Writer/director Ari Gold’s criminally underrated 2008 comedy “Adventures of Power” was easily one of the best indie comedies I had the pleasure of seeing during the year that was 2010. It’s quirky, strange, endearing, and, simply put, utterly fantastic. The film is littered with surprising cameos — Michael McKean, Jane Lynch, and Chinese action vet Chi Ling Chiu all make brief but memorable appearances — and boasts one hell of a soundtrack. In case you were wondering, the story chronicles the misadventures of a young man named Power (Ari Gold) as he embarks on an epic journey to an air drumming competition in New York City. However, in order to snag the first place spot, he’ll have to go toe-to-toe with an arrogant country music singer (Adrian Grenier) who is eager to crawl out from under his father’s judgmental thumb.
