukita Maxwell) who get an AI-powered digital family assistant called Aia installed into their home. Aia functions a lot like Amazon’s Alexa, but it uses AI to complete more complicated tasks like paying bills and motivating the kids to do their chores. Quickly, however, Aia’s powers and control over the family begin to grow, taking retribution against anyone who threatens the kids and bringing her mysterious “friends” to the house.
The film’s official logline reads, “In Afraid, Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called Aia.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. With that date swiftly approaching, we knew the marketing for the film had to start any time now… and as it turns out, it has started today. They Listen has been retitled Afraid, and a trailer for the film can be seen in the embed above.
Afraid is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming took place in Los Angeles back in December of 2022.
Along the with release of the trailer comes, finally, some information on what this movie is actually about.

Earlier this year, a number of actors were questioning their life choices after answering an add to work at a Willy Wonka experience in Scotland. Organizers advertised it as an “immersive experience” that would transport Willy Wonka fans to a “magical realm.” They used lush, AI-generated art helped lure patrons to the event, which turned out to be anything but magical. The experience was housed at a shabby warehouse that was so depressing it earned comparisons to a meth lab, and it ultimately made international headlines for just how bad it was.
Now, songwriter Riki Lindhome is questioning the life choices of one of the actors involved in a new track for Willy’s Candy Spectacular, an upcoming parody of that disastrous, Fyre Fest-style Willy Wonka event. In the song (below), Lindhome channels the experience of Kirsty Paterson, who played the sad Oompah Loompa in the real viral experience and...

Actor and musician John Stamos is known for lending his talents to bands like The Beach Boys, but now he’s going in a very different direction. Stamos has recorded a song for Willy’s Candy Spectacular, an upcoming live musical that takes inspiration from a disastrous Willy Wonka-inspired event in Scotland earlier this year. He sings on a new track the production released Monday.
The event that inspired the musical made headlines after it used lush, artificial intelligence-generated photos to attract customers to what it billed as an “immersive experience” that would transport Willy Wonka fans to a “magical realm.” In reality, this “immersive experience” was held at a shabby warehouse in Glasgow, Scotland, that was so depressing attendees compared it to a meth lab.
This viral news story inspired The Little Mermaid Live producer Richard Kraft, and his Kraft-Engel Productions, to turn that event into a musical parody.

If you read the headline and are asking yourselves, pilots? what pilots? — you are not wrong. It’s been largely a 2024 pilot season without pilots. A grand total of maybe one of them is expected to factor into any fall decisions as the broadcast networks prepare to unveil their schedules, starting with CBS tomorrow, May 2.
Needless to say, the broadcast pilot season is no longer the industry obsession it once was this time of year, with back-to-back disruptions from the pandemic and the dual Hollywood strikes providing the proverbial final nail in the coffin of the decades-old pilot cycle. But for tradition’s sake, here are some insights into the networks’ current development plans.
There is no more stacked lineup for next season than CBS’ with three new drama series, Young Gibbs prequel NCIS: Origins; Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; and Watson, headlined by Morris Chestnut; and two new comedies, Poppa’s House,...

The Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow was described as the biggest event disaster since the Fyre Festival.
However, it appears a separate creative team has been inspired by the recent disaster, and are planning to turn the whole botched experience into a musical.
The BBC reports that producer Richard Kraft has assembled a team for the project, called “Willy Fest: A Musical Parody,” which he hopes to launch later this year. He told the BBC that the writing team was “assembled in less time than it takes for someone to sing the first verse of ‘Oompa Loompa Doompa-Dee-Do’.”
And he said: “I don’t want to fall into putting on the very thing we are satirising, so we are talking to investors now to make sure we have the proper budget to execute this well.”
The names attached to the project include Emmy nominee and comedian Riki Lindhome and Broadway...

Remakes have always been and will always be a tricky proposition. You could have something as pure and wonderful as 1982’s The Thing, which is objectively better than the revered Howard Hawks and Christian Nyby version, but be trapped in purgatory for way too long before it is decided that its proper and loved. There’s a bunch that are better in different ways or at least thoroughly enjoyable in their own right like John Carpenter’s masterpiece, Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and of course David Cronenberg’s The Fly. While you can argue the horror vs sci fi merits of any of these movies, their quality can’t be disputed. When it comes down to what you can or can’t remake, I think the gloves are off at this point. There’s very few sacred cows left and sometimes a remake can help. Something...

Jenna Ortega is teasing the second season of Wednesday, saying that each episode will feel like a movie.
“I’ve received some scripts now for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” Ortega told Laverne Cox while being interviewed for E! on the Emmys red carpet. “It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show [Wednesday] never really changes and that’s what’s wonderful about her.”
She continued, “There’s some really good one-liners and I think everything is bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”
The second season of the Netflix series has moved filming locations to Ireland after filming the first season in Romania. Wednesday EP Steve Stark recently revealed that production for the series would begin in April.
