My Hero Academia voice actor Elizabeth Maxwell expressed her disappointment over the handling of her character, Midnight’s, final scene in the anime.
Speaking to ComicBook during DragonCon, Maxwell shared her thoughts on the portrayal of Midnight’s death.
While expressing her respect for the show’s creators, Maxwell revealed disappointment that Midnight’s final stand wasn’t depicted in detail. She pointed out the action-packed fight scenes involving other heroes earlier in the series and contrasted it with Midnight’s off-screen demise.
“With all due respect to the creators, who I respect to the moon and back, I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see Midnight’s last stand. An episode or two ago, we saw these beautiful fight scenes with pro-heroes… It was a little disappointing to me that her fight and death were glossed over.”

"Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion" is one of the most anime TV programs out there. It takes about three series-sustaining premises and fuses them into one. In an alternate world where Britain crushed the American Revolution but then fell to Napoleon, the Holy Britannian Empire rules from the North American continent.
Exiled Britannian prince Lelouch lives in the conquered Japan ("Area 11"), waiting for the day when he can take revenge on his father Emperor Charles for the death of his mother, Lady Marianne. He gets his chance when he meets a green-haired witch named Cc, who gives him the "power of a king" — Geass. If Lelouch stares someone in the eye, he can issue one single command that they must obey. He uses his new power to become masked revolutionary "Zero," naming his followers the Black Knights. At the same time, he must also keep a secret identity from his teenage peers,...

Anime fans are becoming increasingly savvy when it comes to the voice actors that are responsible for their favorite characters. It’s so touching to witness this symbiotic relationship play out where fans will follow voice actors to new series just as much as they’ll check out a new series because of its story or genre. Elizabeth Maxwell is a seasoned voice actor who can be heard in anime like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia as well as video games that include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Persona.
Elizabeth rises to the occasion with all of her characters, some of which are anime’s most celebrated female fighters. Elizabeth Maxwell opened up to Den of Geek at 2023’s Anime Milwaukee on the unusual circumstances behind getting cast as Attack on Titan’s Ymir, why Dragon Ball needs more ass-kicking Saiyan like Caulifla, and...

Fire Emblem fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the recently-released Fire Emblem Engage. Not only is it the latest entry into the famous strategy franchise, but it’s really a return to form for Fire Emblem after the series experimented with a few different ideas. It also features a massive roster of characters voiced by some pretty notable actors.
Seriously, Engage’s voice cast is impressive. It’s one thing to boast a roster of named and notable characters quite so large, and it’s quite another to give most of those characters their own name and voice. While you may only recognize the names of a few Fire Emblem voice actors on paper, you’ll almost certainly recognize many of them the moment you hear them in-game.
So whether you can’t quite place why that name is so familiar, or you just want a little...

"He said if I wanted back in to come see you..." Neon has released the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Little Woods, the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming filmmaker Nia DaCosta. This film originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, where it won the Nora Ephron Award. Described as an "emotionally-charged small-town modern Western about two women in rural America," Little Woods stars Tessa Thompson and Lily James as sisters struggling to survive in their small town. "Their sister bond, beautifully exemplified by the authentic and lived-in relationship, is what keeps them connected but can also tie them down." The indie cast also includes Luke Kirby, James Badge Dale, Lance Reddick, Elizabeth Maxwell, and Luci Christian. The two lead performances in this look enthralling and fierce. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Nia DaCosta's Little Woods, direct from Neon's YouTube: Ollie (Tessa Thompson...

The 75th Venice International Film Festival has finally announced the line-up in a press conference in Rome, hosted by the President of the Biennale di Venezia Paolo Baratta and by the Director of the Cinema department Alberto Barbera.
The Venice International Film Festival has been welcoming in the past many Asian movies especially under the previous Director Marco Muller (2004-2011), a dedicated advocate and promoter of Asian Cinema, but this year the Asian presence is particularly poor. A bit surprising after the success in Cannes of Palme d’Or director Hirokazu Kore’eda with “Shoplifters” and Lee Chang-dong with “Burning”.
Only one film – Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto’s new movie “Zan” – is in the Official Competition and few more “usual suspects” are scattered in the other sections. Chinese director Tsai Ming-Liang – a regular of the festival – is in the Out of Competition Section with his “Ni De Lian“, where other...

The best fan-made web-series, Star Trek Continues, returns with a new episode. Like the original Star Trek show it’s based on, it doesn’t shy away from controversial issues. Does the latest episode “What Ships Are For” maintain the series’ quality?
“What Ships Are For” is the ninth of a planned 11 episodes of this excellent show, and it’s too bad it will be coming to an end soon because it’s far and away the finest fan-made web show in production. What makes it so good is its fidelity to the classic 1966-1969 Star Trek TV series, which worked as a metaphor for socio-cultural issues of the day. (Something missing from the recent Jj Abrams films). Star Trek Continues also dives into a hot-button issue by tacking the subject of refugees.
In this episode, the crew of the Enterprise answer an Sos and find a society that is literally color blind,...
