Drake's former Degrassi co-workers are weighing in on the performer's star-making acting gig. In honor of Degrassi: The Next Generation celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Oct. 14, 2001 series premiere, a number of the show's cast members and behind-the-scenes talent reminisced about its big moments in an oral history published by The A.V. Club on Thursday, Oct. 14. This included the season four twist involving Rick Murray (Ephraim Ellis) shooting Jimmy Brooks (Drake) and causing him to become paralyzed. In the piece, James Hurst, who wrote for the Canadian teen drama series, alleged that Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, was adamant at one point about no...

On Wednesday, Drake dropped the music video for "I'm Upset" and pulled off a totally unexpected Degrassi: The Next Generation reunion. In the video, the stars of the Canadian teen drama are back for their high school reunion, and it gets lit. Drake, who played Jimmy Brooks on the TV show from 2001 to 2009, is reunited with 19 of his Degrassi castmates, including Shane Kippel, who played his onscreen best friend, Gavin "Spinner" Mason; Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones); and Ephraim Ellis, who played Rick Murray, the infamous schoolmate who shoots Jimmy and paralyzes him during season four. Yeah, Degrassi definitely earns its tagline, "It goes there."

While most of us would probably dread going to our high school reunion, Drake managed to make it look like the best idea ever when he dropped the Degrassi: Next Generation-themed music video for his new single "I'm Upset" on Wednesday. Not only did he reunite all of our favorite characters - including Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones), Lauren Collins (Paige Brooks), Shane Kippel (Gavin "Spinner" Mason), Miriam McDonald (Emma Nelson), and Ephraim Ellis (Rick Murray) - but he also brought back a hotter-than-ever A.J. Saudin, who played Connor DeLaurier on the beloved teen series.
Although some stars were left out, like Daniel Clark and Ryan Cooley (who played Sean Cameron and J.T. Yorke respectively), we can't help but reminisce about our childhood with the epic throwback video that has us deep in our feelings. Just when you think he's down for the count, Drake comes back to prove he's never out for long. After a brief quiet period following a rap beef with Pusha T, Drake dropped a surprise for all his fans on Wednesday night with the music video for his song "I'm Upset."
The high-school-reunion-themed video takes viewers back to Drake's days on the Canadian TV drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, on which he played the role of Jimmy Brooks from 2001 to 2009. It features a slew of his Degrassi castmates, including Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones), Lauren Collins (Paige Brooks), Shane Kippel (Gavin "Spinner" Mason), Miriam McDonald (Emma Nelson), and Ephraim Ellis, whose character, Rick Murray, shoots Jimmy Brooks and paralyzes him from the waist down during season four.

Drake got his old 'Degrassi' costars to reunite for his new music video on just about a week's notice ... so say two of his former cast/classmates. Shane Kippel and Ephraim Ellis -- who played Drake's best friend and fateful shooter on the show, respectively -- tell us Drizzy's new treatment for "I'm Upset" was literally shot this past weekend, and that they'd only gotten a heads-up mere days before that. That's pretty crazy, considering...

Drake’s former castmates from “Degrassi: The Next Generation” had a blast reuniting for his latest video, “I’m Upset,” shot this past weekend in downtown Toronto from the Air Canada Centre, where the rap star’s beloved Raptors play basketball, in addition to the Degrassi set in north Toronto, where the long-running teen drama still films.
He released the video Wednesday night and it already has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.
From 2001 to 2009, Drake, then known by his birth name Aubrey Graham, played Jimmy Brooks in the series, a rich kid who ends up in a wheelchair after getting shot.
He appeared in over 100 episodes, and again in “Degrassi: Minis” (2005-2007). He also released his first mixtape, “Room For Improvement,” in 2007.

Drake returns to his roots in the video for his song “I’m Upset,” which finds him returning to the scene that put him on the map in the first place, the TV show “Degrassi.”
Of course, the clip incorporates other narratives, and one is in the opening scene, where Drake wakes up next to a woman in a bed placed in the middle of the the Air Canada Center, the arena in which his beloved Toronto Raptors play basketball. The sound of his phone pinging a reminder of his high-school reunion.
Sure enough, as soon as he suits up and hits the Degrassi Community School, sure enough, the old gang is all there:

Once again, Degrassi went there. While "Wheelchair Jimmy" has become a favorite Internet meme thanks to Drake's transformation from Canadian teen drama star (then known as Aubrey Graham) to one of the music industry's most-celebrated rappers, the story behind the nickname of his Degrassi character Jimmy Brooks is no laughing matter. In 2004, Degrassi aired what's arguably its most talked-about episode, as a bullied student, Rick (Ephraim Ellis), brought a gun to school, shot Jimmy, and paralyzed him from the waist down. (Rick died after his gun went off during an altercation with another student.) Now in 2016, after its move from TeenNick to Netflix, Degrassi: Next...
