Steve McNair was loved by many in Nashville. A star quarterback who led big plays on the field, he became renowned for his arm strength, poise under pressure, and deep pride in his Tennessee Titans team. Away from sports, he remained approachable, down to earth. And yet on one summer day in 2009, McNair’s life was cut short in shocking tragedy, leading to a mystery that still holds grip.
The Netflix documentary “Untold: The Murder of Air McNair” seeks answers to this sad puzzle. Through interviews and archival footage, we learn of McNair’s rise from college record-setter at Alcorn State to NFL great guiding the then-Houston Oilers, later Titans franchise’s exciting run to the Super Bowl in 1999 against the legendary “Greatest Show on Turf.” We also see police puzzling over McNair’s death, found shot in a condo alongside his girlfriend. Who was responsible, and why?

Netflix’s fantastic sports documentary series, Untold, is back once again with four stories covered over four weeks, with the first installment being on the mysterious death of ex-NFL quarterback Steve McNair. In a career as a celebrated quarterback in the top professional football league for thirteen years, Steve McNair earned the nickname “Air McNair” for his exceptional arm strength and throwing speed. But it was an absolute shock for the residents of Nashville and fans of the sport when McNair was found dead in a rented condominium in 2009. Although the police concluded their investigation and closed the case within a few days of the incident, The Murder of Air McNair presents a contradicting theory, which suggests that the authorities did not catch the main perpetrator.

The crew aboard the ballistic submarine on "Last Resort" surfaced during Monday Night Football to debate just who deserves the title of NFL's best quarterback.
The hilarious video opens with Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman sparring -- in character as the renegade Captain Marcus Chaplin and his Xo Sam Kendal, over which Manning is superior.
"He did it twice, sir," says Sam. "Basically, that's doing the impossible...two times."
"Eli? Are you crazy?" retorts Chaplin. "Peyton's a one-man franchise. Four MVPs and a Super Bowl ring."
"Three and a half MVPs, sir," corrects Sam. "He shared 2003 with Steve McNair!"
Chaplin grabs the intercom to solicit the opinions of the rest of the crew, who respond with the decisive, rapid-fire answers you'd expect from Navy sailors with nuclear weapons aboard their sub.
Even defense contractor Kylie (Autumn Reeser) weighs in from Washington, D.C.

We had been told to expect the deaths of the famous to come in threes, not in the dozens. But all through the summer of 2009 came a ceaseless and somber drumbeat, as idols of all walks of life passed away. From Walter Cronkite to Sen. Ted Kennedy, the nonstop loss of luminaries continued almost as if a seasonal occurrence . as much a part of summer as hot dogs and humidity. If a filmmaker were trying to capture the summer of 2009, Michael Jackson news would be playing in the background. Many thought coverage of Jackson's death was too much; a Pew Research Center poll released in July found that 64 percent of those surveyed thought the media blitz was overdone (though none could top MTV Japan, which designated an entire week of mourning for Jackson). But news outlets went heavy on coverage for the many others who passed. Collectively, it made the constant commemorating hard to escape,...

First an acquaintance, Steve McNair (July 4th), then a dear friend, Arturo Gatti (July 11th) and now my boy, Vernon Forrest (July 25th) are all gone... three senseless murders in 3 miserable weeks. To say that Vernon is an intelligent, generous and loyal person is a disservice. He is all of that and so very, much more. Vernon is not the dumb, gun slinging, self-absorbed professional athlete that some people will quickly dismiss him as. College educated, founder of Destiny's Child group home that shelters and serves mentally challenged people and a 5-time world champion boxer are just a few of the accomplishments that make him such a special human being. (I apologize but I cannot bring myself to speak of Vernon in the past tense). I do not have words to adequately honor my friend; nor can I describe...

Thank you to Mark Buehrle. Thank you to DeWayne Wise. Thank you to the Chicago White Sox for rescuing all of us from the oozing swamp that dominates sports media coverage during the late summer. The months of July and August mark the season of scandal. It's the time when websites, sports radio stations, and certain ubiquitous 24 hour sports networks strain to fill 1,440 minutes a day by endlessly excavating stories that make a viewer wish for a scalding hot shower and a Brillo pad. The games themselves become little more than background noise. The last month says it all: this is the season when the serious (the murder of Steve McNair), the silly (did Lebron smoke weed in high school?) and the insufferable (is Brett Favre coming back? Do I have to care?) dominate beyond all proportion to their...

McNair's Estate In Turmoil
The family of former American footballer Steve McNair is facing a battle over his estate - because the murdered sports star did not leave a will.
The married former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens quarterback, 36, was discovered on 4 July in a downtown Nashville condominium with shots to his head and chest. The body of his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, was found nearby, with just one gunshot.
Tennessee police announced McNair was killed by Kazemi - who they believe fired a semi-automatic weapon, recovered from beside her own body, before turning the gun on herself.
His family was left devastated by the tragedy, and his widow Mechelle has been appointed administrator of his estate in a bid to sort out his affairs.
She named her two sons, Tyler and Trenton, as heirs - but failed to mention McNair's two sons from a prior relationship, Steven McNair Jr. and Steven O'Brian Koran McNair, as heirs.
According to Tennessee law, Mechelle will get a third of the estate and the remaining two-thirds will be split evenly among the named heirs - meaning two of McNair's sons will receive none of their father's assets.

Life, despite its beauty, can be devastatingly cruel. First the world lost my acquaintance Steve McNair and now I've lost my dear friend Arturo. I know that no one is supposed to be here forever; we all knew that Arturo had been through far too many wars to live until 100 but I certainly never expected this. Arturo was not complicated but he was definitely complex. What you saw is what you got. He had no pretense. There were just so many facets to him; so many layers. He was somewhere between sinner and saint. When he was good, which fortunately was the vast majority of the time; he could be generous to a fault but when he wanted to be bad...kook out. McNair's Death Ruled A Homicide
American football star Steve McNair's death has been ruled a homicide by Tennessee police.
The body of the former Tennessee Titans quarterback, 36, was found with two gunshot wounds to the head and chest on Saturday afternoon in a downtown Nashville condominium.
Police reports indicate a semi-automatic pistol was found under the body of the married father-of-four's mistress of six months - 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi - who was shot once in the head.
Kazemi's death has yet to be classified, according to Nashville Metropolitan Police Department officials.
McNair was a seasoned celebrated athlete, who in 2003 split the Mvp (Most Valuable Player) award with fellow football star Peyton Manning. A public memorial to the sports star will be held in Whites Creek, Tennessee on Thursday.
Reports suggest the sports star's wife knew nothing of his romance with Kazemi at the time of his death.
