Exclusive: CBC has put a third season of time-bending anthology drama Plan B into production.

Kotv its returning to produce the season, which will feature a new lead cast of Carolina Bartczak (Painkiller, X-Men: Apocalypse), Arnold Pinnock (The Porter, Combat Hospital) and Ennis Esmer (Children Ruin Everything, Blindspot).

Additional casting includes Arianna Shannon making her screen debut, Jaeden Noel (Orphan Black: Echoes, Invasion), Carolyn Taylor (Baroness von Sketch Show, I Have Nothing) and Grace Lynn Kung (Sort Of, Fallout).

Production is now underway in Montreal, with six episodes planned. The show is an adaptation of the French-language drama series of the same name, which is now in its fourth season for Radio-Canada.

Physically escaping personal trauma by embarking on a simple vaca at a countryside airbnb, Sophie finds commonality with a stranger. Little Alex Horne is slowly convincing the entire world to make comedians do daft things for the Taskmaster, and we very much approve. There are currently seven international Taskmaster series running, while a handful of other attempts at international remakes finished after one season, and the newest iteration, Taskmaster Australia, is due to launch in 2023.

When you watch clips of the international versions, they are generally recognisably Taskmaster, from the red-carpeted stage and the clinical white room in the Taskmaster house to the graphics and Horne Section soundtrack. It’s all so comfortably familiar that – if you watch a version with subtitles – you quickly forget the contestants are speaking a different language altogether.

But there are some key differences, from the show’s format to each different country’s cultural quirks, that give Taskmaster’s international versions their own unique flavour.

Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for the dramedy titled The Guide to the Perfect Family, a Quebecois film from filmmaker Ricardo Trogi attempting to tackle the question: are we in an "overparenting" society? (Yes.) "The kids? Under pressure. The parents? Exhausted. But at least on social media, they're one #happyfamily." The film follows a few families dealing with the difficulty & complexity of raising children in a society of ultra performance, nurtured by parents who, wanting to give the best to their children, but risk smothering them. This stars Louis Morissette, Catherine Chabot, Émilie Bierre, Xavier Lebel, and Isabelle Guérard. I like hearing all the French-Canadian in this and the Quebecois slang. It's a totally different sound to French from France. This looks like an amusing and honest take on the overparenting problem, but I wish it was just a bit more humorous.

Despite the title, writer/director Denys Arcand’s film is actually a French Canadian satiric crime thriller/comedy about a delivery driver with a PhD in philosophy who finds himself in an ethical dilemma when a bag of stolen loot literally falls at his feet. But then again, maybe it is about the fall of the American empire, as income inequality and the fuzzy boundary between international high finance and high crimes are at the core of this social satire.

The title follows those of Arcand’s previous films, The Decline Of The American Empire and Barbarians At The Gate, but while those films focused on the same group of academics, this one starts anew with a new group of characters. At the center is...

Charged with alternating currents of droll wit, sardonic cynicism, and socialist-tinged idealism, writer-director Denys Arcand’s “The Fall of the American Empire” is a richly amusing rumination on the excesses and amorality of capitalism that plays like an ingeniously contrived mashup of film noir melodrama and Ealing Studios comedy. Despite the title, the new film has nothing to do with “The Decline of the American Empire,” Arcand’s classic 1986 roundelay about the lusty lives and endless conversations of eight self-regarding French Canadian intellectuals. But it does share at least a few thematic threads with that movie’s Oscar-winning sequel, “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003), which suggested that, in times of crisis, even a die-hard socialist might appreciate the value of having a great deal of money at his disposal.

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up U.S. rights to Oscar winner Denys Arcand’s upcoming The Fall of the American Empire. This is a follow-up of sorts to the Canadian helmer’s 1986 Oscar nominee The Decline Of The American Empire. Spc has also acquired all rights in Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.

The film explores the predominance of capitalism in a society where all other values seem to have crumbled. It centers on Pierre-Paul, a 36-year-old intellectual with a PhD in philosophy who is forced to work as a deliveryman to earn a decent living. One day, while delivering a parcel, he gets caught in a hold-up gone terribly wrong. With two dead and millions in money bags laying on the ground, Pierre-Paul is confronted with a dilemma: leave empty-handed, or take the money and run?

Seville International will handle international sales on Denys Arcand’s (The Barbarian Invasions) upcoming comedy The Fall Of The American Empire, a follow of sorts to his 1986 Oscar-nominee The Decline Of The American Empire.

The French-language film, which is currently in post-production, was written and directed by Arcand and produced by regular collaborator Denise Robert. In 2004, the duo teamed on The Barbarian Invasions which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and was nommed for Best Original Screenplay.

Toronto – On August 8th, in the Imperial Room of The Fairmont Royal York Hotel, the 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival held its Canadian Press Conference. Inside, guests were treated to an assortment of trademark Canadiana, including free beer, cakes, polite conversations and poutine.

Just as you thought the conference couldn’t get more Canadian, Tiff 2012 announced the next wave of hometown content to appear at this year’s festival.

“Through comedy, thrills, drama and suspense, films in the lineup present stories of youth and violence, coming of age, the environment, dysfunctional families, sex and celebrity,” said Steve Gravestock, Senior Programmer of the festival.

“From intimate, affecting stories with big impact to films with global scope, the Canadian films in this year’s Festival will move audiences”.

In the last major update for the Toronto International Film Festival 2012 slate, they’ve announced their Canadian features. The line-up includes Sarah Polley’s upcoming documentary Stories We Tell, coming off her Take This Waltz this summer (which also premiered at Tiff). The other major films include two we’ve seen at Cannes,one being Brandon Cronenberg‘s Antiviral, which premiered alongside his father’s Cosmopolis. We disliked it (full review), saying it came off as an “an amateurish, high-budget student film.” The other major title is Xavier Dolan‘s Laurence Anyways, which we loved (full review), calling it a major step forward for the filmmaker. Check out the rest of the titles below, which I’m sure will include many discoveries.

V, a French Canadian TV network, will renew the half-hour dramatic comedy Prozac, La Maladie Du Bonheur for a second season.

The first season's finale left us at a moment when Philippe Racine (Patrice Robitaille), a fallen columnist of a prestigious newspaper, was making some progress in his therapy. After all, he wanted to commit a suicide after he knowingly plagiarized an article of a French newspaper.

Also returning for the second season will be François Létourneau, Isabelle Blais, Louis Morissette, Gilles Renaud, France Castel, Louise Portal, Jean-Pierre Bergeron, Martin Laroche, Sophie Cadieux and Sandrine Bisson.

For the moment, V hasn't announced any premiere date for Prozac, which was written by Sophia Borovchyk and Karina Goma. However, the show will probably return next fall.

Novem, a production company owned by TV host Véronique Cloutier, announced the production of many feature films. In fact, the first one is called Cabotins. It will be in Quebec's theatres on July 23, 2010.

The film was directed by Alain Desrochers, scripted by Ian Lauzon and produced with a budget of $4,800,000.

It tells the story of Marcel (Rémy Girard), a former actor and producer of variety shows. He now lives in the countryside. Moreover, his wife left him and he's financially down on his luck.
