Matthew Wood Cast as H.E.R.B.I.E. in Fantastic Four: First Steps
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" at The Shrine Auditorium on December 9, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.
Matthew Wood will voice the character H.E.R.B.I.E. in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to release in theaters on July 25. The announcement came through director Matt Shakman, who discussed the character and Wood’s casting in a recent interview.

H.E.R.B.I.E., a robotic creation of Reed Richards, is presented as a central part of the story. Shakman emphasized the droid’s role as a companion to Richards, portrayed by Pedro Pascal. “He’s absolutely as important and as alive as any other member of the cast,” Shakman said. “He’s sometimes a slightly put-upon robot, but he is definitely a member of the family.”

The director described H.E.R.B.I.E. as Richards’ assistant in both scientific experiments and off-world missions. “He’s Reed’s right hand in the lab, capable of assisting him on any sort of experiment,...

For those who might not know, the upcoming tenth season of AMC's hit adaptation of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead will be the last for actress Danai Gurira aka Michonne. But don't worry about the Black Panther actress as she is sure to have a killer career in movies after leaving the show. And speaking of which, today we have confirmation from Guiria herself that she will be returning as Okoye in director Ryan Coogler's much-anticipated Black Panther 2.

Danai Gurira was recently at San Diego Comic-Con promoting her final season on The Walking Dead and said this about reprising Okoye.

"Listen, listen... literally, I have no information, that's the beauty of our conversation right now. Mr. Coogler says, 'Tell them we're working hard, and you're in it.' That's all I got for you [laughs]."

Good enough for me at this point in time! And then in a fun bit,...

Captain Marvel Alternate Ending Revealed by Editor
Brie Larson in Captain Marvel (2019)
Captain Marvel nearly had a different ending from what we all saw on the big screen. Editor Debbie Berman reveals that they ended up changing it in order to give "more closure." The first female-led Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is currently killing it at the box office after making over $550 million globally in just two weeks in theaters. The Carol Danvers standalone movie will top the box office for the second weekend in a row, which was to be expected. There are Spoilers for Captain Marvel below, read ahead at your own risk.

In a new interview, Captain Marvel editor Debbie Berman shed some light on the latest McU project and how it was almost a little different at the end. Berman has worked on a number of McU movies over the years and even suggested some slight tweaks to the final scene of last year's Black Panther. When asked about those changes,...

Details Revealed For The Original Ending of Captain Marvel
While Captain Marvel continues to dominate the box office, some new details have surfaced regarding the film that involves the way it was originally supposed to end.

The original ending was very different from the one we ended up seeing in the film, but the one we did get works so much better than what they were going to do. If you haven’t seen the movie yet…

The information comes from the film’s editor Debbie Berman, who opened up about the ending of the film in an interview with Et, saying:

“I did actually suggest some tweaks to the ending of this film. It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring. Like, where exactly was she going? And what was she doing? It felt like we needed a stronger visual to assert a more specific justification for her...

‘Captain Marvel’ Editor Reveals Alternate Ending That Needed More ‘Closure’
Brie Larson in Captain Marvel (2019)
Spoilers ahead for “Captain Marvel”

“Captain Marvel” editor Debbie Berman said in a new interview that the original ending to “Captain Marvel” didn’t have the same emotional “closure” or “resonance” that the film ultimately did in its final cut.

In an early iteration of “Captain Marvel,” Berman said that the film ended with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) flying off into space alone. But, she suggested some tweaks to directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, saying that moment didn’t feel quite right.

“It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring. Like, where exactly was she going? And what was she doing,” Berman said in an interview with ET. “It felt like we needed a stronger visual to assert a more specific justification for her leaving and disappearing for so many years. So we added Talos and his family in their spaceship waiting for her,...

Captain Marvel Ending Changed Before Release

Captain Marvel editor Debbie Berman says she found the original ending "jarring"...

This article contains Captain Marvel spoilers...

Captain Marvel has now been a huge hit worldwide for Disney and Marvel, and one thing that a lot of people have enjoyed about the new McU instalment is its unexpected Skrull storyline.

In the movie, the villainous race from the comics was replaced by a dwindling group of refugees on the run from both the powerful Kree and ex-pilot Carol Danvers, whose intrinsic humanity ultimately led her to help them escape the clutches of the Kree. Carol (Brie Larson) and the Skrulls, headed up by Ready Player One's big bad Ben Mendelsohn, all flew off together in the last moments of the film to find a new home, where the Skrulls hopefully wouldn't be hunted anymore.

Captain Marvel’s Original Ending Has Been Revealed
Captain Marvel has been yet another triumph for Marvel Studios.

At $550M and climbing, the 90s-set adventure is well on its way to topping $1 billion – a rare feat for Marvel-owned movies, given only six McU films have been enshrined into the billion-dollar club. The top three are all Avengers films (no surprise there), while Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War currently round out the top six.

That means Black Panther is Marvel’s only non-sequel to gross higher than $1 billion, so as things stand, Captain Marvel is headed towards box office immortality.

And as the post-mortem continues, Marvel Studios editor Debbie Berman has revealed details of the original ending she had planned for Carol Danvers’ solo flight.

I did actually suggest some tweaks to the ending of this film. It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring.

Bo Report: ‘Captain Marvel’ to the rescue, a triumph for female creatives
Brie Larson in ‘Captain Marvel’ (Photo credit: Disney).

After a terrible start to the year with grosses down 12 per cent on the same period last year, Australian exhibitors had something to cheer about last weekend thanks to Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

Starring Brie Larson as the first female Marvel character to front her own movie, the sci-fi fantasy co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck notched the biggest debut of 2019 and an all-time record for March.

The estimated Us launch of $US153 million ranks as the third biggest in March behind Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Warner Bros’ Batman v. Superman. The global total of $US455 million was the sixth highest ever and the second best for a superhero film behind Avengers : Infinity War.

It is a triumph for many women behind the camera including co-director and writer Boden, co-screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, story credits for Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman,...

‘Captain Marvel’ To Thaw Winter Box Office Deep Freeze With $350M+ Global Warming
Brie Larson in Captain Marvel (2019)
Here comes Captain Marvel to the rescue and to set the box office back on track.

The domestic comp to last year has been off by as much as 26% and that’s largely because we’re comparing this year to a Black Panther-fueled winter a year ago. Well, business is about to get better for 2019 as Disney’s Captain Marvel, the first Marvel movie since July’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is hoping to rocket-charge to a $150M start in U.S./Canada and a $350M worldwide opening, which would be higher than DC’s Wonder Woman ($228.3M), Justice League ($278.8M), and Fox/Marvel’s Deadpool 2 ($300.4M), and just under Black Panther‘s Ww first frame of $371.4M. What’s giving further juice to the lofty Captain Marvel stateside forecast is that we’re hearing the pic’s advance ticket sales are beating that of Captain America: Civil War.

Win Passes To The St. Louis Advance Screening Of Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel
Marvel Studios presents “Captain Marvel,” an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that introduces the McU’s first stand-alone, female-franchise title character—Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” sidesteps the traditional originstory template, with Carol Danvers already possessing her superhero powers. Leaving her earthly life behind, she joins an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is...

‘Black Panther’ is the new ‘Star Wars’ when it comes to the Oscars
Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman, Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, and Letitia Wright in Black Panther (2018)
Will the highest grossing film of the year “Black Panther” score a Best Picture nomination? It’s a fair question as no Marvel film has ever even been in the conversation. And the question has produced so much turmoil the academy temporarily thought of adding a Best Popular Film category. We should look towards another popular origin story that was not your typical Oscar fare — 1977’s “Star Wars: IV A New Hope” — as our guide towards “Black Panther’s” potential Oscar nomination haul.

George Lucas’s original “Star Wars” spawned a franchise that includes seven prequels and sequels and two spinoffs to date. Luke Skywalker’s origin story maybe outside the Oscars comfort zone but that didn’t stop the film from picking up 10 nominations including Best Picture; Best Director (Lucas); Best Original Screenplay (Lucas); and Best Supporting Actor (Alec Guinness).

It won six below-the line races: Best Film Editing...

Ladies’ choice: ‘Roma,’ ‘The Favourite’ win top awards from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists
‘Roma,’ Alfonso Cuaron‘s nostalgic ode to his ’70s childhood in Mexico City, won over the 84-member Alliance of Women Film Journalists — including me. The stunning black-and-white Netflix release pocketed five Eda wins: Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Non-English Film, Best Editing and Best Director. Coming in second were those cutthroat royals in “The Favourite” with four wins, including Olivia Colman as Best Actress.

The all-female group’s 12th annual competition once again salutes the best – and some of the worst – in the world of film with 25 categories in three sections. There are the general Best of Awards, Female Focus Awards and Eda Special Mention Awards whose nominees are picked by those Awfj members who send in a nominating ballot. There is room for the good, including Viola Davis of “Widows” receiving the “Actress Defying Age and Ageism Award,” and the bad, as in Jennifer Lawrence of “Red Sparrow,” who...

‘Black Panther’ Star Angela Bassett on Ryan Coogler: ‘He Fought Lions With a Switch by His Side’ — IndieWire Honors
Ryan Coogler
On November 1, the 2018 IndieWire Honors ceremony will celebrate eight filmmakers and actors for their achievement in creative independence. We’re showcasing their work with new interviews and tributes from their peers this week.

When you’ve been around this film industry as long as I have, when you see new voices — new visions — you get so excited. I saw Ryan Coogler’s “Fruitvale Station” when it first came out in 2013. I was interested in seeing this small independent movie produced and shepherded by Forest Whitaker, who has excellent taste, along with the work of a young filmmaker dealing with important historic subject matter. I loved it and thought it was a story well told.

And along comes “Creed,” which was a great indicator of what Ryan would do in the future. Attending the “Creed” premiere was an opportunity to support and meet this young man whose work so impressed me.

‘Black Panther’ Oscars spotlight: Behind a great superhero movie are great women below the line
Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman, Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, and Letitia Wright in Black Panther (2018)
“Black Panther” has received abundant praise, including for its wide-ranging, multi-dimensional female characters who get to drive the story and don’t just exist to motivate male characters. I echo all those sentiments about warrior Okoye (Danai Gurira), spy Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), scientist Shuri (Letitia Wright) and queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett).
