The director of It and It Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti, is also the creator, director, and actor in the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. And even though the show hasn't even premiered yet, we're already thinking ahead to its future. And so are the creators.
Muschietti shared that he has a three-season plan for the story, per Fangoria. If it happens, each installment would be distinctly mapped into three eras when the spine-chilling clown of Derry comes out of hibernation. This would include highlighting Mike Hanlon’s research,...

The upcoming TV series It: Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), was originally meant to be for the Max streaming service, but we recently learned that it will be airing on HBO as well. The show went into production in Port Hope, Ontario at the end of last year, aiming for a 2025 premiere, and wrapped in August after 237 shooting days. We’re still waiting to hear exactly when the nine episode first season is going to start airing – but casting director Rich Delia has already confirmed that the show’s kid characters are not safe… which makes sense, when you’re dealing with an antagonist that describes itself as “the eater of worlds, and of children.”

The upcoming show serves as a prequel to both King's iconic horror novel and Muschietti's film adaptations of it, exploring the titular town in the '60s as they find themselves terrorized by Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while also expected to explore the evil spirit's origin story. 3 Body Problem's Jovan Adepo leads the Welcome to Derry cast alongside Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider and Bill Skarsgård returning as Pennywise.
During a recent interview with Radio Tu (via MovieWeb), Muschietti shared some insight into the creative process of developing It — Welcome to Derry. Stephen King's book It, about a child-eating clown called Pennywise who terrorizes the small town of Derry on and off for decades, has been terrifying people ever since it first hit bookshelves in 1986. More recently, Andy Muschietti directed a pair of movies based on It that did quite well at the box office, well enough for HBO to greenlight a show set in Derry, decades before the events of the main story. It's called It: Welcome to Derry.
Normally I'd say this sounds like HBO is stretching, but two things make me optimistic: first, It is an enormous book, and there probably is enough in there to base a show on. Welcome to Derry will be based on the "interludes" throughout the book, when one of the main characters, Mike Hanlon, investigates incidents in Derry's past where Pennywise crawled out of his hole to wreck havoc, whipping the...

Bill Skarsgard will return as the terrifying Pennywise in TV series Welcome To Derry, a prequel to director Andy Muschietti’s It movies.
Bill Skarsgard, who brought his singular screen presence to the role of Pennywise the Clown in director Andrew Muschietti’s It movies, is to reprise the part in an upcoming prequel TV series. According to Deadline, Welcome To Derry (said to be a working title) will explore Pennywise’s origins in 1960s Maine. The show originally began production last May, but was delayed due to that year’s Hollywood strikes.
Andy Muschietti’s 2017 and 2019 films received critical praise and did big business at the box office, with plaudits going to Skarsgard’s commitment to Pennywise, with his performance switching seamlessly between low-key eeriness and over-the-top wildness. It also received praise for its tone, which veered from the typical Stephen King Stand By Me-esque coming of age...

It's impossible to overstate the popularity of "It Chapter One" and "It Chapter Two," or how Bill Skarsgård's turn as the horrifying Pennywise the Clown has become the definitive portrayal for multiple generations. Based on the terrifying novel by Stephen King, "It" and Skarsgård's ability to move his eyes independently is most certainly responsible for increased levels of coulrophobia around the globe. The otherworldly creature known as It comes in many forms, but Pennywise the Clown is undoubtedly his most famous. Since arriving in the town of Derry, Maine, It has been devouring the citizens for hundreds of years, resting for 27 years between feeding cycles.
Warner Bros. Discovery's Max streaming service ordered a prequel series with the working title "Welcome to Derry" in 2023, but there hasn't been much movement on the project to report on. It's almost as if the evil was waiting until we collectively forgot about it,...
