The period piece romantic drama genre was completely revitalized by the Netflix original series "Bridgerton." Adapting Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name, "Bridgerton" mixes high society sophistication with steamy romance featuring its growing ensemble of memorable characters. And as fans watch Netflix's expansive universe of "Bridgerton" shows, there are plenty of similar historical dramas to help them tide over the wait. These range from shows accurately exploring British history to series taking advantage of the archetypal backdrop from more stylized stories, like "Bridgerton" itself.
Each of these shows is thematically similar to "Bridgerton," beyond the trappings of historical British aristocracy in their own way. Some capture the drama of living among the English bourgeois while others focus on the bodice-ripping love stories that make "Bridgerton" so enticing. Whether you're in it for the torrid affairs or the historical trappings, there is a period piece drama for everyone.

Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes television series titled “Young Sherlock” has found its Mycroft Holmes. Max Irons will play the role of the elder Holmes brother in the Amazon Prime Video show. Mycroft is Sherlock’s sibling who has already established the Diogenes Club in London. Little is known about Irons’ portrayal of the character so far, but it suggests Mycroft will play an important part in the story.
The series will follow the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes during his university years at Oxford. Hero Fiennes Tiffin was previously cast as the young Sherlock Holmes. Now 19 years old, he becomes embroiled in a murder mystery that threatens his freedom. Uncovering a vast conspiracy in the process, Sherlock begins to hone the observational skills that made him famous.
Set against the backdrop of 19th century Oxford, “Young Sherlock” draws inspiration from a series of novels about the character’s early life.

Guy Ritchie's Young Sherlock welcomes another member to the Holmes family, as the director's upcoming Prime Video series casts the future detective's brother Mycroft. Set during Sherlock Holmes' late teen years as he studied at Oxford University, the series sees Arthur Conan Doyle's detective dragged into a murder case that will uncover a vast conspiracy. Ritchie's return to the classic literature character will not be connected to his Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law-led movie duology, but instead adapt the Young Sherlock novel series written by Andrew Lane.
As filming continues, Deadline reports that the series has cast a pivotal player for the series. Max Irons will take on the role of Mycroft, the elder son of the Holmes family. The identity of the Big Bad Wolf is revealed to be Valerie's father, who has a motive behind the killings. The film's deeper meanings explore loss of control, coming of age, evil, mistrust, and themes of sexuality and witchcraft.
Red Riding Hood adds teen drama elements to the classical horror myth, with a twist ending regarding who is the wolf in Red Riding Hood. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Red Riding Hood stars Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, and Max Irons as three young adults living in a village called Daggerhorn. Saoirse Ronan movies range the gamut from blockbusters to romantic comedies to historical epics. The American-born Irish actress made her acting debut in The Clinic, an Irish medical drama and her first film role was in I Could Never Be Your Woman, a romantic comedy directed by Amy Heckerling that was filmed in 2005 but not released until 2007. Ronan's career breakthrough came in 2007 with Joe Wright's romantic period drama Atonement, an adaptation of the 2001 novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. Her role as aspiring writer Briony Tallis brought her critical acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
This made Ronan, who was 13 at the time, not only a first-time Oscar nominee but also one of the youngest actresses nominated in that category for her role in the Joe Wright movie. Saoirse Ronan has enjoyed a long and fruitful career since then, working with noted directors...

The “V.C. Verse” has found its official home at A+E Networks. The Lifetime parent company has acquired the rights and licenses to “Flowers in the Attic” author V.C. Andrews’ entire library collection, including all new releases.
As part of the deal that gives A+E Networks exclusive access to more than 138 Andrews books, Lifetime — which has found much success with its “Flowers in the Attic” and “Casteel” TV movies — has put into development an adaptation of Andrews’ “Culter” series of books, following the twisted tale of Dawn Longchamp, whose entire world crumbles after the sudden death of her mother.
The next project to make it to the screen in the “V.C. Verse” will be the previously announced prequel limited series “Flowers in the Attic: The Origin,” which stars Jemima Rooper and Max Irons as Olivia Winfield Foxworth and Malcolm Foxworth along with Kelsey Grammer, Harry Hamlin, Paul Wesley and Kate Mulgrew.
