A new episode of the Revisited video series has arrived online this morning… and this time around, we’re looking back at a movie that has a very bad reputation: director Rupert Wainwright’s 2005 remake of the John Carpenter cult classic The Fog (you can watch the remake Here). This video sets out to explain “Why The Fog fails,” and you can hear all about it in the embed above.
Directed by Wainwright from a screenplay written by Cooper Layne, The Fog remake feels like an attempt to put a J-horror-style twist on the ideas from Carpenter’s film. It has the following synopsis: The prosperous town of Antonio Bay, Oregon is born in blood, as the town’s founders get their money by murdering a colony of lepers. But the truth of what they did is concealed from subsequent generations. More than 100 years later, Elizabeth Williams, whose family lives in Antonio Bay,...

Alex Caulfield’s Sins in the Family revolves around Zara (Moniqua Plante), who, like any other, is a middle-aged housewife who divides her hours between tending to her house chores and caring for her husband, Max (Jay Hindle), and daughter, Rose (Natalie Sharp). Like any other teenager, Rose saw her mom as an overprotective person who always wanted to know where she was and who she was with. Zara also had a cool side, as we saw her winning prizes in a fairground target shooting game at the start of the film. However, before we get into the story, there’s one small detail that you may want to know. Rose wasn’t Zara’s biological child, but she adopted her when she was little.
Thus, Rose was obsessed with finding her birth parents and often brought up the subject. However, Zara told her that she just doesn’t have any information about them.

Corey Swanson has problems. He’s almost 30, still lives in his mom’s basement, doesn’t date, and his career amounts to slicing meat in an archaic deli that no one ever comes to – unless they want to rob it. After a chance encounter with a popular former classmate, Corey learns that his high school crush Sheena Halliday will soon be in town for their 10-year reunion. Sheena, now a world-famous athlete, has been dubbed “the Lindsay Lohan of the wrestling world”. It's game over for The CW's new comedies Seed and Backpackers. The smallest network has cancelled and pulled the low-rated comedies after just two airings.

On August 15, The CW launched CW Seed, a digital studio focused on developing original series on the Web, with the goal of establishing projects that can ideally be ported over to the broadcast network if they connect with an audience.
It's a strategy that's worked well for shows like Lisa Kudrow's "Web Therapy" on Showtime and Adult Swim's "Childrens Hospital," and CW Seed has launched with a diverse array of comedies, like the third season of critically-acclaimed "Husbands"; globetrotting "Backpackers" starring "Nikita's" Dillon Casey; "The P.E.T. Squad Files" produced by "Heroes'" Milo Ventimiglia; and animated "Gallery Mallory," which will feature guest voices from CW stars like Misha Collins, Justin Hartley and Kat Graham.
In an attempt to get over a serious case of cold feet, "Backpackers" finds recently engaged Ryan (Noah Reid) and Beth (Meghan Heffern) embarking on separate European adventures leading up to their wedding.

We live in a youth-obsessed culture. That much we know. We worship at the altar of infinite possibility, saying “youth must have its fling” – and we bemoan those lost opportunities to “make our mistakes”. But there’s nothing bracing or invigorating about living through a real folly of youth. One that hurts the ones we care about. Those kinds of mistakes can make people instantly old, no matter what their calendar age. Old Stock explores the consequences of two such follies: one that engulfs its title character at the end of high school, and another committed by an older man in the grip of second child(hood)ishness.
When we first meet Stock Burton (Noah Reid), he is living in a retirement home with his grandfather (Harold, played with old-time Allen Jenkins-ish charm by Danny Wells), who is...

Director/writer: David Morlet. Cast: Marty Adams, Shaun Benson, Meghan Heffern and Adam MacDonald. This reviewer is familiar with French director David Morlet's previous work, Mutants. Mutants was an undead film set in a post-apocalyptic landscape; Mutants was an exciting film, set in a dangerous environment. Morlet's second feature and first English film, Home Sweet Home, is less exciting, however. This second feature is meant as a suspense driven thriller, but there is very little tension here. The film's pacing is obscenely slow and the story is overly simple. The film's budget is also meagre and Morlet's latest outing will only satisfy the most die-hard horror or thriller fans. The film is not really plot driven. And, the story is broken down quite easily. A couple returns to their home after "date night." Someone is waiting for them there. A masked trespasser has sealed any exits and clothed himself in disposable coveralls.

David Morley, the director behind the French thriller Mutants (2009), has a new film on the way entitled Home Sweet Home (not to be confused with the indie film, also on the way, using the same name).
Starring Meghan Heffern, Adam MacDonald and Shaun Benson, Morley's latest effort concerns a thirty-something couple who come home from date night to find themselves imprisoned in their own house with a methodical killer inside.

David Morlet (a.k.a. David Morley), who directed and co-wrote the undead-apocalypse film Mutants, scripted and helmed Home Sweet Home and was also one of the producers, along with Jordan Barker, who directed the 2007 ghost story The Marsh. “What’s really interesting is that this movie was actually born at the Berlin Film Festival at the Berlinale Market,” Barker tells Fango. “We decided that we wanted to make a feature together, and from script development to funding, production and post, this film came together in only about four or five months.”
Screen Media Films gave us the scoop that it has picked up U.S. rights to Home Sweet Home, with a release planned for the second quarter of 2013 (most likely June). Special features for the disc release are still to be finalized, but will likely include a director’s commentary, interviews and a still gallery (keep your eyes...

Fox Searchlight has released the first teaser poster for The F Word. The romantic comedy is the story of two friends — Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe) and Chantry (Zoe Kazan) — who develop romantic feelings for one another. The only problem is that Chantry happens to be married.
Amanda Crew, Rafe Spall, Megan Park, Adam Driver, Meghan Heffern, Jordan Hayes, and Jonathan Cherry join Radcliffe and Kazan in The F Word for supporting roles.
The film is directed by Michael Dowse. The screenplay has been adapted by Elan Mastai (The Samaritan) from the play Cigars and Toothpaste by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi.
Here’s the synopsis for the film
“Wallace and Chantry meet at a party while reading refrigerator magnet poetry and find that they have great chemistry…. as friends. Wallace, who has the appeal of a puppy dog and a very dry wit, falls for Chantry, smart, funny and just a bit funky.

That difficult second feature from Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer director Jon Knautz slips quietly onto home video here in the UK, nearly a year after screening at Glasgow Frightfest. Marking a shift in tone, The Shrine leads us into some extremely familiar territory with a rather matter-of-fact take on occult horror. After a remarkably pedestrian first half, Knautz just about claws it back with a solidly gripping final act that may even chuck you the odd surprise for your efforts. An irritatingly ambitious journalist (Cindy Sampson) investigates a backpacker gone missing in Poland (yep, it's those pesky Eastern Europeans again), with naïve intern (Meghan Heffern) in tow. A narked, soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend (Aaron Ashmore) provides some muscle by tagging along too. Upon arrival in the remote rural village...

Stars: Aaron Ashmore, Cindy Sampson, Meghan Heffern, Trevor Matthews | Written and Directed by Jon Knautz
From the team behind the critical and fan favourite monster movie Jack Brooks Monster Slayer comes The Shrine, which surprisingly is a much more serious offering than its rubber-suited predecessor. Equal parts The Evil Dead and Blood on Satans Claw, the film tells the story of a journalist, her assistant and her boyfriend who journey to Poland in search of a missing backpacker and stumble across ritual killings, bizarre townsfolk and a mysterious fog that hides an even more mysterious statue.
Harkening back to the cinema of the 1980?s, The Shrine takes a lot of it’s inspiration from the original Evil Dead, from the mysterious fog in the forest, to the wrinkly faced demons which inhabit the films climax; there’s even a nod to the “Ash goes crazy” scene in Evil Dead 2! But somehow,...

Edmonton.s Meghan Heffern is a fast rising young star currently working three TV shows with a side helping of film work. She has a unique gift for comedy, as seen in the Showcase series Almost Heroes. She.s clothing store manager Candi who uses her .power. to subjugate her employees, even at minimum wage. She lets loose as a snarky, sassy and mean-spirited, who is not rocket scientist material. Still Heffern gives her something likeable so that we can delve past the surface bossy boots and find a relatable and pretty funny heart. Last summer Heffern starred in the IFC horror thriller The Shrine, as an intern on an investigative research trip to Poland who gets mixed up with...

Every once in a blue moon comes a nicely made film that sets the mood from the get-go. The Shrine succeeds in where many others have failed. From the very first few frames to the end, this movie is a product of visual contrasts and cosmic terror. Here, the production team knew exactly what they’re borrowing from—the film noir stylings of yesteryear—and they toss in enough references of grandiose design to even make H.P. Lovecraft give his nod of approval.
Even before the terror slowly begins, there is finally a film that spends time establishing the main characters. Even when the shots don't require it, what audiences are presented with are beautiful pieces of cinematography with plenty of hidden meaning for those in the know. Even the colours seem to change. Mid-film, the product looked like it went through a desaturation filter. Perhaps that...

Just in time for its premiere this Thursday, October 14th, at 7:30 pm at the Mann 6 Theatres, we've gotten our claws into an eye-popping new one-sheet for Jon Knautz's new film, The Shrine.
The Shrine, is written and directed by Jon (Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer) Knautz and stars Jack Brooks himself, Trevor Matthews, along with Meghan Heffern, Aaron Ashmore, and Cindy Sampson.
After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote village in Poland called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on discovering the truth, they travel to the small village but quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious group set on killing them. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon discover that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.
