- Marcel Dekanovsky was born on November 2, 1948 in Prague, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. He is a director and writer, known for Genesis and Catastrophe (1974), Noc Moreny (1974) and Svetlá nad prístavom (1986).
- His work has been recognized by numerous domestic awards, including Most Successful Program of the Year, Prize for Direction, Viewer's Prize and others. His film "Pravom lasky" ("By the Right of Love"), the story of a Gypsy girl during the war, was chosen to represent Czechoslovakia at international festivals. The film drama "Jasanica" received the Special Jury Prize in Edmonton, Canada. In 1990 he was presented the Grand Prix Circom in Bled, Slovenia for the documentary "50 dní po..." ("50 Days After...") on the Romani question.
