Fremantle has signed a first look and development deal with Fudge Park, the British scripted comedy company founded by “The Inbetweeners” creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley.
Under the arrangement, Fremantle will become the primary home for all of Fudge Park’s upcoming scripted projects, with the indie working closely with Fremantle’s global drama and international distribution divisions to help develop its drama and comedy slate and expand globally.
The deal was brokered by Jill Kellie, Fremantle’s vice president of commercial strategy, commercial and international, and Jonathan Blyth, Fudge Park managing director, and follows the success of The two company’s recent collaboration on BBC comedy “Daddy Issues.” Starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, the series debuted in August, becoming BBC Three’s biggest new comedy series launch of the year and the biggest comedy series for the channel since it relaunched in 2021.

Time to pack your briefcase, the boys could be heading back out on tour.
The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas has said that he and co-stars James Buckley (Jay), Simon Bird (Will), and Blake Harrison (Neil) would consider reuniting for a third movie.
He told the Always Be Comedy podcast that the idea had been discussed in “various forms and all of us feel like it would be nice.”
“We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,” Thomas said.
“A movie, I think works with the right idea. It would be challenging to do another series, just because of the timeline. But with the film, there are all sorts of options.”

To a generation of Brits, Iain Morris may forever be known as half of the duo that created “The Inbetweeners,” the wildly rude sitcom about a group of mostly unpopular teenage boys that ran from 2008-2010 and was followed by two hugely successful films.
But the multi-talented creative has been prolifically busy since then, reuniting some of the “The Inbetweeners” lead cast for BBC comedy series “White Gold,” creating another BBC comedy “First Team,” working on FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows,” helping write Taika Waititi’s soccer comedy “Next Goal Wins” and recently being tapped to direct Netflix rom-com feature “My Oxford Year.”
For the last few years, he’s also been hard at work on “Time Bandits,” Apple TV+’s small-screen reimagining of Terry Gilliam’s cult 1981 fantasy comedy about a young boy taken on an adventure through time with a band of thieves (mostly played...

Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey have been tapped for the lead roles in new BBC Studios comedy “Daddy Issues.”

The duo are now set to play daughter and father in “Daddy Issues,” which follows the story of hard-partying Gemma (Wood), who lives for the weekend when she gets down to let down her hair in Manchester. No, there won’t be any more Inbetweeners. But what else would you like to ask the Friday Night Dinner actor and Days of the Bagnold Summer director?
There’s a lot more to Simon “Will from The Inbetweeners” Bird than meets the eye. As he’s said himself, he’ll probably never quite get away from his role at the posh one with the briefcase in three Channel 4 series and two films of Iain Morris and Damon Beesley’s teenage-angst-ridden sitcom. Although he had a damn good try as slightly less annoying son, Adam, in six series of Channel 4’s gone, but not forgotten, Friday Night Dinner.
Bird made his West End debut in 2017’s The Philanthropist with Charlotte “Ghosts” Ritchie, Lily Cole, Tom Rosenthal and Matt “Toast of London” Berry. In a three-star review, the Guardian’s Michael Billington described Bird’s performance as: “Funny rather than sad.

When you’ve had a big hit, it’s often all anybody wants from you. To artists, that level of success can feel like a trap. Fearful that the breadth of their creative genius may go unacknowledged, a singer might spend years trying to shake off a number one single, turning their back on requests for the old stuff and attempting to captivate fans with their Fresh New Sound. In such instances, results vary.
A saner alternative is to embrace what made that success happen, and try to repeat it. That’s what The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have done in new BBC sitcom The First Team. Bar the cast, they’ve got the old band back together – the same writer-directors uniting with the same script editor and executive producer under the same comedy controller. Instead of breaking the mould and wasting energy simply to demonstrate versatility,...

Two magpies are fighting to the death outside Damon Beesley’s window. The violence is distracting him from the task in hand. “It’s just too much to ignore,” he tells Den of Geek, breaking off from an anecdote about the filming of new BBC football sitcom The First Team.
“Very Partridge that, by the way,” says his writing partner Iain Morris. “Super Partridge.”
Joining us on the call from La, Morris doesn’t have to contend with magpies; he’s dealing with a more existential struggle. The idea for The First Team arrived in 2009. “A decade ago – oh God, I’m so old.” Back then, the pair were pondering their next move after the second season of The Inbetweeners, the E4 schoolboy comedy that grew into a massive hit and two successful movies.

The Inbetweeners was a revelation, on the small screen and the big one, and even now, to this very day, every time we walk past a bus stop we think ‘w***ers’. We can’t help (sorry commuters!) Needles to say we’ve been patiently anticipating what creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley would conjure up next, and finally, coming to BBC2 this week, we have The First Team.
We had the pleasure of only speaking to the two writers/directors but also to the three leading cast-members, Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, Jack McMullen and Jake Short. The series, which is set behind the scenes at a fictional football club, we watch on as these promising youngsters navigate their way around the dressing room, and how they balance being famous with, you know, wiping your arse. We discuss the character with the three young lads, who all impress heavily in the show.

Laconic and moody, a Metallica t-shirt worn like a second skin, fifteen-year-old Daniel hobbles through his pastel-colored, chintzy home in a stretch of British suburbia like a black sheep in a Wes Anderson hallucination. He’s a few days away before his first-ever trip to the States, where his father moved with a new woman, with whom he expects his second child. A summer spent basking in the Florida sun is a far more alluring prospect than frittering it away with his best friend Ky and awkward, lonely mother Sue, but an intercontinental phone call is all it takes to make dreams crumble. As Daniel’s father tells his son that, regretfully, the trip is canceled, Sue is left to take up the pieces. Days of the Bagnold Summer, Simon Bird’s feature debut, is a chronicle of a failed journey, and of the far more intricate, tortuous one mother...

If you were anywhere in or around the United Kingdom during the last stretch of the noughties–or anywhere else with easy access to Channel 4’s streaming platform, for that matter–chances are you witnessed the pandemonium stirred up by a cult TV comedy series, The Inbetweeners. The team behind the enormous British cultural phenomenon The Inbetweeners returns to screens with The Festival after multiple dips in form with sizeable stabs at original content in both cinema and television, with little to no acclaim or success in either medium.
Revisiting the Inbetweeners franchise has been a mixed bag for writer and directors Iain Morris and Damon Beesley. In 2011 they launched a cinematic event with a feature film that stirred an impressive success earning $88,025,781 worldwide. Three years later they turned to the well of predictability, already dry and running on empty with a sequel that ultimately neglected any common sense contextually that angered fans and led...

Here’s a first look image of protagonists Monica Dolan (Eye In The Sky) and Earl Cave (The True History Of The Kelly Gang) in the coming-of-age comedy about a heavy metal-loving 15 year-old (Cave) whose Florida summer holiday is cancelled last minute meaning he must spend six weeks at home instead with the person who annoys him most in the world: his long-suffering, single mum (Dolan). Novelist Lisa Owens adapted from Joff Winterhart’s cult graphic novel of the same name.
Also starring are Rob Brydon (The Trip), Tamsin Greig (Second Best Marigold Hotel), Alice Lowe (Prevenge) and Elliot Speller-Gillot (Uncle). Altitude will be selling the movie at the Afm and will release in the UK next year.

A new trailer has arrived for this summer’s The Inbetweeners-esque comedy The Festival. Starring Joe Thomas as pretty much the same character he plays in the series, he pines over his ex as his friends force him to party at a music festival.
The Inbetweener’s Joe Thomas stars as Nick, recently dumped hence his mates think it’s a good idea to subject him to a few days of mud, being urinated on and getting so hammered he decides to get his nipple pierced.
The Festival is the first comedy feature film release from production company Fudge Park, formed by The Inbetweeners writers and executive producers Iain Morris and Damon Beesley.
Directed by Iain Morris and written by Keith Akushie and Joe Parham (BBC Three’s Siblings); the film also stars Hammed Animashaun (Channel 4’s Flowers, Netflix’s Black Mirror), Claudia O’Doherty (Netflix’s Love,...

One of the creators of The Inbetweeners Damon Beesley is teaming up with actor Joe Thomas for a new Comedy film about a group of teens attending a music festival called The Festival. The film will star Thomas, who played Simon on The Inbetweeners and Martin on the two's current Netflix and BBC collaboration White Gold, and the film is already teasing the likes of Jemaine Clement and Kurt Yaeger, so it should be a blast.
Those who have seen The Inbetweeners already know of the brilliance of this British comedy duo, and those who haven't will have to settle for the slim pickings that are available to watch on streaming services to get an idea. That, or they could watch the equally hilarious White Gold which stars Ed Westwick and I can't recommend enough to anyone who asks! Check out a trailer for that below and be on the...

Even though Netflix has started to cancel its underperforming series in earnest, that doesn’t mean it lacks for programming. In fact, its slate of offerings is fuller than ever, which makes it difficult for viewers to choose when faced with an embarrassment of bingeable riches.
Netflix’s foreign series, however, rarely get promotion amidst all of the other American shows that have been produced. Although IndieWire has previously provided handy lists of foreign-language series a couple of times, including other imports, that is only a hint of all offerings available.

James Van Der Beek takes the role of a lifetime as Diplo, the world-famous DJ (who may or may not have spoiled West Coast viewers on the “Breaking Bad” Season 4 finale back in 2011). As Van Der Beek told IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller, it’s a series that fulfills a career-long dream, in a way. Everyone liked The Inbetweeners, right? Yes, the show had many cringe-worthy, repetitive and outright stupid moments but offered a fair, if heightened take on the burden of adolescence.
Damon Beesley, who co-wrote the series alongside Iain Morris, now branches away from the playground and brings us a slightly darker and sassier story with travelling double-glazing salesman Vincent (Ed Westwick) heading the show. The BBC2 comedy White Gold starts as it means to go on. It’s slick, smart and silly – there is fun to be had here that’s for sure.
It’s Essex, 1983 and here we meet cocksure Vincent, our charismatic and terribly arrogant narrator that gets his claws in from the get go. This obnoxious man is the epitome of a classic salesman; giving us handy tips and breaking the forth wall just to tell us exactly how amazing he is at his job and...

New deals announced with Fox Searchlight and The Inbetweeners creators Fp Films in statement of intent from Film4 boss David Kosse.
Film4 has announced a major increase in its funding, which will rise from $22m to $36m (£15m to £25m) for 2016.
The substantial funding increase will also include two major new partnerships: a co-financing deal with Fox Searchlight for In Bruges director Martin McDonagh’s new film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; and a new two-year partnership with Entertainment Film Distributors (Efd) and Fp Films, the production company set up by The Inbetweeners creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, for four new comedy feature films.
The funding boost and new partnerships demonstrate the scale of Film4’s future ambitions, and represent a major coup for director of Film4 David Kosse as well as a huge vote of confidence from Channel 4 in his vision for the company’s film division.

Ahead of today’s announcement that Film4’s 2016 budget has been increased from $22m to $36m (£15m to £25m), Film4 CEO David Kosse sat down with Screen to discuss what the extra investment will mean to the company.
The significant boost in investment from Film4’s parent company, Channel 4, comes a little over a year into Kosse’s tenure and is a huge vote of confidence in his vision and strategy for Film4’s future.
Can you begin by sharing your pitch to Channel 4 in terms of securing this significant boost in investment for Film4?
It’s really building on what we’ve done in the past - looking at what we’ve done and saying, “Okay, we’re obviously choosing talent well and choosing projects well”.
But in many cases, we’re not making money on [Film4-backed] movies that are making money. Other people are making money. So we’re choosing the projects, we’re developing...

The hugely successful The Inbetweeners 2 will be getting its disc release in December, it's been revealed...
Taking sizeable amounts of cash at the UK box office over the summer was the really well received The Inbetweeners 2. Banking well over £30m at the UK box office, it hasn't quite reached the phenomenal takings of its forerunner, but it's not too far behind. Furthermore, it's second only to The Lego Movie at the UK box office this year, beating every summer blockbuster on its way there.
And more money awaits the film when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray. We've learned when that will be too, as it looks like The Inbetweeners 2 will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on December 1st 2014.

Marvel soared while Adam Sandler floundered. Simon takes a closer look at the winners and losers of 2014's summer blockbuster season...
As another summer blockbuster season comes to an end, here's our annual reflection on what worked, what didn't, and who was left with egg on their face.
It's been a surprisingly strong summer season, in truth. Sure, there've been a few misses here and there, but we've found much to enjoy in many of the season's big releases, both in terms of widescreen spectacle and thought-provoking ideas.
So as the summer of 2014 winds to a close, here's what we took out of it...

Taking its usual place in the 'winners' section of articles like these is Marvel Studios, which opened and closed summer blockbuster movie season this year with considerable style.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier garnered strong reviews, and comfortably outperformed its predecessor at the box office.

Inbetweeners mania never really caught on in America—MTV’s 2012 version was yanked after one season. But the British sitcom has exploded into an enormous big-screen success at the U.K. box-office. The sequel to the hit 2011 film scored more than $21 million over the weekend, crushing Transformers, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, How to Train Your Dragon 2, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy’s openings to claim the United Kingdom’s biggest weekend debut of 2014 and biggest-ever opening day for a live-action comedy.

Lads' mags may have fallen out of fashion but the spirit of Nuts and Loaded lives on in this cheery, intermittently hilarious and unremittingly crude sequel to the 2011 box-office hit. The boys – who are actually now young men – head to Australia ("the sex capital of the world") where Jay (James Buckley) is on a gap year. No pun is too crude for writer-directors Damon Beesley and Iain Morris.

It probably comes as no surprise that The Inbetweeners 2 has set a brand new record for the ‘Opening day for a comedy in the UK’ beating the record set by its predecessor in 2011. The sequel has brought in a whopping in £2.75m in one day.
The second movie sees the four bumbling fools Will, Simon, Jay & Neil (played by Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison) and head to Australia on a gap year and we’re promised the movie is bigger, ruder and funnier than the first. The fact so many if us Brits flocked to the cinema yesterday to see it is a testament to the popularity of the show which started on Channel 4 and ran for 3 series climaxing in the big screen treatment in 2011 with The Inbetweeners Movie.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, it's time to strap on your wellies and plunge into the c***ge-related hilarity. Nothing less than knee-deep is acceptable where The Inbetweeners 2 is concerned. The quartet are back - and despite fears that their antics would wear thinner than Jay's allegedly pencil-shaped phallus - they're still hysterically funny.
A script full of smutty one-liners and imaginatively filthy scenarios ensures that the antics of Will, Jay, Simon and Neil are as hilarious as ever, as they embark on an eventful trip to Australia. Why is it called Down Under? "Because that's where your face spends most of the time," explains the endearingly delusional Jay, who claims to have had...

Though it may be the leading four actors who take all the plaudits, the brains behind the operation are Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, the writers of the hugely popular sitcom, and first movie. The duo now return with the sequel – which they’re also directing.
When sitting down with Morris and Beesley, we asked about the decision to reunite the boys for a sequel, what we can expect of them Down Under – and also whether this may just be the end of The Inbetweeners journey…
The Inbetweeners 2 is out in cinemas now.
