Don Kirk(II)
- Camera and Electrical Department
Don "Captain" Kirk worked on just nine movies, having had to leave the
business after contracting the "Meniere's Syndrome" which left him with
dizziness and vertigo attacks at a moment's notice. Not good for a
First Assistant Cameraman, often the only one on the set that knows the
cameras. By 1993 he had over seventeen reasons for leaving the trade,
not the least of which was the opportunity to work on lousy low-budget
movies that died at the box office, the only exceptions Blood Simple
and Rio Diablo. During those ten plus
years, Don Kirk worked on many commercials and short films as a Camera
Assistant, Director of Photography, Lighting Director, Sound Mixer, Art
Director, Gaffer, Grip, Electric, Set Construction, Costume and Prop
Rental services, and as an Extra on films such as "North and South Part
III." Don Kirk became well versed with most 16 and 35mm film cameras
including Panavision, Arri, Mitchell and Moviecam systems, which now
have gone to digital technology with the experience of loading film in
a black changing bag becoming stuff of film history.
