Later this summer, every news outlet in the world will descend on Paris to cover the 2024 Olympic Games.
It’s a crowded media environment, complicated further by the fact that here in the U.S., NBC is the exclusive rights partner, with video and behind-the-scenes access no other outlet can match.
So what can a sports outlet that wants to compete do? For Yahoo Sports, it decided to hire a bevy of gold medalists to serve as its Olympics correspondents.
The sports platform has hired seven-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, who will provide coverage and analysis of track and field events; three-time gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings, who will cover beach volleyball; five-time gold medalist Missy Franklin and silver medalist Katie Hoff, who will provide coverage of swimming events; and gold medalist Shawn Johnson East, who will cover gymnastics events for Yahoo.

Kristen Welker wants to “Meet The Press” with something new.
So the new Sunday-show moderator is introducing a different sort of recurring segment to NBC’s venerable public affairs program. “Meet The Moment” will feature conversations with influentials from outside the usual Beltway haunts, who will still weigh in on issues of importance to voters and the long-running show’s overall audience. Among those who have appeared: Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, who discussed Black maternal health; actor Selma Blair, who has become an advocate for fair disability pay after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis; author and The Atlantic staff writer Tim Alberta, who has scrutinized changes in the Evangelical church; and Iranian activist Masih Alinejad, who has pushed for women’s rights in Iran.
Some of these segments will run again this Sunday. More “Moments” are expected in 2024.

Scarlett Johansson is a proud mom of two. The "Asteroid City" star shares daughter Rose Dorothy with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac and baby Cosmo with husband Colin Jost. In fact, Cosmo was born just months before she started working on "Asteroid City," and she revealed in June that Cosmo was very popular with her costars on set.
"People were excited to see the baby, not me. They're like, 'Oh, it's you. Where's baby?'" she spilled to People in an article published June 15.
"My husband and baby [came to set] because we had just had a little baby," she explained. Cosmo was born in August 2021, and the film went into production that fall. "Some people had partners that came up. Most people were alone, I think. A lot of people had children too, but maybe a little bit older." She added that Cosmo was basically the "set baby."

“Show me the money” was the memorable battle cry in Jerry Maguire, the 1996 movie about a sports agent who must “deliver” for his manic client.
Matt Damon, the negotiator at the center of his and Ben Affleck’s new movie, delivers big time for his client, and so does the film. Air is an angry, trash-talking movie that somehow, in its final minutes, switches into a “feel good” epic.
In Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise survives both a love affair and a crisis of conscience. Air is about neither love nor conscience, but the $90 million movie — Amazon reportedly paid $120 million for the rights and package — carries a daunting bundle of expectations about the future of distribution (its producers include Peter Guber and David Ellison).
Its box office numbers for the opening week were auspicious but inevitably did not fully match those expectations. “There’s too much riding on every new theatrical release,...

This Black History Month, we wanted to learn about the personal histories of women we admire - so we asked changemakers to tell us about a Black woman in their life who has been crucial in shaping who they are today.
In this installment, Allyson Felix - the most decorated American track and field athlete in history - talks about the way Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who is ranked among the all-time greatest Olympians in the heptathlon and the long jump, has inspired her. Felix retired from athletics after the 2022 season, and she's made a name for herself as an entrepreneur and as a fierce advocate for maternal health, an issue that disproportionately affects Black pregnant people.

Serena Williams’ presumed final match captured the world’s attention as numerous public figures took to social media late Friday to honor the game-changing tennis star.
Widely considered to be among the greatest athletes to have ever competed in the sport, Williams was knocked out of the 2022 U.S. Open after losing 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1 in the third round to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
Williams, who turns 41 this month, had previously said she was “evolving” away from playing professional tennis following her storied career that included 23 Grand Slam titles, second only to the 24 earned by Margaret Court.
After losing Friday, Williams was in tears and said it was unlikely she would reconsider her plan to walk away from the game.
She also praised her family members including older sister and fellow tennis superstar Venus Williams,...

Mickey Guyton lent her voice to an empowering tribute to women in sports and the strides they've made - and the ground left to cover - at the 2022 Espy Awards on July 20. During the Los Angeles-hosted award show, numerous women athletes took the stage to address the 50th anniversary of the Title XI legislation, which went into effect in 1972 and prohibits sex-based discrimination in any federally funded educational programs.
Guyton's performance of her 2020 track "What Are You Going to Tell Her?" was preceded by legendary tennis player Billie Jean King, who questioned the audience, "How do you measure 50 years? In the wins? In the number of obstacles you've overcome? The distance still to go?" Title XI "changed the game, but it's just a start," King said before Guyton began singing.
