UFC fighters Keith Jardine and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone are teaming on a short film that will also mark Jardine’s directorial debut.
The short is titled “El Paso 11:55.” Brendan Fehr stars in the film along with Jardine, Cerrone, and Tait Fletcher. In addition to directing and starring, Jardine also serves as writer. It is set to screen at the LA Shorts International Film Festival on July 26 as part of Program 28.
“I’m humbled by all the heat that’s been surrounding this short,” Jardine said. “Being selected by this prestigious festival is a great affirmation for all the hard work I’ve put in transitioning from professional fighter to actor, and now writer/director. Especially now, as we are preparing to turn ‘El Paso’ into a full-length feature.”
In the film, a man is tasked with picking up a dangerous package for the mob, attracting the attention of every hitman in Albuquerque.

Exclusive: Netflix has another feature hit on its hands in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead which is on its way to becoming one of the streamer’s top 10 most watched movies, bound to notch 72M viewing households in its first four weeks.
Army of the Dead, which repped the streamer’s widest theatrical release in 600 theaters prior to its drop on the service last Friday, May 21, ties with George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky as the 9th most watched feature on Netflix. The zombie ensemble movie was No. 1 overall in 70+ countries and the top film in 90+ countries.
One has to give credit to Netflix: At a time when streamers including Disney+, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO Max are shielding their viewership figures, the Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos led entertainment company, and Scott Stuber led film studio, is actually disclosing results on the success of its movies and TV series.

Some huge news broke in the world of mixed martial arts last week: New York, long the last major hold-out against Mma, had finally legalized the sport. Just how does that relate to Cm Punk? Well, he may be looking to feature as one of the first fighters to legally have a bout in the state.
The legalization move comes after years of legal squabbling and posturing in the State Assembly, and the actions, mainly, of one man, Sheldon Silver, Speaker of the Assembly and now a convicted felon. Silver was vehemently against legalizing Mma due in part to lobbying by the Culinary Union in Las Vegas, who are at odds with the Ufc’s ownership group, Zuffa, over their hotel operations in Vegas, which exclude the union.
Silver continually blocked any Mma legalization efforts in New York up until his arrest in early 2015 on Federal Corruption charges...

The Ufc seems to have taken a page out of Bellator Mma’s playbook with these “big announcements” during live events. They did it with Cm Punk, and now, the big news of Ufc Fight Night 58 is the return of Mma superstar and former Pride and Ufc champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Jackson was a Pride legend who won Ufc gold and unified the Ufc and Pride belts when he beat Dan Henderson (who held Pride gold) back in 2007. However, he lost his belt to Forrest Griffin, and though he would work his way back to a title shot against Jon Jones in 2011, like so many others he would lose, triggering a three fight losing streak, the worst stretch of his career.

The rise of T.J Dillashaw had not been expected by many pundits in 2014. He was considered as one of the better bantamweights in a lackadaisical division. In a popular Team Alpha Male camp, he was one of the lesser publicized fighters. Now six months later, he’s the only champion in the camp and headlining another pay-per-view.
It was his performance against Renan Barao at Ufc 173 that will certainly be the most impressive performance of the year. He outclassed Barao in dominant fashion in every facet of the fight. Now that he’s gotten the top, here comes the greater challenge. The ability to stay on top as champion is far more difficult. Jon Jones, Chuck Liddell, Frank Mir, and Forrest Griffin discussed above how much pressure goes into behind holding the belt.
Despite the pressure, Dillashaw is one of the most well-rounded fighters on the current roster.

Although it may not pull in the ratings like it used to, The Ultimate Fighter still serves as a relatively important endeavor for the Ufc. While it hasn’t produced a fighter the caliber of Forrest Griffin or Rashad Evans in a long time, the reality series has introduced people like John Dodson and Kelvin Gastelum to a wider audience. Now, Electronic Arts has revealed that EA Sports Ufc will allow players to run through the Tuf Tournament to determine whether they’re championship material, or just another Kimbo Slice.
Taking the place of the stale career mode present in the Ufc Undisputed series, this game’s version of The Ultimate Fighter will allow customized characters to receive training from Ufc stars that can be used to boost stats and unlock unique attacks, such as Anthony Pettis’ “Showtime” kick. Successfully making your way through the show is a fast track to championship contender status.

The Ufc falls under the category of “sports,” but since its television breakout a decade ago, the spectacle of the events has become great TV. Despite the dozens of crossover stars and ascendent champions the Ultimate Fighting Championship has produced, it’s entirely possible that the most recognizable face of the Ufc is that of announcer Bruce Buffer. With his authoritative bellow intoning his signature catchphrase “It’s Time!” Buffer has turned the simple act of introducing fighters into top-shelf television. This Saturday Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen square off for a second time in an eagerly anticipated rematch. The build-up has been intense and the stare down at this week’s press conference was heated to say the least. There are many that feel Sonnen provides the perfect foil to Silva’s greatness. They are wrong.
Here’s five reasons why…
1. His Skillset
Anderson Silva has more tools in his locker than any other fighter. He can end a fight at any time from anywhere. If the action is standing then he has a wealth of strikes available to him to finish the fight whether it be the front kick that dispatched Vitor Belfort, the elbow which left Tony Fryklund a crumpled heap on the floor or the jab (that’s right a jab) which stopped Forrest Griffin. His arsenal and array of striking is truly terrifying and we have...

The Ufc's Ultimate Fighter (Tuf) reality TV series returned to our screens last Friday night, but arrived with a twist -- as well as the fastest knockout in its history, at just eight seconds. While the show carried the same format and dangled the same prize at the end of it all, the action was, for the first time, live and pretty much uninterrupted and the season will, in time, be far more interactive than ever before, offering fight fans the opportunity to participate and dictate the fates of those inside the house.
A runaway success since its inception in 2005, this latest tweaking should ensure it remains as such, following the odd hit-and-miss season of late. “Sugar” Rashad Evans (16-1-1) headlines the Ufc on Fox event this weekend, January 28, 2012. His opponent is the new Mma prototype of young, hyper-athletic, next generation fighter, Phil Davis (9-0), a fighter cut from the same cloth as current champion Jon Jones.

Most people will, however, respond to hearing it referred to as Ufc (the most popular brand, a bit like referring to your generic brand vacuum cleaner as a Hoover or your generic brand fake-torch sex-toy as a Fleshlight) or cage fighting. But then they'll usually tell you that it's terrible and it should be banned. You don't really watch that, do you?
Such is the stigma attached to Mma. If you're reading this site, you can probably relate to this. Ever get told by people with no idea that comics are for kids or that if you like watching Star Trek then...

Last time Quinton "Rampage" Jackson lost a fight in the Octagon (a July 2008 war with Forrest Griffin) all hell broke loose. Fueled by energy drinks, a lack of sleep, and God knows what else, Rampage led police on a high speed chase through the streets and even onto the sidewalks of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, California. After a three round shellacking at the hands of Rashad Evans, I hope someone has Rampage's keys.
The two Ultimate Fighter coaches feuded for almost an entire calendar year, including several tense face-to-face confrontations that seemed on the brink of becoming physical. After all the banter and promises of epic levels of violence, the actual fight was a strategic and strangely clinical affair. Evans used his speed and superior athleticism to avoid Jackson's power shots and take the former champion to the mat at will.

The eighth episode of The Ultimate Fighter 11 is all business and it has to be as there are two fights for the price of one.
Team Punishment fighters, Kycaey Uscola and Kris McCray, face off in the first Tuf "wildcard" fight. The concept of the wildcard is to give two fighters who lost close or competitive bouts a second chance in the competition. The episode barely stops long enough to mention the fact that Kyacey's son was born. A few seconds of tears of joy, a call with the mom and it's on to the mood music of pounding drums to set up the fight with Kris McCray.
Tito Ortiz decideds to take a backseat to the fight sayng, "I will be on the bleacehrs and I won't say anything. I'm going to let these guys fight it out as men". Oh, the testosterone is palpable!

Redemption, thy name is Shogun
The main event at Ufc 113 featured a highly anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
While many believed that Shogun won the first meeting, Machida was still the odds-on favorite as most observers thought the Karateka's style was still too difficult to solve for Rua a second time.
But on Saturday night, Shogun proved that he had not only learned how to solve the “Machida Rubik’s Cube” but how to do it like a whiz kid. Rua pressured and assaulted Lyoto building on his previous use of leg kicks with an an overhand attack where Rua commented that he noticed a weak spot in Machida’s armor. After three minutes, Shogun landed the right hand dropping Machida and Rua finished “The Dragon” off on the ground.
Thus the much heralded “Machida Era” (this writer was definitely a member of that course) ends,...

Aldo vs. Faber had everything an Mma fan could ask for, from quick finishes to shocking upsets to dominant title defenses to controversial decisions and one absolute War that many are already calling the "Fight of the Year."
In the main event Jose Aldo proved he's worth the $44.95 as he absolutely Rick Roll'd the "California Kid" Urijah Faber.
Aldo used his leg kicks as a battle axe cleaving at Urijah's thigh for five rounds. Faber proved powerless to stop the twenty-five minute amputation on his left leg as the only defense he could muster was to constantly switch stances. It was to no avail as Aldo's kicks completely neutralized Urijah's mobility, power and technique, turning the former champion into a zero-dimensional statue rather than the dynamic fighter Mma fans have come to expect.
In the third round, Urijah began to pirouette (that means twirl for those not familiar with ballet...

I am admittedly predisposed to moaning with remorse whenever a new film sponsored by a fighting organization makes its way to JustPressPlay's doorstep. Whether it's on DVD or Blu-ray rarely ever makes a difference, as they're often little more than circle jerks made to capitalize on the built-in audience of fighting fans who will consume anything as long as the scenes of controlled violence are brutal and offer up a few “did you see that?!” moments. For that reason, I rue these films. Unrivaled makes me reconsider that notion or, at the very least, amend it. This film, presented quite well in high-definition, spends as much time building on plot and character as it does in the ring with fists flying.
Ringo Duran (Hector Echavarria) has become known as a perennial loser, a fighter far past his prime. However, it's an undeserved title as the film's opening fight shows that...

Now that the 2010 Winter Olympics are over and "American Idol" has decided to underwhelm the world (at least so far), we can look forward to the next great televised competition. Yes, baseball is coming back, March Madness is just around the corner and the NBA playoffs are dangerously close, but the real cutthroat action will be on the new season of "Dancing With the Stars."
The full lineup of celebrities who will be competing will be announced tonight (during ABC's broadcast of the final episode of "The Bachelor"), but there are already a handful of names being whispered about on the Internet. Perhaps the biggest name mentioned so far is reality TV star and tabloid staple Kate Gosselin. Other rumored named include Pamela Anderson, recent gold medal winner Evan Lysacek, former "Full House" star John Stamos, former Britney Spears spouse Kevin Federline and Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover star Brooklyn Decker.

6:56 Pm Pst – And that concludes it. Again, can’t express how happy I am that Uncharted 2 kicked so much ass. Some big announcements including Halo Reach, Medal of Honor, and Arkham Asylum 2. Aside from Best Voice Actor, you can’t complain much about the winners. Overall, probably the best year in terms of that for the show. It was fun, look forward to next year. In the meantime, here’s the full list of winners. Thank ya, and good night:

Last week, we checked in on Hayley Williams while she enjoys her down time before Paramore heads to Europe to rock their way through the continent as they continue their tour for Brand New Eyes. In a series of tweets, she plugged video game "Left 4 Dead 2," the spooky sci-fi flick "The Fourth Kind" and the holiday stage production "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," among other cultural things that she indulged in during her period of rest.
Over the weekend, she jumped into another series entertainment treats that she weighed in on via her increasingly excellent Twitter. On Saturday night (November 21), her evening was taken up by Ufc 106, which saw Tito Ortiz make his return to the Octagon to take on former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. "Ufc 106. I must say Forrest Griffin almost won me over with his walk out music," she tweeted (Griffin, as good-natured a fighter as there is in Ufc,...

Many Ufc fans are looking forward to the heavyweight title main event between current Ufc heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, who is currently undefeated and holds a notable victory over Gabriel Gonzaga. But it looks like fans will have to wait a little bit longer since the fight has been postponed for early next year.
Ufc has initially announced that Lesnar and Carwin will be featured on Ufc 106, which is scheduled to commence on November 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. As an alternative, the light heavyweight rematch between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin has become the new main event for Ufc 106.

Like Paramore's Hayley Williams, we're big Ufc fans around the Newsroom, so it has come as a great shock and disappointment to everybody at MTV News that former Ufc champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has decided to retire from fighting. After 37 career fights, Jackson has decided to focus on other opportunities, which includes his role as B.A. Baracus — originally made famous by Mr. T — in the upcoming "A-Team" movie. He has chosen to step away from the Ufc at a rather inopportune time, as he is currently one of the coaches (along with rival Rashad Evans) on the just-started season of "The Ultimate Fighter." Not surprisingly, he has drawn the ire of Evans and Ufc President Dana White.
The fight world will miss Rampage, as he is one of the best promos in the business and has been involved in some of the most fun, entertaining fights in the history...
